As an old drummer who hard hit them, this performance is so spectacular that it brought tears to my eyes like an opera masterpiece does others. Eloy isn't just one of the hardest hitters I can remember, he does it without sacrificing his incredible speed nor his precise technique. More evidence is the fact that despite hitting as hard as he does, his kit, especially his rims and cymbals aren't beat to piss, something hard to hide. That indicates a level of technique where he hits just hard enough to get his sound without impairing his speed and precision or beating his kit to dents and splinters. The icing on the cake is how creative his fills, grooves and time improvisations are. His tom work shows his Brazilian heritage, which he achieves by the tune on his toms and how he hits them. It's hard to stop, there's so much, even how his cymbals are arranged and extraordinary grace notes like sticking a crash into a tom fill effectively using it as a tom. I'm also incredibly impressed by Mario Duplantier of Gojira and have come to consider him as the co-best metal drummer around along with Senhor Casagrande. I honestly can't elevate one over the other but that's not a putdown of either considering the fact that Metal drummers now surpass Jazz drummers as the best in all music categories. I'm saying that these two guys are both at the top of a musical genre packed with with the best drummers in the world. Both have elevated their skill level to the point that they can express themselves artfully. A drummer can be in perfect time and sound shitty but these two can play fast and loose enough within the beat to sound good and go right back into time through use of speed and technique. okay rant over.
I am a jazz drummer from Baltimore so metal isn't my main type of music, but I love the way you play. It's not typical overplaying. It's exactly what the song needs. That is appreciated very much. Your playing is so smooth and powerful. Thanks for sharing. Respect from Baltimore as always.
He plays a lot of traditional Brazilian music, samba being one of his backgrounds. That's why you'll never see his style of playing from anyone else, he's definitely unique and is a complete master in Brazilian music. He has some video's of his solo's at Brazilian drum festivals that are just amazing to watch.
Dude, you hit the nail in the head. He is so awesome because he's playing is all for the sake of the groove. No overplaying, no crazy fills. Just straight playing, but so technical and powerful! He is a monster!
I saw this guy playing drums at Modern Drummer 2005. I remember me thinking "Well what will happen to this young genious in next 15 years?" Two thumbs up!
This guy is the new Peart as far as creativity and power delivered to the skins.......Every stroke is intentional and delivered with such finesse and power
After I saw this comment I went back and listened to it again. You're definitely not wrong about the things you mentioned. Peart was big into tribal grooves to and some of these tom grooves and sounds are almost reminiscent of something Neil would do. Even though I know Eloy grooves hard on the Brazilian drumming.

Desde que o Eloy entrou pro grupo eu vejo o Sepultura flertando com o metal progressivo, no início achei dissonante com o estilo original da banda, mas tenho que admitir que to gostando bastante do rumo que a banda tá tomando. Eloy tá caminhando pra virar um Portnoy tupiniquim, um verdadeiro monstro na bateria, parabens pelo trabalho cara sensacional!
Acredito veemente que Eloy, ta caminhando pra ser o Eloy Casagrande identidade unica. Firmando sua propria assinatura como baterista, Se notarem ja tem muita coisa inserida na sua forma de tocar. O "muleke" é foda. Apreciemos essas obras.

Eu toco bateria, toquei vários anos em bandas de power metal, death metal e outros. Fiz um teste pra entrar em uma banda lá pra 2003 que se chamava Mr. Ego, eles gostaram de mim, mas o Eloy fez o teste também e conseguiu no meu lugar, ele tinha uns 15 anos. Jamais poderia competir com um rapaz que treinou com o Aquiles... mas não é tão simples assim, mesmo treinando com um ótimo professor, ele nasceu pra isso. Você é uma lenda Eloy! Sou muito seu fã, eu e meus amigos assistíamos vídeos seus aqui no RUclips desde 2006, de eventos que vossa senhoria participou e detonou. Você pra mim é o melhor baterista de todos os tempos, junto com Aquiles Priester.

The sound on this playthrough is actually way better than the one they put on the album. The drums here sound way more raw and organic than the one heard in the album, which I prefer.
Esses vídeos são foda d+, quando ouço o álbum após ver o vídeo da música, fico imaginando os movimentos minuciosos que não da pra perceber ouvindo a música. Após isso comecei a entender como os bateristas analisam uma música, eu sou guitarrista e já presto atenção em técnicas de slides, bend, two hands etc. Nem sabia que existia nota fantasma em batera, estou aprendendo tudo aqui com os vídeos e os comentários do povo.

I had the honor of seeing Sepultura live at The Paramount near my home in NY. As a drummer, who had never heard of Eloy, it was, how you say, life altering. Like the first time I saw Travis Barker. It made me both wanting to just give up the drums, and simultaneously, practice twice as much and twice as hard. Just phenomenal.
Joey? Jay? Ok… they made history. But now is the time for a great drummer. If the songs in slipknot were composed by Eloy, the band would be other level.

The sound on this playthrough is actually way better than the one they put on the album. The drums here sound way more raw and organic than the one heard in the album, which I prefer.

Esses vídeos são foda d+, quando ouço o álbum após ver o vídeo da música, fico imaginando os movimentos minuciosos que não da pra perceber ouvindo a música. Após isso comecei a entender como os bateristas analisam uma música, eu sou guitarrista e já presto atenção em técnicas de slides, bend, two hands etc. Nem sabia que existia nota fantasma em batera, estou aprendendo tudo aqui com os vídeos e os comentários do povo.

Probably the best Sepultura album in XXI century. IMHO off course.
I had the honor of seeing Sepultura live at The Paramount near my home in NY. As a drummer, who had never heard of Eloy, it was, how you say, life altering. Like the first time I saw Travis Barker. It made me both wanting to just give up the drums, and simultaneously, practice twice as much and twice as hard. Just phenomenal.
