From personal experience, I’ve discovered that one of the most challenging aspects about working for myself is making decisions without knowing the outcome. “Should I work with an influencer?” “Will it be worth it to do a pop up?” “Is this the right fabric for my target audience?” “Should I make this garment in multiple colour ways?” The risk and uncertainty of it all can be mentally draining. This is just one of the many things I wish I knew before starting the Kim Dave journey. In my new video, I share six other things I wish I knew before I started my fashion business. Do you know anything else that we business owners should be aware of? Share below....
When I was studying contemporary dance a well-known choreographer told us the hard truth that on a good day half of her time was in the studio with the dancers and the other half was in the office. But often she would have to spend weeks just working on grant submissions, contracts for tours, etc,..The sooner you realize that there is a lot of paperwork, even in creative work, the better.
Thank you for not hiding any knowledge from your followers. You are simply the best. Wish to meet you someday. Always inspiring me and there is truth in all you said. Keep it up
Thank you Kim for this video. I can agree with everything you say. I have been in the fashion business for over 20 years and It has taught me some real lessons. Keep learning and growing. You are an inspiration for many people including me.
I'm an industrial clothing design and construction student in Zimbabwe, and yes some of the things you said, our lectures are preparing us for that, telling us It's more than just creativity and we don't appreciate it because the theory subjects such as Marketing, Purchasing and Research are boring but after listening to this , I will study hard and not only focus on designing and sewing. It's a long ,tough road ahead. Thanks Kim Dave.
I am fashion designer /small business owner and I didn’t take recording my expenses and income seriously , it makes so much sense now.Really learnt a lot from this video .Thank you Kim Dave❤️
Today I just tried designing a fabric print with my laptop and I must say it is draining ...thanks alot This is encouraging in as much I am not launching now..I believe I am in the right track with all you mentioned here
Thank you sis for discussing these important issues in business. The part you said about getting help/assistance in your business, especially in clothe making. It's something I have challenge with doing everything alone. But like you said, even if it means paying to get that assistance, just do it, because it's part of the investment in your business and it's makes the work faster. I have even started a course on bookkeeping to help me in my business. 😁
Thanks, Kim!... I like the way you connect with your audience...I’m just starting out. Is there a business plan template I can start with for fashion business?
Hi dear girl! You are absolutely amazing beautiful soul!!! Thank you so much for making those videos and I wish you best luck, we will support you during the process as a community ♡ ♡ I had one question I wanted to ask you after watching your video for the coasts.- what is this ecosystem of ''retails vs wholesales' I am new and everywhere I am seeing designers avoiding retails as much as possible due to the low prices. Do you have any video recorded about this topic or do you plan to shoot one by any chance? Sending a lot of good energy to you and your path lovely soul!!! ♡
Your words are really tru. Seriously without all u hv lined up. One will just be sewing sewing sewing no gain. Thank u. Again pls. Talk on complex. Most tailors are looked down on due to insults and blames from customers making one almost feel like giving up the job.
This is so true...I plan to launch my first collection but am pretty worried about the designs ,fabrics to use, target market and what not...eishhh but with your advice i will definitely just take note and see what happens..
my dear, I can personally relate to all your worries. It's a normal thing because you are about to take a risk and the outcome is unknown. Just believe in your work, refine it as much as possible and have a marketing strategy to sell your designs before you launch
This is so precious. Thank you so much for sharing. biko lez be friends :). Literally stumbled on your channel trying to find better ways of making a zipper fly for shorts and i have been hooked! love your vibe. sounds like you like to have a good laugh lol

How do you go about protecting your brand's designs
In most countries, you can apply for design rights which protects you from being copied
