Back in 2020, we bought this rundown cabin in the Canadian wilderness to make a family home and create a cozy home base. We are so proud of how far we've come with this (mostly) DIY project and couldn't be happier to be raising a beautiful new baby out here in the woods. Is there honestly anything better than being in nature, getting your toes in the dirt and swimming in Canadian fresh water lakes? The only dilemma is that this cabin is barely big enough for the the 3 of us.... where will we find a spot for baby's stuff?

I really like the idea of a Murphy bed! In the middle of the night when you get up to feed the baby you can have that Murphy bed to go to, so it eamon can get rest. So when the baby wakes up in the morning he can come take the baby from you cause he's all rested and you can rest! ❤ I know it sounds a little crazy but my sister has 5 kids and her and my brother inlaw worked that system to make sure that both of them weren't burnt out at the same time. You both are going to be the best parents! 👶👣

I absolutely adore the fact that you are transforming the room where Bec spend so many nights during her chemo treatments. It is great to see that that room will hold so many good memories in the future, after that dark year. So happy for you guys!!

Looks amazing!! My only recommendation is to get a locking mechanism that secures the Murphy bed from falling outwards onto the crib. Otherwise I think it’s a great convertible space for you all! ❤

I believe the only way into the basement is to go outside to the door entrance or down the trap door. Neither option good especially in the winter and certainly not for the baby.
No, but I did wonder why the basement apartment couldn't be the spare room. Is Bob moving in permanently?

Beck, this comes with nothing but love behind it. I find it fascinating and INCREDIBLY beautiful how your body has overcome everything, and still has said “I’m going to figure out how to carry and sustain” this child. Human bodies are magical.
Two thoughts:
1. Put legs on the bed so if it comes down, won’t crush child!!!
2. Wallpaper: can get easy removable wallpaper and so many cute peel and stick and easy remove decals for nursery wall!
Bec & Bean praising themselves as they built the crib was so cute! They only knew not to flip it because they read the instructions, men wouldn't bother to do that 😂 Love all the nesting and community happening here. It's a beautiful thing. So happy for you guys!

For guests you have a loft with beds and the basement room. I was wondering why not just put a daybed in the nursery but I am enjoying the Murphy bed build.

Yeah I wondered that too. They have a loft and the downstairs, why try to cram in guests AND the baby? Also I was thinking the Murphy bed needs to be secured when up especially if baby is to be playing near it.
@@brendapeterson1059My thought would be that it may be for guests who would prefer not to have to go up and down stairs a lot or a ladder/around the house to get to and from.. maybe older guests? Something more comfortable and convenient idk but in any case it’s their house, they know their space and I’m sure they have their reasons for wanting that ground floor guest space.
It's probably for a grandparent, no one is putting guests in the baby room with the baby unless it's a nanny or granny. Also, a bassinet will fit in their room, and the baby won't be in it's own room for a while. Their video titles are always an exaggeration 😅

I recommend this so much!!- a pack and play that is also a bassinet!! 100× over. You can more it room to room. In the early months its helps to sleep in the bedroom while the other is with the baby so you can sleep. If your going with family you can take it with you! Also id start planning on baby proofing- you always think you have the time after they are born... you don't.
When we were expectant parents (some 51 years ago), I can identify with having built the crib only to find it didn't fit through the nursery door and having to somewhat take it apart in order to get it trough the doorway. When you started building it out on your deck, I was talking to the screen saying, "No, guys, that's not going to fit." The Murphy bed looks great.
Amazing job guys ... I would recommend you pop some latches on the sides so when the little one gets bigger they can't pull the bed on top on themselves ... my 15 month old would most definitely try !

Emon & Bec consider getting a collapasable crib. They have wood sides like a traditional crib but fold flat when are not in use so you can easily move or store them. When opened they are full sized though so baby will be able to sleep in the crib much longer than they would in a mini crib. Such a great option for a small flex space 😊
Eamon and bec acting like the baby won’t need it’s own room after being a baby 😂😂😂😂😂 that bed will be your bed when you want baby to finally sleep alone or when giving your partner a break.

