Thank you Arlo and Family for this most Wonderful song of Pete’s! Thanks to Clearwater for all you’re doing for so many Communities in the Art’s! Bravo and thanks to all in 2025!
Just seeing this for the first time, although I've loved Sailing Down My Golden River for a long time now. I hope this performance helped raise money for the Clearwater crew. I met Pete on the Clearwater when they came to my home town many years ago on Long Island Sound, and it's one of the great experiences of my life.
It's such a pleasure watching his kids carry on this amazing tradition. He's basically a one family orchestra...=) I won't live long enough to see what the next generation does, and I'm kinda chuffed about that.
Thank you for everything, Arlo! You have meant more to me than you can ever know ... for... oh... 40 years or so! God Bless you and yours! Stay safe and healthy, buddy!
Thank you, Arlo and Sarah, Abe, Terry. Just the best, to see you all play while we stay hunkered down at home/pandemic. Arlo, the concert in Ohio, outdoors in a wooded parkland; a huge rainstorm came. You asked, "Isn't there someplace indoors we can get to?" Within an hour a school auditorium was unlocked, mics and speaker set up and a piano in there to boot. We, the audience, rushed down the 1/2 mile to the indoor place...and there you were walking right in, saying "Hey" and just a singing like nothing had ever happened.
Thank you for everything for the past ... gulp... 50 years or so! I will tell you a quick story -- When I was in the Navy ... sometimes I had to stand very boring watchstations that were 4 hours long... some in the middle of the night... So basically, to stay awake, I would recite Alice's Restaurant ... but the way I did it was ... every time I made a mistake... I had to start over! Well... that would usually take up the entire 4 hours... big smile! I just wanted to share that story with you. So glad to see you alive and well! Thank you for just being you!
I love it.. Thanks for the story, stunning you could keep going back and back when you made a mistake. I can picture that. My husband was a hippie photographer back then/1967; our favorite lines from the song: "...they took twenty-seven 8 x 10 colored Glossy photographs with circles and arrows and a paragraph on the back of Each one explainin' what each one was, to be used as evidence against us"
Thanks Sarah Lee. You look just like your grandfather. Woody would've been proud--that's for sure. This is my favorite Pete Seeger song. You have the voice of an angel.
Beautiful performance. I love Woody Guthrie and Pete Seeger songs that i've listened to for decades, and I feel happy to hear you and your talented children keep up the tradition. Greetings from Sweden
The Clearwater has meant so much to me. When I was a young teen in the mid '70's it taught me so much. Lessons I still use and pass on today. Please help the Clearwater sail another 50 years.
I loved going to the Clearwater River Revival. I wouldn't miss it. It meant so much to me and as an added bonus I got to see Pete Seeger and all the hard work he put for the Hudson River. And most of all seeing you and listening to you talk and sing was such a treat. I love you Arlo! Thanks for the music and your down to earth quality and honesty you don't see too often these days. Stay safe and be well. Peace and love to you and your family.
Arlo!! Years ago you graced my city with a wonderful concert. A few hecklers crowed about Alice's restaurant song. Good memories because you had lots of new music and stories.
Arlo and family nailed this. Today when we need our neighbor the most, what would Pete do, what would Pete say? Thank God he taught us well, and thank god many listened. ❤️
What a wonderful thing you are doing! I put on a big fundraiser with 15 bands last year for Paradise California. Thank you for your music Mr Guthrie, I will copy and post all over.
You and I would agree on clean water, civil rights, equal opportunity for all etc etc. We would probably not agree on how to accomplish that (starting with individual responsibly that goes with individual freedoms). But, there is something about you that is likeable and its that kind of thing that offers hope in bringing us all together. :-)
Thanks to the generous donations from hundreds of Clearwater friends, the expected furloughs of Clearwater's staff have been partially rolled back. We look forward to bringing them all back, getting through this crisis, and getting the Sloop back on the river doing its important job. You can help. Thank you Arlo, but this is not correct. Entire staff has NOT yet been laid off -- we are awaiting a board decision and applying for PPP and CARES Act and other forgivable loans, grants and other funding -- hopeful to keep going. Spring crew and educators were cancelled because the Spring sailing season had to be cancelled. Donations are urgently needed at www.clearwater.org

Your family is a gift from God, and you brought the family to the service of music.

We sang this song at my father's memorial service in 2008. He was a sailor for sure. I still know all the words.

This is beautiful! And do I detect an inside joke after the last verse when Abe and Arlo grin at a laughing Sara Lee?
