Very cool spot. We stopped there on our way to Palm Springs area. Just to get a bit of gas. Paid over $7 a gallon but we didn't know how much more desert to go before 29 Palms. Our GPS wasn't working LOL. We also bought a coffee and a coke. Quite a surreal experience but very memorable!
We drove the road from Ludlow to Amboy over those old bridges with our 26,000 lb motorhome towing our CRV. We didn’t really think about the weight limit on the bridges until we were already over them. Don’t think we will risk that again either! Loved the old Route 66 painted on the road though and Roy’s Motel.
Been by Roy's but not stopped. We stay on the opposite entry from 29 Palms on the BLM land just on your way into the South entry. We tried staying in the park once with our 30' tt but the spots were just too tight & short. The camp loop roads are so narrow I was afraid someone would hit us; so we went below on the BLM land. You can get water & dump just inside the park there as well for a nominal fee. Just North of you in Zzyzx (yes it's spelled correctly)at Hwy 15 & Hwy 127 is the Tallest Thermometer in the World, so they claim.
This is our 4th time camping in Belle Campground; there are a few sites that can take us, but we have to scout the traffic ahead as the road is narrow in spots. The rate is pretty good at $15 a night; used to be $10. www.loveyourrv.com/our-return-visit-to-beautiful-joshua-tree-national-park/
North of the thermometer in Baker there is free camping on a dry lake bed and for a small fee at Dumont Dunes www.loveyourrv.com/2022-23-rv-snowbird-trip-march-update-death-valley-area/
