    Do grains pose any special advantage over legumes such as black beans?

      Both are part of a healthy diet! Whole grains are particularly high in B vitamins, and minerals like zinc, iron, magnesium, and manganese. Studies also suggest eating 3 servings of whole grains/day can have similar blood pressure lowering effects to medications. They seem particularly good at managing blood pressure, stroke risk, healthy cholesterol. But I would substitute one for the other! Include both every day, if you can.

      @@HealthyFamilyDoc irrational as it may be, i’m still a bit scared of grains, even whole grains. I’m still experimenting to see how it impacts my blood sugar. I’ve recently added lentils and beans back into my diet. Some mornings I wake up with 95-105 glucose and I don’t love that. I want to wake up with

      @@Seanonyoutube that’s fair! You have a strong goal in mind and are very focused to get there. If you do eventually try another grain I’d suggest steel cut oats even over whole rolled oats, amaranth or barely. Make the grain whole and use it as a small side for starters. Quinoa is a great first choice because it’s higher in protein.

      @@HealthyFamilyDoc i’m heading to the store to get some steel cut oats. I’ll try adding a small amount to my breakfast and see what happens.
