Thanks for the useful and innovative tips on parachute techniques. Parachutes are my favorite dry to fish, but least favorite to tie...until now.
One addition technique I've added: re-clamp the fly vertically in the vice after cutting the thread and before wrapping the hackle. Wrapping the hackle and applying the UV resin just got easier, especially with a rotary vice. With hackle pliers and gravity, there's no need to worry about keeping tension on the hackle while getting the UV resin ready. Just let the pliers hang free and used two hands to prepare and dab the resin. Letting the pliers hang while curing is also better for avoiding any movement during the cure. My pliers may be heavier than most, so you might have to hang a little extra weight on others.
Now I'm tying parachutes with fewer swear words and better results. Thanks for the tips; and I hope mine helps too.

Thank you Tim. This method looks very promising and I will use it at the first opportunity.

UV resin is the best thing to happen in fly tying since 2010 IMHO

That is a real neat method, which is perfect for a low viscosity resin like Solarez Bone Dry.
It would probably spiral down the Hackle stem, locking in not just the top but the whole stem itself down to the base.

Super tie. Tightline vids always make me feel dumb lol.

What a great method. One thumbs down must be a grumpy purist who doesn't like uv resin. Psssshh...

I used this technique for a while to knock out a bunch of parachute patterns for my box last year. In the end, I felt the glue to create the post and the glue to finish made the front of the fly more dense, the post too wide, and thus it didn't seem to land as well or as soft (before I'm asked, I commonly use a 12 foot Harvey leader at 5x through 7x). I also felt the post and the hackle didn't feel like they held floatant as well. Lastly, once I started tying smaller stuff -- like 20 to 26 -- the build up clearly effected the weight of the fly (though, if you are going for a drowned trico effect, that may not be a bad thing!). Completely being nitpicky -- as I fish some darn nitpicky fish and tailwaters -- but that has been my experience.

Thanks for the comments Christopher! Haven't tried this on smaller flies but I have been using this posting method for my larger (#8, #10) rough water and "hopper-dropper" flies with good results. For smaller flies, it might be an idea to use CA to anchor/stiffen the post and UV for the hackle. Cheers. Hank

You would have to post this neat little trick, and I just got some Bondic in the mail the other day too! Oh well, just one more way to skin a cat. With it being as cold as it has been, the Hendericksons are going to be a little late this year. That is a good thing, I can go pick up some things and have plenty of time to tie up a few of these. Superfine dubbing in Hendrickson Pink showed up in my mailbox too. Kidding aside, I don't think the amount of UV resin will matter with the weight of the fly. It looks like it will be a very durable way to do it. I have been doing the Charlie Craven trick, I pretty much use Solarez Bone Dry were ever I use glue.

Great video! What are the chances you could tie a Kossie dun by Mick Hall? I've been trying for a week now and just can't get the wings right!

What vise would you reccomend for a beginner who wants to get started? I would not tie anything bigger than a 2/0 or anything smaller than a 20

You can't go wrong with a Regal Medallion, well worth the investment.

Check out the line of Stonfo vices. I have half a dozen vices and have come to prefer my Stonfo. They are very well made and reasonably priced. Cheers, Hank

That's a tough call. I just got done guiding in the KLG and didn't see a one, just a few caddis (I'm guessing Grannoms). I did hear one report of Quill Gordons and Hendricksons on the Pequest last weekend but that's about it. This cold weather along with high water is really messing around with things, but no complaints.

tightlinevideo I agree the norwalk river near us is flowing real fast and was producing a dozen fish a day but now it's impossible to fish but there is some 3lb or 4lb brown trout roaming around as well as hatches they started to not be as intense.
