    Great review! I own this bike and love it! I got used to the gauge and air filter box. No big deal after a while. It’s similar to a sportster, but with dirt bike handlebars, suspension, and scrambler tires. Engine is so sweeeeeet!

      Pros and cons?
      Had a 92 sporty and a 70s CB 750. Currently have a 96 softtail frankenstein and a 2017 xr650l. Looking for a big motor basic bike to add to the mix.

      Phillip Parker do you ever get it off in the sand/dirt/gravel? Have you done anything to he suspension? Still love it?

    Curious how this would perform 2up with a passenger around 110lbs.

    I'm a diehard Yamaha guy but come on, a digital speedo on a retro bike? And no tach? Who's the genius at Yamaha that thought this was a good idea? If I get one I hope the aftermarket has what this should have come with. The bike looks awesome otherwise.

    Come round to liking this bike, but it certainly isn't light, as the tester claims, although seeing my regular ride is a 265 kg (wet) Yamaha MT-01 it wouldn't worry me. It reminds me of my XT500 from the early 80s. I wish it had cross-spoke wheels so it could run on tubeless tyres. Still not keen on the look of the frame and the shocks haven't enough travel, but the tank is beautiful. I bet it's fun to short shift on.

      I have finally bought one - just short of three years old, pristine condition, 4,200 km - and I see it as XT500 meets Harley Sportster. It's a great engine. Peak torque at 3,000 rpm. I have come round to liking the look of the frame, and the shocks are fine on the road. I wish it ran on tubeless tyres.

      @@abdulazizsaleh8650 I am very happy with the bike. You can buy an aftermarket speedo. Tubeless? Just carry some Slime or equivalent.

    Nice review! Question, happy with 5 speeds or would a 6th gear be preferred? Sitting on this bike at the 2017 Toronto motorcycle show I found the air cleaner box rather intrusive to the right knee as well. This motorcycle may be heavier but it carries its weight down low.

    • @MotorcycleExperience
      @MotorcycleExperience  7 лет назад +2

      Thanks for watching. It's personal preference really on having a 5th or 6th gear. Some motorcyclists like the fuel savings of a 6th gear. I find it more fun to have a 6th gear as well ;)

      having ridden it for the past two months, a 6th would be nice. The feeling of topping out at 85ish sucks.

      A Honda Grom can suit someone that's 6 ft tall, so... yes, it can.

    Why are y'all obsessed with putting on LOUDER pipe/pipes? Quiet is good. Leave the OEM exhaust especially if aftermarket one removes the catalytic converter.

    Not to be rude, but to each their own. I own two yamaha cruisers and I have no Idea why for this price anyone would want to buy this. Its heavier than my 1100. Why not buy a nice dual sport for around the same price tag? This this is no more off road than my XV1100 if i put some knobby tires on it. Watch shadetree surgeon's video on scramblers and you'll understand what I mean. Yamaha's marketing video for this bike was so laughable, reminded me of hipsters taking over Portland, Oregon in the past decade, everyone's bearded drinkin IPA's and "look at me on my bolt with dirtbike seat and handle bars".

    • @gerdz101
      @gerdz101 3 года назад +1

      "Why not buy a nice dual sport for around the same price tag" Because not everyone likes the look of a dual sport bike. I myself don't fancy the looks of a dual sport but love the retro/scrambler look of the SCR. Like you said to each their own.

    I dont want any ridable or drivable machine without a tach. Must have a tach & speedo, both analog. Anything less is just trying to be cute
