  • Playing along to the song "Super-Natural" from the album "A Hard Road" by John Mayall and the Bluesbreakers. This song was written by and features Peter Green on guitar. Peter Green is one of my all-time favorite guitar players. He plays with so much emotion and soul, and his sound is unmistakable. This version of the Bluesbreakers included Peter Green and John McVie (bass) who formed the original (and my favorite version of) Fleetwood Mac. The drummer is Aynsley Dunbar, who played drums with just about everybody (Frank Zappa, Journey, Jefferson Starship, Whitesnake, and many others). I became a fan of Peter Green's guitar playing and singing after hearing the original Fleetwood Mac on Detroit radio in the early 1970s, songs like "Green Manalishi", "Oh Well", "Black Magic Woman", etc. On this song you can hear the template for the sound of the original Mac, especially the song Black Magic Woman which was written by Peter.
On the record, the snare drum is played with the snares disengaged, and mallets are used instead of drumsticks. Since this is an electric drum kit with no actual snares to turn off and mallets are not recommended for e-kit mesh heads, I looked for a pre-set drum kit that would sound close to a mallet sound. The one I used was called "Jazz Brushes". I wasn't crazy about the cymbal sound in "Jazz Brushes" though. I did two takes of the song and went with the second one. Video recorded Saturday evening, November 23, 2024.
