    I was born and raised in Chicago, but after working 12 years in the financial Industry regulating the futures and options markets at the CME/CBOT I decided to pursue my passion fishing professional tournaments and left my full time corporate job. At that point, I moved to Junction City, WI with my wife Sara and two boys Hank and Duke. I've been fishing professionally since 2011 and full-time since 2015. I've qualified for seven MLF Championships and won roughly a half million in tournament winnings at the professional level.

    This video reminded me of a bait they used to have in the old havoc line. It was the backslide from berkley and it really did flutter backwards on the fall. No modifications needed. Just Texas rig it weightless. I wish they still made it.

    First time I throw a flying lure to lay down, I watch it fly out of view , pump it once. BAM! 6lber grabs lure as it dives back in under limb. Fight was on! Had to be 25yrs ago or more, picture is still vivid in my mind. Nice to see idea come back around. Why not design a universal jig head that helps plastics dive/fly same directions as cast. Maybe a couple Berkley plastics designed with all features needed for best performance. Do it! Do it! Do it! Just sayin! Keep on!

    Hey Matt ...really surprised that you let this "gliding" technique out of the bag, but is a technique that can be more generally applied. .... for instance ....with a jig! ....not necessarily a backwards glider. but it's the gliding that makes it deadly! Not the prettiest as far as appendages and kickers, but using a chuck type trailer gives the jig an irresistible gliding motion. ... short 5/16 oz finesse jig with a tiny Zoom chunk was my go to, and would make 100's in a year time, and was all that I threw as far as jigs most of the year.

    • @MattStefanFishing
      @MattStefanFishing  2 года назад

    The gliding bait idea is a really good one I do it with a senko, by Texas rigging it weightless and then putting a nail weight at the bottom end of the Cinco when you flip it at the dock it will glide several feet underneath the dock it just keeps going straight back.

    Killer technique!!! I use my D Bombs the same way. Different hook & different weight. I've tried using a really light weight like a finishing nail and it works better. I always put scent on the bait before I cast. I'm not wanting to attract them, it doesn't work that way. I use it to mask the smell of human or anything that gives me away. Thank you for sharing

    Matt, ive seen similar backwards rigged craws used as punching baits, with the punch weight attached to the hook gap. I thought it was a pretty dope idea cause it streamlines the presentation and the weight always hits the matt pointy end first.
    I haven’t fished it extensively, but i think it gets through cover with slightly less weight and should give you a little slower fall, but most importantly the weight isn’t there to bust the fish’s mouth open. Would love to hear your thoughts

      Ive used them and have mixed feels. I like that the weight doesnt push through the fishes mouth but i also feel like its easier for the fish to shake the hook because the heavy punch weight is plling the hook backwards. But I have caught fish doing it.

      @@MattStefanFishing i also imagine it’s harder for them to pick the bait up to get the hook in their mouth the right way, the weight prevents them from just mouthing the plastic

    The “Flying Lure”…the squashed squid. I hated that thing. I could never get it to go where I wanted it to. I thought that the heads were too heavy. Jackall makes a Craw imitation called the Sasuteki Craw that you rig backwards. I’ve used it a few times, but only caught one fish on it.

    Great video on the glide bait Matt. I can’t wait to give it a try. Keep the great tips coming Matt. Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family 🦃

    Looks like a great bait for working down a steep bluff as well. How does come back to the boat? Is it a line twister?