No matter how bad my day seems whenever I watch Eamon and Bec I always feel better and finish the video with a smile on my face. These two are the most adorable couple I have ever seen and I am so looking forward to the "baby journey" videos. You guys are just amazing and such an inspiration in so many ways.

It's important to have a nursery- not necessarily for the babe to sleep in, but to have a place for baby's things 😂😂 my kids may have napped in their nursery a couple times as babies lol, but I still used it to change them in and hold their stuff. Love you guys and little babe too ❤❤❤
Yes I had no problem sleeping with my babies. First twin boys then a little girl. She had a heart condition. We just felt better with her with us. Always checking her rate lol. They slept in their rooms too. But I don’t think peeps shoukd stress with sleeping with baby or without. Do what works for you and your family. And never let anyone put pressure on you. But yes. You need the storage lol and the rocker lol. Have fun. :)).
Me too ❤co sleeping is so healthy for a good attachment system and strong nervous system. I have seen a lot of trauma with kids that can’t regulate due to sleep training. ❤
My kids were in their room from the beginning, I used a bassinet put in their room at night and out in the living area in the day until they grew out of it, then they slept in the cot all the time.
Yes I agree, I hope they set up a nursery for the little one. This is just a guest room with a changing table in it.
You should use that guest room as the nursery and then the bottom apartment you can use as the guestroom

I had a basinette on wheels for the first few months and moved babe around the house. Very convenient! Usually slept right beside our bed each night. Don't forget to check in with LLLC. Lots of support and ideas.
Good idea, we had a baby basket (bed) 🧺 and works perfect for the newborn stage, then a crib-to-toddler bed set up is best until they need a bigger bed...but honestly that murphy bed would be great when he/she gets older, our son is 18 yrs old and 6' 1' and we had many different size bed as he got older.
Eamon's creativity, energy & work ethics blows my mind. So impressive. Bec has to be the world's best pregnant assistant. She's amazing. Oso without a doubt is the world's best supervisor 😂

You are so patient with Oso. Bec holding her side of the board and Oso is right where she should stand. Works around Oso and does the splits over him Instead of asking him to move. ❤ You will be the best parents of children too !
Space! You have tons of space! The downstairs, a spare bedroom, and the great outdoors. Many, many families live in much smaller spaces. Don’t listen to the noise that says you need more. That place is HEAVEN for a growing family.
They had 4 people sleeping in a van. I think they can do in a house with 2½ people.
A) Put a latch so it never accidentally falls on baby (toddlers are wild).
B) This won't last. You should have made it just the baby space. Once baby is done in the bassinette stage you will want it in it's own crib. You'll want a space for rocking (feeding, snuggles). Also you will need space for baby's diapers (even if they are cloth), creams, clothing, wipes, toys, books, etc. The Murphy should be a cute closet for all the baby things. (even as a minimalist you will need baby things). Guests will have to move to the basement. You guys will be WAY TOO tired to constantly switch the room around (laundry, dishes-baby needs milking every few hours at the start then all the baby foods which you'll probably make from your garden). Just make your life easier and turn it into just a baby space. You have the energy now to do so, after baby is here you guys will be so tired and busy you won't be able to designate it for the room you actually need!!! And you'll be kicking yourself for not just doing it from the start.
Family is the most important thing you’ll ever build together. Never forget your love, your commitments and your family legacy.
I love LOVE the nursery/guest room vibes!!!!❤ One question though, why not make that entire room the nursery since you now have the beautiful downstairs spot and the extra loft area? I'm SO PUMPED for the gender reveal!!!!❤

@@joniboulware1436 In Eamon and Beds room with them. That's why they wanted a cot/crib that they could move between the two rooms and the one they got was too wide for the doors.

