this worked for me on the vehicle with a brand new master cylinder. you can see the air bubbles and know it's working. Thanks so much!
I wanted to thank the creator of this video…and also share that while this didn’t work for me, what it did do was EQUALLY VALUABLE. I recently tried this method on the car (I saw this video after I installed my new master cylinder and didn’t want to remove it again). Doing this method allowed me to learn that one of the two ports on the new master (the rear) wasn’t machined/threaded properly. As I added vacuum pressure the brake fluid started bubbling, or percolating, so to speak. So I replaced the master again and still didn’t do a classic bench bleed on the new one…I installed on the car and did the Scotty Kilmer method of putting a pole between my seat and the brake pedal and going half way down on the pedal, loosening the lines just enough for fluid to come out (and air) and then tightening and releasing the pedal. I did that about 5 times and I have a great, hard pedal. But I wanted to give some positive feedback on this video since sometimes, even if something doesn’t work, it allows you to learn why it’s not working - especially for us DIY people who aren’t professional mechanics and want to save a few bucks on things we can probably do and not pay our private mechanics for. Thanks for the video and interesting method! I finally got my brakes figured out.

Thanks man great idea i install a master cylinder on 2001 astro van had a lot of problems because didn't bench bleed it, now i goin to have to find a way to build a seal cap for it.

the theory behind is that the air bubble will expand 15 times larger when you apply 15 psi vacuum. Really smart !
Why don't do it directly on car instead of pulling and putting the master cylinder on bench?

The reason why the piston is strong as can be as you say might be cause the outlet ports are capped off :(
def a clever idea and i just tried this on a dual res wilwood master, for some reason i can vac the front res but the rear only can go to 8 inches, very odd maybe there is a reason for this? anyway i plugged ports and then got the air out of the rear chamber by pushing a few times on pushrod, i still would like to know why it wont vac the rear reservoir more. Wilwood masters are notorious for having bench bleeding issues. havent installed yet so we shall see.

thanks so much, oz. another video on vw cps was helpful too. main reason i leave this is to say that many 'big time', corporate auto parts stores will rent you a bleeder kit. i got mine from advance here for like $77, -and i got like 45 days to bring it back and get the $77 back. so rent...
[btw, o'reilly's only gives you like 48 hours to bring it back before 'you bought it', but still plenty.]
as i get set to do this, i have a concern though. drilling through the rubber stopper will leave some roughed areas and i've always been told brake fluid should be kept super clean. i admit it's maybe no biggie, but you could end up with debris somehow falling off that drilled out rubber, even like tiny stuff that might not matter. i can't imagine a way to 'clean up' the drilled hole though, because any way you'd try to ream it might still leave a similar situation.
don't get me wrong, i'm goin' for it. i've never did this, and glad i found this trick [OZ!]!
there's one way to beat the 'particles' problem. someone has to patent and get one manufactured. then the hole would be made clean at the factory! but they'd need provide dif sized plugs & holes...

hey oz ,, i really want to try this,,, Some questions, Questions 1) Do you fill up the master cylinder with fluid ... 2) Did you plug the ports 3) In the video you said do this for five minutes,, but it looked like you did it in one minute. . Did you have to pump up the vacuum pump several times?
Does this work on an ABS master cylinder? (i can't imagine why not)

Having situation let someone borrow vaccume booster however had all adaptors came with new master cylender so question being wich adaptors to use for bleeding. Master ender since just bought new one?
GENIOUS! I see you responded to Bleeding it on the car in case one accidentally introduced air while bleeding. Do you think this would work while all the lines are attached or will it pull the Brake oil through the Rubber Stopper?

hey Oz. So you obviously had the port blocked off so I'm wondering why you need to do this in a vise and not have the master cylinder back on the car? You are doing the air evacuation through the top opening of the reservoir. I don't have a garage or a vise and would think that as long as the brakes lines are off and the ports are blocked all should be good. Is this ok or is it necessary to have off the vehicle?

Yes you can do it this way with the MC mounted on the car.
I installed a new MC on my car and I didn't know about bleeding the MC. I didn't want to remove it back again and tried this method and worked fine.

What do we do with all the exit point on master sulinder? Do we blank them or leave them open? Can this be done when everything assemble and inside the car.

at 1:17 Oz states he added Fluid. So add fluid. Like his clutch bleeding procedure you should be able to do this on the vehicle if you have an ABS system or not. I will try this on the 97 LX450 and 98 GMC Sierra SL 1500.

