  • In this feature, Master Yap Boh Heong demonstrates how intention (Yi 意) can be used not only in martial arts but also for healing. Traditionally, Shaolin was considered a center for learning (similar to a modern university) that taught three areas of knowledge - Martial Arts, Buddhism (meditation & philosophy), and Chinese Medicine. Nowadays, many practitioners concentrate on the "Martial" component; however, they often overlook the Spiritual and Medical aspects. Hopefully, the information Master Yap shares in this video will encourage everyone to investigate further the intricacies hidden inside these ancient arts.

Yan Shou Gong 延壽功 is an Authentic Nei Gong practice traditionally taught to only the most senior monks in the Southern Shaolin Temple. Each of the Yan Shou Gong sets condenses the best practices of the Nei Gong arts, making them:
    • Easy to learn.
    • Quick to practice.
    • Produce real internal skills.
Many types of Nei/Qi Gong practices typically take years before a student feels any benefits from the training; Or even worse, the methods don’t produce any results. However, this is not the case with Yan Shou Gong, as the student will notice the benefits instantly, and in most instances, it can begin to deliver results within weeks.
Yan Shou Gong also emphasizes the development of kinetic energy and the mind; in Chinese martial arts, these terms are referred to as Jin 勁 and Yi 意. It also teaches the practitioner how to perform techniques such as Grounding, Rooting, and Centering, creating awareness and mindfulness of being in the body. This can improve a practitioner’s martial abilities, but it can also help relieve stress, anxiety, and depression.
The comprehensive instruction provided in this course is ideal for martial artists who want to study an authentic Nei Gong system/internal art. It is also suitable for those who have previously been too busy, living a stressed-out lifestyle, and now need to work on improving their health.
    Inner-door Students Group:
As well as the comprehensive video instruction provided within the course, Master Yap has created a private group to personally guide students studying the Yan Shou Gong (Shaolin Nei Gong) course with him. Access to the group is exclusive and only available to students who enroll in this course. Students can use the group to ask questions, discuss the video lessons and share their training experiences with the other pupils. Master Yap will be on hand to answer any questions and share new video lessons with the group.

There's a saying in Mandarin, 十指连心,which literally means "ten fingers connect to the heart". Figuratively, it's to describe the closeness of family relationships. If one member(finger) hurt, your heart will be in pain.
There's also another saying, 妙手仁心,which literally means "excellent hands benevolent heart", but is often translated as "healing hands", because it is the title of a modern Chinese medical drama.
Intention comes from the heart, and is expressed throught the hands. That's why in Chinese culture, arts and crafts are also considered to be good spiritual cultivation.

For example, a leading biologist talks about bioelectricy: ruclips.net/video/ZSddchIGNG0/видео.html&ab_channel=LexClips.
There is no coincidence that in Daoist neigong classically describes true Yang Qi as liquid-like fast electrical-type current and true Yin Qi as a heavy gathering and containing field.

