BETTER Than the Parachute Adams!

  • The Klink Hammer is a fly pattern inspired by one of my all-time favorite flies, the Parachute Adams. However, it is often a better imitation for emerging insects because of how its body hangs back down into the water, whereas the Parachute Adams sits flat and is best used as a spinner. So, is the Klink Hammer always better? In some cases, yes, but as with everything else in fishing, it's highly situational.
If you haven't tried the Klink Hammer, I highly recommend adding it to your fly box. You can find several variations of it on my website.

Klinkhammer is a GREAT fly and can be fished larger than other flies. So you can often fish a size 12 Klink. When you might have to fish a 14 or 16 of another dry fly.

This fly was relatively unknown until it won the one fly contest on Wyoming/Idaho Snake River in the 80's. The bent curved hook allows it to sit further down into the surface water , but yet easy to be seen with the post and parachute hackle.

I use cdc fibers instead of a hen hackle. You take 3 cdc feathers in a clamp, split the thread en put them in. snip them off, twist the bobbinholder and there is your cdc hackle to wrap around the base. It has such a soft footprint on the water. I've even tied this on hooksize 24.

Having a range of colours for the post is a valid choice as different colours are more effective depending on light and water conditions. Surprisingly black is visable in dusk or when casting under a overhanging bush or bank. Or two contrasting colours in the post often work. One final twist with parachute patterns. Try after securing the hackle bring the thread towards the eye of the hook. Draw the hackle backwards with thumb and forefinger. Pull the post forwards and secure it at the head and then whip finish in front of the post. You now have a crippled emerger. The body now sits at an angle in the surface layer. Fish will often target that easy meal.

This is just a fly that we as fisherman already know about. Where I live in Scotland we make flies that no one has ever seen before and that’s the fly. You want to catch fish with not someone else’s creation but your own creation. Once I made a fly with my beard trimmings. It’s one of my favourite flies to use, I named it the beardy…🤷🏻‍♂️🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

I would do it as gently as I ppssibly could, but still the thread would just snap. Now that I live in North Idaho ilwant to get back into fly fishing and I would like to make my own flies using your videos, but I just think I suck at it

My grandfather once got hooks stuck in his shaggy carpet, And there was nothing really he could do about it other then break his brand new lead heads to save the carpet. But If he had done that we would of never known that the colors on that carpet made the best lure to ever grace the lakes.
We still have two surviving hooks last time I checked And my god Catch crappies when no crappies would be biting at all. Grandfather called it the crappie Carpet Ride, We make plastic tubes from the same design Not for sale We have given out a few when ever we are out and about. We get asked all the time too, And at first we play it off like it's a secret. Once we go to head for the day We walk over and hand out a few.

But once upon a time I could tie size 22 tricos that could get a 10 pound cranebow to blow up the surface for it..
Man I miss the big trico hatches on crane prairie reservoir.. it would rain 6-15 pound bows during a good evening hatch.

You can't fish catfish on a fly lure, while fly fishing, because catfish stay on the bottom of the lake almost 24/7, so they wouldn't really try to eat it. Also, most catfish live in muddy bodies of water, so with the opacity, they wouldn't see much of the fly.
