In the books, there's a lot more nuance surrounding the end of Harry and Cho's relationship. He didn't dump her for the verisatum incident, it revolved around a friend of hers who was a destructive force towards Harry, but who Cho placed her loyalty to above Harry.

    • @MFBloosh

This is why movies are dying and TV shows are taking over. 2-3 hours isn’t enough time to adapt a book.

    • @rafaelmatos5851
      @rafaelmatos5851 Год назад

It was not just Cho's loyalty to her friend that caused the end of their relationship, but a snowball of events and feelings. Their love was doom to end ever since Cho chose Cedric over Harry. After Cedric died, he became the ghost that would haunt Harry and Cho's love story, as she never really loved Harry as he deserved because she was trying to fill a void left by Cedric. And then there was the Marietta (Cho's friend) incidente. In the book, Marietta was the one to snitch Dumbledore's Army to Umbridge and she did it on her own free will and not because of Veritaserum. That was another major blow on their relationship. But the one thing that completly killed it was Cho's insecurity regarding Harry's friendship with Hermione. Cho was always jealous of Hermione and, after speaking ill of her because of the little trap she set to any one that dared to snitch Dumbledore's Army (which happened to be Cho's friend), Harry defended Hermione, causing the end of their love story.

Love how somber the tone is and this actually has one of the scenes I prefer in the movie over the book - it's the scene at the end of the 'Felix Felicis' portion when Harry convinces Slughorn to give him the memory. It was beautiful in the book too, but I adored the story of the fish and both performances really delivered. So lovely.

I've watched a lot of HP reviews (a LOT!), and you two are my favourites. A wee point - Harry and the rest DID know Cho wasn't at fault. It was actually Snape that told them (deliberately of course), in Umbridge's office in Order of the Phoenix. Umbridge wanted some more verita serum to use on Harry and Snape told her there was none left, as she'd "used the last of it on Miss Chang". :)

The paintings of the headmasters only appear after they passed. All the paintings in the office are of former headmasters, and Dumbledore's is the newest. They capture part of their original personality, advice and help the current headmaster, most notably by transferring messages or checking in on other places where they have portraits. We saw it in the Order of the Phoenix, where Phineas Nigellus (both former headmaster and member of the Black Family) communicates through his portrait in Grimmauld Place and brings news on Arthur's condition. Dumbledore's portrait sleeping when Harry is there is more of a coincidence, or it needs time to adjust before becoming fully enchanted, like a painting needs time to dry.

Harry and Ginny's love story is more detailed in the books. We get to see how Harry really feels around her and his thoughts regarding Ginny dating Dean. It's interesting because Dean is a close friend of Harry, so the fact they like the same girl affects their friendship a little bit. And let's not talk about the conflict regarding Ron. Not just that, but Harry and Ginny actually become an official couple in the book. The book actually shows how Ginny's feelings for Harry developed. And I have to say it... Hermione is the one that really guided Harry and Ginny to be a couple. It was thanks to her advice to Ginny about how to deal with her feelings for Harry that eventually caused him to see her as a romantic interest. Hermione helped Ginny to be more relaxed around Harry, so he could see her true self, and suggested her to date other boys, either to get over Harry or to get more confidence in herself. In fact, despite having already started developing feelings for Ginny for a while, Harry only realized he was in love with her after seeing her kissing Dean.

I know you were done with this installment a while ago, but in case you come back to read comments (and for anyone else coming here after I've commented), you should pay close attention to the things in little Tom Riddle's orphanage room.
There are seven objects on the windowsill; seven is a number that apparently has significance for Tom Riddle.
Tom also has a photograph, a postcard maybe, of the exact same rock in the ocean where Dumbledore takes Harry to find the locket.
You mention that "Deathly Hallows, Part 1" is your favorite of any film.
On the off chance you do see this comment, I would like to recommend to you to react to "Arrival".
It's not in the fantasy genre, but the science fiction one instead, but it is slow-paced, thoughtful, and deep. I think you'd really like it.
I have to say, there are not very many films that leave the viewer mulling over the meaning released in the film. And I could watch you two discuss the philosophy and psychology of Harry Potter films all day and night.

I'm in the camp of 'noooo thanks' for this movie, but it isn't because of the lack of action. The book didn't have much action either, but it's by far my favorite book. It's all the things they left out and then all the things they decided to put in instead. And it's story that they left out. A lot of explanation and things that allow for things to make sense. They focus on so many things that they shouldn't be focusing on, like all the teenage drama... they're preparing for a war, in the book you really notice that, in the movie it's like 'yeah, Voldie's out there, but let's have some really awkward kisses, and pie feeding, and shoelace scenes, that'll do much better'... Yeah no. Not for me.
I'm glad Ginny is getting some love. She's a great character... once again in the books... she's a bit of a blank slate that forgot to develop on screen sadly... but I'm still glad there's someone out there who at least doesn't hate her. I just wish she had better character development. It isn't Bonnie's fault, she did the best she could with what she was given, but what she was given just wasn't great.
Other than that... I do like the Dumbledore scenes, especially the last ones. The cave and his death scene were really well done, he becomes far more human in this movie and I do love that.

    8:19 Davin: "kill Dumbledore?"
me: "you are a wizzard, Davin." 😊
From an adult point of view, I really like the film because it's such a roller coaster. Light and heavy at the same time. All teenage love problems funny without being ridiculous. Rupert Grint super good and funny in this part. What I found saddest, apart from Dumbledore's death of course, was when Slughorn related how he got Francis and the glass was empty the day Lili died. I have to swallow hard when he says that. Great scene with Alan Rickman and Michael Gambon standing in front of each other. and and and. I like that part a lot. ( I think my favorite book )

I realised on my 2nd rewatch why I don't like movies 4 through 8. They try to spin the ending to be cheerful as if something good could still happen. Whereas books 4-7 end on a very bleak note, with Cedric, Sirius and Dumbledore dying.
Also, Dumbledore's Funeral is such a great and sad moment in the book. I was bawling from the moment Fawkes starts singing his lament to calm every resident of Hogwarts till he leaves, and Harry comes to the grim realisation that he needs to be alone to destroy the Horcruxes. Not that Ron and Hermione let him do that.
One part I definitely don't like about this movie is Draco's story is not left a mystery, while in the book Harry is super annoying about it, almost bunking Quidditch practice to keep an eye on Malfoy.
