    Cat vs Cummins you’re on point Troy. We run up in Canada at 140,000lbs through the mountains buddy has a identical 379 with a cat to my 389 his is cranked up to 700 something I’m running the 605 Cummins otherwise identical running gear and sure the bottom of the hill he can out pull me but by half way up he’s hot and I’m passing him then on a he backside he’s barely holding the grade at 15mph touching the brakes I’m doing 25-30 no brakes longevity wise I got 600, 000 working that Cummins day in and day out with big weights on big hills before a warranty inframe he’s getting half that life with the added power. Cat is so cool sounds good, easy to work on but it doesn’t compare they are two different beasts

    I agree I think Pete did a hell of a job keeping the hood truck alive dealing with all the government regulations, I just have to get used to that big windshield but a nice drop visor should handle that.

    Nice truck, from research the rectangles go back to the early days of Peterbuilts so my guess is they are bringing in the heritage part of it. From my understanding, only the first 589 Peterbuilts built will have a number badge on the dash also. I like it... I watched a video about the resemblance and they stated the mirrors or from the Cali Trucks, the front grill, lights, fenders, and fender steps they wanted to carry over that 389 heritage with some minor updates. I can't wait to see what customers do to their trucks.

    Dude...talk to your dealer about getting the security system setup on those new trucks. It's a lock code that the driver will have to memorize and put in every time they start the truck and it's nothing extra that has to be added. Just parameters in the software. I've had it in several peterbilt trucks and it's an added peace of mind for sure.

    Great video! I really enjoyed it. I had the opportunity to sit in a 589 flat top a while back, and l liked it.
    I’m hoping that Roadworks comes out with a breather chop kit like they have with the 389. Also if I was an engineer, I would of extended the front of the cab out like the 389/379, where the breathers would of not been right up to the hood. Making it easier to add breather lights front and back, while making the front end look longer. I also would of kept the 389 door handles, and explore door mounted mirrors, making it easier to install various styles of drop visors.

    Great look-see, Troy. Beautiful truck, and like ALL of them it has its plusses and minuses. But, I think that all adds up to preference, and how you can personalize it to your needs. I never saw one stock 389 without some beefs. The main thing about this truck is to fix those squeeks. Make Peterbilt aware of it, and let them know of the cause. Otherwise, it looks like a winner.

  • @JOHNDOUGH-xz3yu_52MERC
    @JOHNDOUGH-xz3yu_52MERC 3 месяца назад

    that is a really nice truck you have there. I think the shifting gears part is just part of what makes driving a truck fun I mean that way you can actually feel the truck . It's just always been like that and more and more people these days just can't learn how to shift gears so you have to accommodate for those people and it's just easier I understand that from a business point of view. It is what it is. Some people like it some people prefer it some don't. I prefer shifting I guess it's just a preference, or newer students are intimidated and scared to learn how to shift who knows

    I like it the hood rattle can be resolved easily. Great color choice. Thanks for letting everyone know about the bumper deal. Personally I like the automatic miss the manuals but at the end of day either one is great. The rectangle matching is kinda old school from the 379 don't you think? Over all is a sweet ride and your driver are very lucky. Yes why the heck do people need to come take stuff that doesn't belong to them. Great video Troy

    Just a little silicone spray on the hood friction points and its all good. My only thing as a retired driver who ran Mt. Hood in Oregon for many years I hate the curved windshield due to the ice buildup on the wiper blades causing the wiper to lift off the glass. Never had that happen with my old flat glass windshield trucks. Maybe someone will invent a heated wiper blade soon.

    Absolutely love the new 589. Drove peterbilts since 1970. Those were trucks these candyass drivers nowadays wouldn't even open the door to. No power steering. No air conditioning. Hardly any heat. Small crawl threw sleepers that really fat people could not get in to. Poor visibility. The list goes on and on. And that was just 359s. By 1980. 359s got bigger and better. Then we got 379. A really big improvement. 389s finished off the major improvements on the 359s. Now you have the 589. The chassis is all the same. But the new cab is totally different. A lot more room. Quieter. Visibility is a 110 % improved. Drove or road in all three series. Finally peterbilt got the truck right for the Driver. Like you said. Your new 589 would be just the truck to jump in and drive to the West Coast. And chances are. When you get there. The ride out there was so easy. You could almost drive right back to the house. Great Video. Stay Safe out There 🇺🇸

    I'd like to know why they put kenworth steps on my brand new peterbuilt.
    And that hood noise has got to GO.
    other than that I agree with you it's a nice ride.

    It is definitely different, not a bad looking Pete but you can not beat a 359, 379 or 389 just saying. Don't like the automatic or the Big windshield but it's new so I'm sure it will grow on ya. Not bad Troy, I would drive it.. 👊👊

    As a 1 truck owner operator,
    Would you stay glider with a Cat for easy maintenance or go new school with a truck like this one ?

      Go with glider, no def expense, no nox sensors, no dpf filters. Besides shops still dont know how to fix dpf problems.