It WORKS!
You need 3/4 filled and make certain the rubber plug is completed sealed by using lube or a bit of brake fluid.
I actually saw bubbles, even after I bench bled ( yes a bit insecure but I had to get the job done either way ). As a matter fact if also took the air out of the ABS system, I heard the RUSH of the fluid passing by the brake lines.
I will do the rest of my cars and video WIZARD OZ's Technique.

How did you bleed the master cylinder when I did not even see brake fluid in it. Lol just pulling your leg.... I know it will force the air out... thanks, never thought of doing it this way. If this is true, you may be able to do it even if it is still in the car. Subscribed and liked.

+Oz Mechanics Hi Oz. I Liked and subscribed and plan to review previous vids. Really loved this mc bleed trick which I found after setting up the new one on the bench and levelling it. Mine has two filler caps so I'm thinking to plug one and vacuum the other. Is that right? If so, I cannot use the other cap, which has a breather hole unless I put plastic wrap between the cap and the reservoir?? Will that work or will I still need to pump? What vacuum is needed. My pump seems to stop at 11" Hg yet the gauge goes to 30" Hg. Is the pump ok? It didn't bleed down overnight when I plugged the tube and pumped to the max. Can this be done with it in the vehicle with the lines still connected? I had my master run dry and don’t really care to take it all the way out unless I have to? Thank you
as i said to other guy, i ain't done it, but my 'gut' says it works. you could try it first, and go back to other way if it don't. but rent a bleeder tool like this from auto zone, ect.! rubber stoppers in most hardware stores in all sizes.
Just to b clear..stick in the vacuum hose and pump to about 17 or 18 psi hold that for five minutes and release,right? So it should work if u plug up the ports while still on the car right?! Some one asked but u didn't answer. Great idea!! I haven't seen that on utube at all!
Enrique Escate I read an article a couple of yrs ago on how to do it on the clutch master cylinder. So I tried it on the brakes and it worked the same way

how did you plug up the ports? the more info the better?
most master cylinders come with ports. if not they sell kits at autoparts stores
thank you. i was just testing mine and could not find auto parts store that sold just the "ports" you mentioned, and store was out of plug/bolts. so i used a pair of bleeder valves. can also use some old brake lines with values and bend them back into mc to bleed.
so u don't know if it will work? The reasin I asked was because I wanted 2 try and bleed my old brake master cylinder on the car to see if there was an improvement so that I maybe wouldn't have to buy a new one

what did you do to the lines you didn't explain how you or what you did with the lines were they blocked or in fluid please explain. i liked video but you need to show more
i have a 2004 BMW 645ci with Anti lock brakes. Will this work the same. someone advised i had to take it to a dealer to bleed the brakes.
A Co I would say. This form you are just vacuuming out the brake system and eliminating all air from it

How does this work? I see no fluid. How is fluid getting into piston area? How is air not coming back in through ports? Either I am seriously lost or the video is losing some details.

you gotta bleed the master cylinder
you still have air in the system somewhere probably master cylinder. did you bleed the brakes farther away wheel first to the nearest to the master cylinder as well
firs state how much suction needed for 5 min. and show the line cut offs used as well, and tell them it is full of break fluid.
i think he did say it had brake fluid in it but very fast. and he does need to explain a little slower .....and in a little more detail......
donth go over 20 in of vacuum or you may pull a seal and air like i did, from one of slave cylinders i used the motive 250 kit adathers on my astro van my problem was my drums had a lip on the outside edge, and the automatic adjuster was not working with the start.
Are you aware that those seal endure a lot of pressure when ever you press the brake pedal
Thats what a was thinking too, not sure were I vacuum the air from but i hand to back bleed my system now my brakes work perfect afther 3 year of trying to fix it.

Well you lost me! There is no fluid in the cylinder that I see. The idea is to purge the new fluid in the cylinder. Not just evacuate air in the chambers. This would work anyway as the seals are designed to manage fluid..NOT air. So...what do I know.

hummm...We watched you the entire video and could not determine if the Master Cylinder was plugged or attached to a supply of brake fluid or what. If you simply created a Master Cylinder with a vacuum; what happen when you go to connect the lines? It would be good if we looked at the parts you are working on so we can see what we need to see for ourselves in case you do not explain something. After all you never really know what cause us to look at your video. Ex I wanted to see if you used a vice with wood or cloth, but …. Thanks

But don't ask them for a "vacuum gauge." Ask for a hand-operated vacuum pump kit.
yo, you can RENT them from same guys said above, rent a tool. shop the corporates...
rent the vacuum pump at advance auto, ect. pay for it, bring it back, -money back!