Your 19 week belly is my stomach when I’m on my period lol “I feel like I’m absolutely exploding!” Lol.
The bed turned out AWESOME! You two remind me of my daughter and her fiancé. They are 30 weeks along and have a very small house, trying to make the most of their small space. They too put a Murphy bed in. It is unbelievable to me how talented and creative Eamon is, just like my future son-in-law. They can do…anything. Bec I am so excited for you, you are just beaming with beauty in your pregnant state. The two of you ….and Oso are a lovely family❤
Reminds me of our first home when we were newly married which was built in the 1950s. We decided that we needed a sleeper sofa to put in our basement family room, which had a low ceiling much like your guest room/nursery. To make a long story short, the first sleeper sofa was so overstuffed, we couldn't even get it in the front door and had to send it back. The 2nd and final sleeper sofa we bought, we had to remove several basement steps and cut a hole in the basement ceiling to get it into position in the family room. I wanted to out a HVAC vent in that room anyway so the hole was put to good use! Good luck!

@eamonandbec you should look into getting a crib that attaches to the side of your bed. And you can zip down side of crib to pick up baby etc. Makes night feeding soooo much easier (breast or bottle)! Honestly, you will just want to sit in bed to feed baby at night.

Someone told me that another option is to make the big bedroom the family bedroom, which works if you want to co-sleep (we've been doing that since Kai was born and still do now) and make the room you would have used for the baby as a lova lova room, if you know what I mean. It's kind of genius really. Haha
My neighbor put in a Murphy bed when they had their baby and used a spare bedroom also. He is quite the craftsman and also built the crib and dresser. It was adorable. Back then they had no idea what the baby was. They did the room in darker than pastel greens, yellows and pink and blue with a woodsy animal forest effect. It was adorable.
Bec & Eamon ( and any dog owner reading this) I’m sure you’re aware, but just in case, there is a dog flu going around. They are calling it the “dogvid”; It’s a type of pneumonia and it’s scary dangerous. The signs are very minuscule, coughing and breathing differently. If you notice this, or if they stop eating, go straight to your vet. The outcome could be fatal. Please make sure Oso is up on all his vaccinations. I love that little pup so much, I just want him safe. I know you’re both good doggy parents, so I’m sure you are up to date with everything.

So much love to both of you just remember not to take it so seriously and don't expect things to go as planned. I went from being told I couldn't have kids because of my Endo and PCOS to finding out I was pregnant at 25. I was actually really excited and did as much as I could to be healthy. I wanted a natural birth so bad! 27 hours of labor in and I had 12 doctors and nurses rush the room and tell me they couldn't find her heartbeat we needed an emergency C-section. In the end I met my beautiful daughter who is turning 5 this year. I hope you just enjoy the ride through pregnancy and enjoy the birthing process. Just avoid any mom guilt when it comes to making the right choices for you and your family 💗
Taking apart a metal bed frame in bare feet and NOT bashing one of your toes is a MAJOR accomplishment.

Hey guys - I love watching the journey. I am a parent of 2 and is the best thing that happened to me.
Sleep is 100% the biggest challenge. With night feeds and the general anxiety of being a first time parent please bank on sleeping in the same room as your child for 6 to 9 months. Make sure that crib fits next to the Murphy bed and consider a bassinet for first 2-3 months!!! Your going to be spending loads of time napping next to your child!
If you can minimise the amount of distance between bed and crib the less awake you will be and easier it will be to fall back asleep.
Please maximise your sleep!! It will pay off in the long run
100% agree! Mom of 3 kids; that bed will probably be down and used by tired parent and/or sleepy/fussy baby all the time. Whatever gets you through those months until your baby sleeps through most or all of the night. And yes @tinabutcher1 - it ended up being around 9 months for all three until that happened!
Yep! I’ve had 9 kids and was thinking the same. I always sleep best when my baby is within arms reach of me. I always wanted a second bed to sleep with the baby so I wouldn’t worry about waking up my husband so he could sleep because he had to work in the morning
Yes! Two rooms so one parent can sleep alone and the other can sleep with the baby and you can alternate can be super helpful. Also amazing if you have a doula at first too. I also recommend a snoo at first too!

Love the nursery! One observation...the murphy bed is supposed to have a bar that connects those two bars that flip down. When it is flipped up on top of the mattress, it holds all the bedding together so everything doesn't fly off the mattress when folding it back up. Love the room though and can't wait to find out the gender next time!
