  • Hey guys,
    Here's an updated fountain pen collection video! I last did one of these 8 months ago and have since acquired some additions. If you have any questions about any pens please leave it in the comments and I'll do my best to answer them. I have been collecting for only about 5 years so this is not a huge collection but I do talk about each of the fountain pens and why I like or dislike it.
    Sorry this is a bit of a long video so please get a cup of beverage to enjoy :)
    Thank you for watching!

    Ahh your pens are all so beautiful! I love seeing people's fountain pen collections -- mine's getting more varied as time goes by, but I'm still keeping an eye out for new ones to add and it's always so helpful to hear your thoughts on the ones you have. Thank you for sharing them with us!

    Oooh! Pen chats! I love pen chats! Your rose taupe Sailor mini is so pretty! For drier inks in your Pelikan you could try inks by J. Herbin or Ink Institute, I've found both of them to be on the dry side. Thank you for sharing your pretty pens!

    It's always fun seeing other people's collections. My favorites are Edison pens with BENU pens probably being my next favorite brand. Both companies have a wide variety of models, you may want to consider them for the next addition to your collection.

    Indeed that parker 75 ciselé is one of your very special piece. Not to mention you had it as an heirloom. Not all comes with that particular converter. It can always be cleaned or serviced or maybe some of your relatives can. It’s all here on yt on how-to. I like your fp collection but that 75 on its current condition is superb. +1 subs here

    You and I have such similar taste in fountain pens! I only recently got into fountain pens (2- months ago), and I have 2 TWSBI Ecos, 2 Kaweco sports and 1 TWSBI diamond mini. I really want to get a Sailor fountain pen and Pilot Vanishing Point next. But I love your aesthetic so much.

    Love your collection. I feel like you and I have very similar tastes. My most recent purchase (also for my birthday) was the Pelikan M400 and I actually like how broad it writes! I also got the Esterbrook JR in Fantasia (as a giveaway prize) and the EF was so scratchy. I had to do a bit of work to try and smooth the nib out to the way I like it but it's getting there. I really want to get an E95S in a Fine nib. Such a classy looking pen. Thanks for this video!

    • @toxmot

      Oh yay! Happy belated! I guess if I write bigger, the pelikan nib wouldn't bother me as much. Glad you got the esterbrook jr to work better. It's so frustrating. Its definitely not the smoothest nib! Don't think I'll get another. Thx for sharing ☺️

    thank you so much for sharing this with us! lovely collection! question: does your gold nib sailor and the sailor lecoule.... are the caps/bodies all interchangeable? i have seen that the nib section of sailors are pretty much interchangeable across their whole brand. but i was wondering if the caps and bodies are as well. like.... can you screw the lecoule cap onto the body of your Pro Gear mini? and vice versa? i'd be interested to see a vid on that 😄

    Relating to the Parker 75. You can purchase the standard Parker cartridges and use those instead of the squeeze converter... Makes life a little easier

    • @toxmot
      @toxmot  2 года назад

      Thx, that's a great option. My pen is unfortunately too fragile because the squeeze converter is melted into the barrel. So I don't think it's removable without damaging the screw post. So I just keep it in my collection for now but I have inked it up a few times why no issues.

    Lovely collection. I would love to have a Pelikan in my collection next! Your Pelikan is gorgeous. I purchased my first Sailor last year and it is very scratchy so I'm apprehensive on purchasing another Sailor. The Pilot Custom 823 is my love right now and it writes so smooth. Like you, I have the Coconut Kaweco so I passed on the Pearl for the same reason. Thank you for sharing.

    • @toxmot
      @toxmot  2 года назад +1

      Oh no, that's so unfortunate about the sailor! Which sailor pen may I ask? Sounds like the nib you received is defective. Was it an EF nib?
      Glad I'm not the only one that skipped the pearl kaweco!! 👍👍👍

    • @BlushnBlue
      @BlushnBlue 2 года назад

      @@toxmot I have the 2021 Edition, and I purchased EF as that is my favorite nib. My Pilot Vanishing Point is definitely not as scratchy as the Sailor. The pen is gorgeous and the nib is gorgeous it's just not as smooth as I would like. Maybe EF is like that on all Sailors but this was my first so I cannot say. Thank you for your reply.

    • @ironmic9244
      @ironmic9244 2 года назад

      Sailors usually have some feedback. It shouldn't be scratchy though. Is it digging into the paper? Check the tines and see if there is a misalignment with a loupe, so then you can see if the problem is there.
      As for Pelikans, they are some of the smoothest nibs out there. Even the steel nibs are good, but the gold nibs are like writing on silk. They are also beautiful 2-tone visually pleasing nibs. Pelikan nibs also shade very well.

    • @BlushnBlue
      @BlushnBlue 2 года назад

      @@ironmic9244 I would say compared to my EF Vanishing Point it is scratching the paper. Oh, I cannot wait to try the Pelikan now...lol. I have to wait until Christmas for that price though. Thank you, I will try and look into it further. Perhaps I may have to send it away.

    • @ironmic9244
      @ironmic9244 2 года назад +1

      @@BlushnBlue Be forewarned that in my experience Pelikans write wetter and broader, and could account for that smoothness. So if you are an EF gal, which I am not on both accounts it might not be smooth as silk. I have an extra fine (steel), and it's nice, but has feedback, but it shades and sheens incredibly well for an extra fine, but not as smooth like the mediums and broads. Also be aware that Pelikan might be charging extra for an EF and stub nib. I think you'll enjoy Pelikans. They write well and look good, particularly the Souveran line.
      If a nib is digging into the paper, then it very well be misaligned tines. Good luck with it. Nothing worse than a nib that isn't writing and scratching the paper.

    Incase you didn't find out already...
    The last pen with the M on the cap.
    That's a Manuscript fountain pen made in England. They can cost anywhere from £3.50 to £120.
    The one you have could of cost around the £80 - £90 area. Roughly $110. But I'm not certain about price.

    • @toxmot
      @toxmot  2 года назад +1

      @@fumiscorner3793 I don't worry too much about ink drying out. If you do not use it frequently then yes it will get dried maybe after a month or two. Depends on the pen you choose and how full the ink cartridge is. If you don't use it much I recommend you buy the platinum prefounte. Its excellent cap sealing mechanism makes the ink not dry up.

  • @PensandPaint

    You should flush out new pens with pen flush. It will eliminate hard starts. Esterbrook pens are great as well as others. Dont be discouraged by your hard start issues stop try others.

    That’s so strange. You seem to have the worst luck with your nibs. Lamy, Pelikan, and Esterbrook have some of the more stringent standards when it comes to nib QC. Now Lamy and Esterbrook tend to be on the drier side, but no much drier than Kaweco nibs. Color me perplexed.

    • @toxmot
      @toxmot  Год назад

      Have come across many who have had issues with Lamy nibs and retailers are aware of Lamy nib issues. I recently bought another Lamy and I can feel the nib would smooth out more after some usage. Pelikan, my nib is thicker than my preference but I wouldn’t hold it against any issues with quality - it is a very high quality nib and pen. Esterbrook, runs dry but no other issues with the nib other than needing flushing out a few times for flow.

      Don't be mislead by other people, Sailor nibs are probably the best out there if you can handle the FEEDBACK (it's not the same as scratchiness but people tend to call both the same), us people that prefer finer nibs (in my case because my handwriting is small) usually prefer Sailor, their QA is awesome, out of my (so far) 6 Sailors only the High Ace Neo wasn't great right out of the box but that's a pen already known for lower QA.
      My advice is you should try before you buy, you might be surprised at how wrong those people are. Sailor wouldn't be so popular if that was the case.