    • @johndough8115

What he is showing, is a Demo of Principles, and Methods... of channeling forces Internally (without mere muscle power). If the OP is just as Sensitive (high skill level), then the OP can remain relaxed.. and this Master would not easily be able to move the OP. If you were paying attention, you would realize this is already in Wing Chun's system. The problem is, that too many WC teachers have only been spreading the External... and not passing on the FULL true Internal teachings.
I was fortunate to have one WC teacher, that taught one small part of the internal method... and I was able to eventually figure out the rest. That tends to happen, when the fighters you spar against most often, are twice your mass and strength... with decent skill levels. Either you learn the proper internal ways.. or you are getting shut down and Blasted all over the place.
Let me tell you the difference, in the most WC of ways. When I used to use WC... I used hard force in my arms, to do something like a Jut Sao (full power). It seemed to deflect just fine that way... and for the longest time, I thought that was exactly how it was supposed to operate. But when I used the proper Internal Power... and only used about 15% power levels... and the MMA fighters arm that I connected with... it nearly shattered his wristbone. He was instantly in pain... and within less than an hours time, the injury swelled up nearly double in size. He was in serious pain, for many days to follow... and I barely put any Jing into it. With Internal power... you are not just using your arms... Instead.. you are using your entire body mass (in the most optimal, and explosive, way possible). Your arm might weight 15 lbs... But thats is nothing, compared to my 180 lb "Arm" attack (full body unified mass).
Its certainly a lot more complex than just that. And, it takes slow motion training, found in the first form (Three Prayers to Buddha section, that is repeated 3 times... that section is supposed to take about 16 min long... and you should repeat the entire form 4x in a row, without rest.. to extend your time to a bit over 1hr, as a minimum). It also requires proper deep breathing (audibly loud, in through the nose, out through the mouth), to develop the needed increased blood circulation channels. And again... that is just the start.
You know, there are a lot of seemingly conflicting teachings in WC. For example... they teach the high horse stance for the majority of the art... BUT... look at the Long Pole form... and you learn to use the low horse stance. If its acceptable to use this with the pole... is it not acceptable to use it in fighting barehand? Ive tried it, and it works like a charm. You use it as part of a close-range counter-strike... and it becomes inescapable, with the depth and power to take them right off their feet (the quick level change, also makes it nearly impossible for them to counterstrike you, in the process).
A lot of WC teachers preach the importance of staying on the centerline. But when you do Chi Sao... you are using two different lines, at the shoulder-lines. Both are equally important, for different situations / uses.
WC teachers often stress the importance and advantages of straight line attacks. But in the later forms, you learn some circular strikes, body twisting, and other circular movements. Again, each have their purposes.
What about Biu Gee (Finger Strikes)? Why isnt there a Toe-strike kick taught in WC? Its the exact same fighting Principle... just used with the leg. Ive also used this Toe-Kick, to stab a Kyokushin Karate instructors inner thigh muscle. It caused him to buckle slightly.. and he was temporarily unable to move for a few seconds... so I stepped in and did a few handstrikes, that he couldnt defend against, as he was he able to evade / move. It doesnt take that much more time, to condition the toes on the sandbags. It also extends your kicks potential range (another target I like, is the crease area of the hip fold, the abdomen, and of course... the groin).
I could go on and on... about so many misunderstandings in WC... as well as so much that has been mis-interpreted, corrupted, and even forgotten / lost. Even hidden on purpose... from key teachers, themselves.
Heck... look at Biu Gee. It trains the finger strikes... but, where is the Dim Mak point training, that goes along with it? You often see WC books that show these points... but... the teachers are not spilling that knowledge to the general students... as far as I know / have experienced.

@@johndough8115 >>What he is showing, is a Demo of Principles, and Methods... of channeling forces Internally (without mere muscle power).
So "internal" means "without mere muscle power"? Very interesting, so the power is coming from someplace other than the muscles? Or you mean not relying on just muscles? Because everyone in just about every style understands the importance of structure on some level. Is THAT what enhances your so called "mere muscles"?
And use of "concepts/principles"? You pontificate on this stuff as if to reveal something new, which is not new at all..in fact it's far from new. All Chinese Arts have tons of principles and concepts, also nothing new.
However these concepts from one art to another may be very different or even contradict each other... In any case these concepts are far from
fool-proof and very often fail students due to a lack of realistic training.
      >>If the OP is just as Sensitive (high skill level), then the OP can remain relaxed.. and this Master would not easily be able to move the OP.
      >>If you were paying attention, you would realize this is already in Wing Chun's system.
We train students to relax starting on day one. And I was paying attention since that first day over 30 years ago, thanks for the tip though..
For starters it's simply not possible to do Wing Chun well if you are not relaxed.
      >>The problem is, that too many WC teachers have only been spreading the External... and not passing on the FULL true Internal teachings.
Oh is THAT the problem?LOL Wow... So what exactly do you mean by "internal"? Ip Man never used the term and since we already established that being relaxed and using structure are critical parts of the system I need clarification on EXACTLY what you mean by Internal. Please post a link or clearly explain what internal is from a nuts and bolts perspective vs external...
Moves seen in this video that leave the line are likely outside Wing Chun in terms of energy vector and system concepts. I'd love to roll with this guy and see if he can do what he does to his students to me... I realize that's not going to happen but it would be fun to experience... Wing Chun spends many hours/yrs refining how to generate pure direct linear energy aka "forward spring energy" .. It's refinement and sensitivity to such energy is key to doing the art but not its totality, meaning there are other elements that all fit together to create a Functional Wing Chun fighter... Other concepts or methods are not invalid but may be contradictory to Wing Chun's methods, which I am not convinced you understand... Tai Chi or Bagua simply use different ideas in a different way...
A low Gwan horse stance is used to compensate for the extremely heavy weight of the Gwan... Using that stance while doing empty hand Wing Chun is peculiar at best and silly at worst.. If you don't understand what you're giving up then you need to review basic physics...or go train Shotokan and compare that to Wing Chun...
A jut sao to "block"? Not very high level stuff there...depending on your meaning... Huge amounts of energy should never be needed, if it is you're doing something wrong and it has nothing to do with spooky "internal" vs "external" nonsense...

