The Anthropocene Reviewed by John Green is such a good one, too. It's non-fiction but retains a lot of the charm and beauty of his other works. Some of the essays hit harder than others for me, but overall I really loved it.

Another super crushable book is Tolstoy's The Death of Ivan Ilyich. It's a novella so around 100 pages depending on the edition. It's a cool introduction to Tolstoy. Absolutely devastating but so real and raw. 100% recommend

Short read recommendation Piranesi by Susanna Clarke. YA book Scythe by Neal Shusterman (first of trilogy). I am now retired age 66 and will still read a good YA. Liked Patrick Ness's trilogy Chaos Walking. Pity the film wasn't great. Love your chats about books (as that is what it feels like). I do watch other booktubers but find your's particularly good. I just got the John Green box set and am so stoked! One of my favorite books I flew through was I'm thinking of ending things by Iain Reid, who's now one of my favorite authors. His ability to create this uncomfortable ominous feeling in his books reels me in and I'm in love with everything he's written. Id love to hear what you think sometime!

The Rosie Project is about a man who has autism and falls in love with a woman but doesn't know it. I took the writer quite a few years actually do write it and get it published which I really admire. There's a sequel, too, The Rosie Effect. Great list. The Yellow Wallpaper is also one of my favourite short stories right after A&P and Bullet Through The Brain. I love your lists.

If you’re looking for short books you can crush, I highly recommend a short stay in hell! It is about 100 or so pages and I kept thinking about this book weeks afterward, and if you like Fantasy or Urban Fantasy, the Dresden Files are about 200-250 ish page books about a wizard in Chicago working with the Chicago PD, gives me Supernatural vibes and not so heavy! Love your content so much ❤

For me, among the best "weekend," books are the books from "The Tales of The City," series by Armistead Maupin. I remember watching the T.V. Dramatization of the 1st book, and loving it, many years ago, so decided to read the books.
I think that there are about 10, in all. I never got round to reading them all, but have just started again, as I noticed that he has added a new one.
They're great fun, short books, quirky with all sorts of "coincidences" and many of the characters appear in many of the books, as their lives develop.
As the original book was "serialized" in The San Francisco Chronicle (I believe) the chapters are all really short, so you can read it/them in bursts and finish chapters in minutes, which, I love.

Love the videos and will absolutely be picking up a few of these. I took your Looking For Alaska recommendation a while back on TikTok. Loved it!
Side note: I used to be a band director, and whenever I stepped to the mic to say a few things to the audience during concerts, my wife would sweat. Because I never planned out my speeches… specifically the ends of them. I constant found myself just stammering and ending a speech much like the way you end your videos 😂. Keep up the great content Nick!

You may or may not be interested to know that Rita Hayworth…,The Body, Apt Pupil & The Breathing Method were previously bound together in one book called, ‘Different Seasons’. I personally don’t know whether I prefer the single story binds or the multiple binds. I do remember reading the first three and based on the Breathing Method’s synopsis, I’m pretty sure I would have remembered reading that as it sounds crazy.

Great recommendations! The Yellow Wallpaper especially, it deserves so much more recognition in the 'mainstream' than it gets! Even in horror circles there are so many people who've never even heard of it, such a shame. Last year I did a 'book a day' challenge for a week, and I think those titles would also work well in this context. The books I read then were:
    - And Every Morning the Way Home Gets Longer and Longer, by Fredrik Backman
    - This Is Where We Live, by Katie Hardie
    - Snow, Dog, Foot, by Claudio Morandini
    - Earthlings, by Sayaka Murata
    - White Is for Witching, by Helen Oyeyemi
    - The Housekeeper and the Professor, by Yōko Ogawa
    - Gamayun Tales 1, by Alexander Utkin (graphic novel)

    Some more weekendable books:
    - What you are looking for is in the library (Michiko Aoyama)
    - The five people you meet in heaven (Mitch Albom)
    - A wizard's guide to defensive baking (T.Kingfisher)
    - The wishing game (Meg Shaffer)
    - Before the coffee gets cold (Toshikazu Kawaguchi)
    - Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde (Robert Louise Stevenson, Vladimir Nabokov)
    - I Robot (Isaac Asimov)
    - And every morning the way home gets longer and longer (Fredrik Backman)
    - The queen's gambit (Walter Tevis)
    - The haunting of hill house (Shirley Jackson)
    - Flowers for Algernon (Daniel Keys)
    - The giver (Louis Lowry)
    - The picture of Dorian Grey (Oscar Wilde)
    - Klara and the sun (Kazuo Ishiguro)

Scott Fitzgerald 180 pages, 2.00 a day by Kathryn J. Edin ~210 pages. This is a really eye opening nonfiction about the poorest of poor in the US, the audiobook is 7 hours (If you like this read Evicted or Poverty, by America by Matthew Desmond)

Small things like these by Claire Keegan is only 112 pages, I read it twice last year.
Prosper's Demon and the sequel Inside Man by K. J. Parker are also both very short (my new favourites! :D )
I also really like to read graphic novels, I would recommend Diosamante by Alejandro Jodorowsky.
Fredrick Backman's And Every Morning the Way Home Gets Longer and Longer is suuuper short, but it will crush your heart and soul.
Bonus: The Egg by Andy Weir is only about 3 pages long, but it changed my life :D

I just discovered your channel about 6 hours ago & it’s already one of my favorites, I have a couple books that I’m wondering if you’ve read or not. I’m not trying to convince you to read them, but just curious if you happen to have. If you haven’t read them, just say you haven’t read them but if you HAVE, I would love to hear your opinions on them. I am the only avid reader and my group of friends so this channel is a nice escape for me. The first one (these couple of books are in no particular order), is The Devil All The Time by Donald Ray Pollock. The second one is Cherry by Nico Walker, the third one is The Night Manager by arguably the best espionage writer in modern history, John Le Carr’e. And lastly, I just watched your American psycho review, and I was wondering if you’ve read Requiem For A Dream. They aren’t really similar, but they are both equally dark, and would love to hear your opinion on them. So anyways, if you have read any of these books, I would like to hear your thoughts. My last one is Lovecraft Country, it’s a superb family, racist, sci-fi, black humor adventure set in the 1950s. It takes many themes from Lovecraft, but ultimately in my opinion, the point is that racism and intolerance are far more egregious than any fictional monster or entity. No pressure to respond but if you do, that would be lovely, have a good day, sir and thank you for your entertaining content. ❤💯

Some of my favorite weekend-able books are pretty much any horror story by Edgar Allan Poe, but especially The Fall of the House of Usher, The Black Cat, and the Cask of Amontillado, Nothing But Blackened Teeth by Cassandra Khaw is just over 100 pages and I thought that was pretty good. But I recently read We Have Always Lived in the Castle by Shirley Jackson which is a little less than 200 pages and I fell in love with that book. Easily five out of five stars for me. Like the Yellow Wallpaper, when you read about the background of that book and of Shirley Jackson's life it makes the book make even more sense and is a bit heartbreaking. I would say my favorite short fiction of Stephen King at least so far is The Langoliers. So fucking good. You should go into that one as blind as you can IMO.

War & Peace and Crime & Punishment are definitely toilet crushable… if you pile them on the toilet 😂

My Friend Dahmer is a super interesting graphic novel that took me about an hour to read. Written by a guy who knew Jeffrey Dahmer in high school.
