I hope this video helps someone who is about to embark on one of most challenging paths of their creative career. I wish I had this information when started out but I'm grateful I can share my experience now, and hopefully this will make someone's journey less strenuous. I break down all the costs of launching a clothing brand in this chit chat video. xx Kim Dave
If there's anything I've learned from Project Runway, it's that just making the clothes is not nearly enough for a fashion brand to get off the ground. Thanks for breaking it down!
This is the only fashion YouTub channel that gives all the details...I love the fact that she teaches us every thing we need to learn in the fashion business....lots of love from Uganda 🇺🇬🇺🇬🇺🇬
Thanks so much for this. It's amazing. I'd like to know more about the clothes worn by the models. Do you give it to them FOC? Or do you give it to them and deduct it from their charges or something? In short, what happens to the clothes? Thanks
oh no. The models wear the samples for the photo or video shoot, and I keep them afterwards. These samples are often loaned to stylist, celebrities or anyone who wants it for a shoot or event.
Hi Kim, thanks for this video. please, can you talk about handling fashion business and still working 9-5 when your 9-5 is your source of financial freedom to run your brand. thanks
Thanks for the information. I want to start my own small business in fashion in Lagos. But I need you as my mentor. I need patterns , where to get quality fabric. How to contact you one on one.
Hi i need some advice from you and i hope you don't mind I have to launch my first collection and I don't want to hire a model. I want to show my clothes or pieces at Fashion Mannequin Would you please give me some advice, would it be helpful or should I change my mind?
You can definitely show your pieces on a model. However the reason why it’s important to put the clothes on a human body is because that gives the clients an idea of how it fits on the body
Hello Kim Dave, I was not trained as a fashion Designer but an accountant. I subscribed and started following you last year during the COVID lock down in Ghana. I started learning from you and I developed so much interest in fashion designing. I need coaching. Can I have your personal email address or contact for some personal discussion. Thank you
I have been thinking of starting a clothing line. Planning is definitely key which I realize I haven't figure out well enough. All thanks to you. I'll like you to talk about machines I can get for my startup business on low budget. Thank you
glad to know you are taking your time planning your clothing line. As for machines, you can invest in an affordable domestic sewing machine or an industrial sewing machine. it all depends on your budget
I'm just starting to learn to sew, and the main reason is that, as a big guy and there does seem to be an lack of patterns and options for men of my size (5xl). My options are sweatpants, blue shirts and black pants. So if I was going to go into business it would be a "side hustle." I wonder if there might be a video in how to work a fashion business as a side gig vs a full time job.
Hi Tony. It's amazing that you are taking up the challenge of creating pieces for big guys. There is definitely a market for this. I thankfully never had to transition from a full time job to my side hustle. However what helped me when I was working part time in retail and my building my side hustle, I would plan the things I wanted to get done for my side hustle way in advance. This way I avoided feeling overwhelmed or stressed.
It depends on how much work you have and the frequency of it. If you have a steady stream you of orders then it might be worth paying them per hour but if you have less work that require more time to construct, then per piece might be better. But the choice is yours to make 😊
Hello love, thanks for sharing this video, I have a mind in creating my clothing line but the problem i have is how am going to sell it and how to price it,can you advise me on how to price and how to get customers? Thanks in advance

Am about to hire a freelance machinist. Is paying by hour better than piece work?