I have been training for a long time and I am 2nd generation Ip Man... I have asked many people to explain internal and I have yet to hear anyone do it...
As such I tend to think it's nonsense...but I am open to seeing it or feeling it... Or seeing ANY example of it in real fighting...hell it's very hard to
find any example of real and effective kung fu fighting in any sport fighting venue let alone pure "internal" Kung Fu.
So please explain in scientific terms exactly what "internal" means and how it manifests in the physical world compared to "external"... Or if you simply mean
good use of structure, position and energy, please just say that...

Ive met, and sparred at least 5 Masterclass level (Flawless application) fighters to date... where as many artists might never meet a single Masterclass fighter, in their entire lives.
Let me ask you... do you think a punch from one system is all that much different from another?! Why do you think a Karate punch, would be more or less powerful than a Boxer, or a Wing Chun punch? Its basically all of the same physics involved. Most of the power output, comes down to the kind of training you do... and how far you Push yourself... to get to a certain level of development.
Many, if not the majority of WC practitioners... dont even train outside of class.. and most, dont even spar against non-WC fighters. Obviously, such amateurs, will easily fall to pieces, against the most simple of arts, such as Kickboxing or Muay Thai. They also often do not train enough conditioning, nor Fitness. Where as, I used to do a 1hr hardcore CORE workout, every day, would strike a hardpacked wall mounted sandbag for an hour session (or a free-hanging bag, filled with about 15 to 20 lbs of steel BBs), would heel kick a 4" diameter steel pole while wearing hard leather bottomed dress shoes (no padding, full power, full speed), do full Iron Body conditioning on EVERY part of my body... including chopping my own throat (full power, full speed). I also trained both in and out of classes... a minimum of 4 to 8hrs each day... 7 days a week, 365 days a year... for a solid 5yrs... before easing up on my training. (once you reach masterclass level.. you just need to keep your tools sharp... and so far less training time is needed). I also used to spar various fighters, every weekend. In fact... I made so many contacts, that I ended up forming a sparring group. We had a minimum of 15 different artists show up at every meet... to cross train + spar each other. I know for a fact, that at least two of these dudes, competed in full contact competitions, all over the states.
Ive had a handful of fighters over at my house, to see what Kungfu training was actually like. None could keep up with my workout pace, let alone, anything else to follow. Even the MMA fighters, that were over 5 yrs younger than me. Id then ask them to hit the sandbag for 20 min without stopping, barefist... and you could easily tell that their fists were soft, and weak... and their efforts / willpower was very limited.. as they ended up pausing / taking breaks, despite being asked not to. Then I had one of them try hitting the "Iron Bag" (full of ball-bearings)... and after one mild hit.. the MMA fighter looked at me, like I was crazy. His baby soft fist, used to soft pillow coverings... stinging in pain, and Red from hard impact.
One time I had one of my students follow me to one of my training routines, outdoors. There is a concrete racquetball wall, not too far from where I was living. I had him find a pair of hard leather dress shoes.. and we began. Flat foot kicks to the concrete wall... as fast and hard as possible... for a 15 min NONSTOP Set. No slowing down the speed... and no easing up on the Impact power. Less than a 2min rest, then swap legs. Each leg gets both a set from the REAR leg position, and the LEAD leg position. That is a little over 1hr, of nearly non-stop kicking. I used to do that every other day... for probably 3 solid months. He kicked the wall, and was shocked at how hard the impact was... and how much his foot stung and burned in pain... and I could tell that he didnt enjoy it, and... he was intentionally reducing his impacts from that point on. Meanwhile, my kicks were so powerful on impact... that it Echoed throughout the entire neighborhood, like a gunn being fired. I can generate more power from my close-range lead leg kicks, than many fighters can generate from their Rear leg kicks.
