The tensioner being on the right hand side and the direction he pulled doesn't make sense to me.... Surely he would be adding more cable to the lever... Which btw is on the opposite side of the car....?? I get that the slack would be getting taken away from the catch but just adding it to the lever doesn't compute as to where the slack actually went... Anyway this i think will prove to be helpful either way... You've given me an idea I came here because my bonnet catch pulls all the way back and wont open the bonnet... I fitted some new headlights which I think may be applying some awkward pressure to the bonnet and a radiator... It was getting dark so I didn't fill the radiator and shut the bonnet hoping to carry on the next day... So I had an empty cooling system and a locked bonnet and a DVLA notice under my wiper....
Another top ‘how to’ vid mate, used your one on my Zafira when a little plug had been left out by Vauxhall technicians when the car was recalled, watched your vid, had a look and put the plug back in myself and straight away my AC was working again. These vids are priceless, well done mate
@@retrorestore Martin, your videos give us normal fellas with a basic tool kit a bit of hope in fixing a problem without having to go to a main dealer where we know we’ll get killed by labour rates etc, well done pal, keep it up
Proper engineer. My tutor was ex REME he wouldn't hesitate to make ancillary parts himself. First morning in the garage he asked me a question. " Driving along and your rear wheel overtakes you. All wheel nuts are gone, what would you do?" Answer: take one nut off the other 3 wheels and have three nuts on all wheels. Took me a while to work that one out.
Thank you Martin, you may have just solved a puzzle for me as i have a similar issue with my Nova. Everytime i open the bonnet i fear the handle is going to break. Im going to try this method over the weekend.
Thanks for sharing this one Martin my neighbor has got the exact problem with her vauxhall tigra which is basically a corsa so i will be investigating it with what i have learnt from you you are a star Martin 👍👍👍👍
Nice video Martin that's another job completed on the astra mk4 I think I learned something from this I had a mk4 astra in red 10 years ago and I didn't know u could do that for a bonnet pull so thanks for that trick Martin I appreciate it keep up your good content and keep working hard
The one on the Audi had been broken for Around a year. I got one out of a scrap one in the scrapyard lucky it was new lol. Nice one mate good Fix Martin I don't know if I will make the buttlers empire premier tonight been having really bad internet it's supposed to be fixed by 5 pm tomorrow am on mobile data right now. 👌👍
Very useful video Martin. Isn't it sod's law with the replacement cable. Just fitted a drivers window switch that controls the passenger side as well. The replacement one I think was for a left hand drive. At least the drivers window works again. Take care
You are living proof of the old adage Martin, Necessity is the mother of invention!
This video will help a lot of people to think outside the box!

Nice easy fix, be worth modding the title to give the vehicle details so it pops up if folks are searching for Vauxhall Astra Mk4 bonnet catch 🙂
We put that in the video description so it should rank for that term.
@@retrorestore So it does :)