But what do you expect? If you are used to kicking a soft pillow (heavy bag), with intermittent kicks whenever you feel like it... that isnt going to yield the same kinds of results. I too.. have a 6ft tall Muay Thai bag... and its good for developing Penetration depth. But its not good for overall Impact Power.. and there is virtually NO conditioning at all, from using it.. even if you kick it when it swings back towards yourself.
One time, a fighter I used to spar often (whom I used to withhold my power, as not to intentionally cause injuries to him)... told me that WC was Sh*T, and So was I. So the next time we sparred, I gave him a tiny taste of that Kick training I spoke about earlier. He took one step towards me, while starting to throw a Cross. As his lead legs foot planted on the ground.. his kneecap was met by my stomping kick. I used only about 15% of what I was capable of delivering. That was still way too much. The dude, whom has a room full of 1st and 2nd place trophies from full contact competitions... whos limbs could fit 2 or 3 of my limbs within them... dropped to the mat like a Stone... and was SCREAMING, and crying a river of tears. This went on for about 5 full minutes, before two other dudes were able to help him hop off on one leg, back to his car. It took the dude a month to recover from the resulting injury... and I had barely even used a Fraction of what I was capable of releasing.
But hey... tell you what... Try out at least One of those training methods described above. Get a pair of used hard leather bottomed dress shoes, and go heel+instep kick a telephone pole / tree for a full 1hr session, as described above. Full speed, Full impact.. no rests during the sets, no slowdown, no impact reductions. And then, go find a reputable Kung Fu school, and ask to try hitting a wall mounted sandbag for at least 30min (barefisted). See the difference in feel, and impact... as it feels like you are hitting a concrete wall... rather than a soft gushy heavy bag. And while you are there... might as well ask for a few personal demos. You might actually learn something... other than running your mouth, with Ignorant Assumptions, based on a bunch of clueless amateurs, looking like Clowns.
And while your at it.. might as well try a slow motion pushup set. At least 10 seconds minimum going down, and 10 seconds up minimum. See how many you can do, compared to typical fast sets. If you can make it to 20... Id be surprised. Even more challenging, if you do the WC pushups... where you place your chest over both vertical fists, in the center of your body. If your knuckles are weak.. use carpet. If you have the ability... do then on hardwood, or concrete. Make sure to keep your elbows as close to the sides of your body, at all times. They should rub the sides of your ribcage, as you go up and down. Not point outwards like chicken wings.
One part of the WC workout that I was taught, involved 3 sets of 100 crunches, followed immediately by 3 to 5 min of Leg Lifts & Lowers + Legs Spins (about the size of a basketball, staying about 3 inches away from the ground max), and at least one part at the end, where you hold your legs out, about 3" up from the ground... for at least 60 seconds minimum. When I got built up... I put on 15lb leg weights, when doing the leg lifts/spins, for the extra challenge. Try and replicate it, to see how good your core actually is. I also used to do Inverted pushups (handstand pushups), lightly sliding against a wall. (I was also able to walk at least 50 ft on my hands, at the time.. due to such training)
Dont give me Excuses either. You have a big mouth... but the real question is... are you willing to exercise your muscles, more than your mouth, and keyboard fingers...

Yes, it's extremely difficult, mainly because in order to use it properly you need to be extremely relaxed and fearless. All this under the stress of being attacked or even with your life at risk. It needs a lot of self knowledge and that's the most difficult feat your could embark on.

@@Prueba_Te you don't get the point that in a real fight an opponent wouldn't just threw a straight punch and then stand still like stick.
Also a real fight is never this clean because even if you are a trained boxer or wrestlet you will still have a high chances of getting hit so fr. This entire thing in the video is a total garbage
