I got top 32 in every tournament I've went to. The fact that only up to 24 people attend these tournaments may have something to do with it, but still.
That's fitting, considering he earned his reputation for his ability to ask the right questions to force the witness into a corner, catching them in a trap made of their own lies.
I love 2 things about this video: 1. The 'Attorney Advice' boxes were in character 2. The Judge's gavel slammed down the instant the tutorial was over.
+ljaquos PW gets an 85% damage boost in level 3 X-Factor, but Haggar gets 90%, and Hulk and Thor get 100%, so Wright doesn't actually get the biggest damage buff, and overall, characters like Vergil, Wesker, and Akuma make better use of X-Factor. Don't get me wrong, though. An 85% damage boost is definitely something to be very afraid of.
+Paulunatr Actually, Phoenix Wright gets an 85% damage boost, yes, but his level 3 is special. It actually gets a double damage buff. It has another interesting property, too. Regardless of you XF level, Ace Attorney will always deal double damage. The only reason this doesn't apply to level 1 XF is because it runs out faster than the cinematic can finish.
OBJECTION! There is a contradiction in this video! It's stated in this video that unless the opponent is blocking or is in an invincible state, Wright's level 3 will hit them no matter what. When in fact, if one of the opponent's assists is onscreen when Wright's level 3 is activated then the hyper won't work. TAKE THAT!
I'm really glad you enjoyed all the little details that ultimately took just as long to put into the video as the big things. It definitely makes it all worthwhile, so thank you!
Same with me. "Let see what games are here to get." "Ultimate Marvel Vs Capcom3. Nah not Interested in thi-" **Sees Phoenix Wright** "..." **Goes to the PSN Store and Buy UMvC3**
I spent weeks slowing down the footage of every combo and adding a little button icon for every move used with exact timing. The video can also be paused if you need to look over the inputs. Sorry, but I'm not going to re-type all of it again in a way that has less clarity into the already over-bloated video description.
Thing is, he isn't a Nintendo character, PWAA is Nintendo published, true, but it's a Capcom game overall. Sad. But, then again, Sonic and Pacman are in SSB4, so who knows?
Anyone who thinks the character was a waste of a character slot and DEMANDED a different one... Learn to have fun, once in a while! Phoenix is awesome for just some casual fun of someone trying to mess around in the game. Once you get his specials down and understand the evidence system, you can start just dancing around with the Ace Attorney in matches! Honestly, very few characters offer the same 'whimsical fun' that Phoenix Wright provides as a fighter. And heck, if by the end, you still like him and want to use him seriously, adamant that it can be done, well... That's what this tutorial is for; those who really, REALLY want to give him some use.
smartboy201 I would imagine that, if Phoenix himself found out he made an appearance in this game, he would probably be extremely flattered, then kind of depressed that he's terrible, and then howling with laughter once he realizes how badass he is when you figure him out. Also, he'd probably find his own antics rather accurate depictions of his daily life.
I have a way to buff Mr. Wright! It's where bad evidence that are discarded in Investigation Mode, it will always do something. Donut/Chocolate/Hamburger: Restores 5K, 7.5K, and 10K respectively Bomb: Explodes after three seconds, can hit Wright Servbot: Flies down from a balloon, and then marches into the opponent Oil Drum: Spills oil that slows down characters and inhibits traction, combusts if it's hit with a fire attack Springboard: Launches anyone who steps on it, unblockable and can hit Wright Black Hole: Directs gravity, Wright is affected less than the opponent Meteors: After three seconds, drops 12 meteors on the opponent
This is from far the best tutorial for Phoenix Wright! The moves are well explained, with the imput buttons on screen. You talk smooth and paused so anyone who is not fully fluent on english can understand. Those PW songs on the background of the explanations and the best of course is the attorney advices! Total respect for this video!!
Awesome stuff. It's becoming more clear how to explain how Phoenix Wright should be played as time goes on and more people get a hang of it. I'm very glad you found the video useful bro
Ten years later and this is still the best character breakdown in fighting game history. I don't play MvC3 much, but kudos to you man, for playing characters that you love, not characters that can give you free wins. (Though turnabout Wright is low-key God Tier haha).

You're welcome. And as a fellow fan of the PW games I wish you luck on learning your ways around the game's mechanics. They're not all that obvious at first.
I really wonder why an "average" defense attorney is on the streets duking it out with ginormous, super-powerful, and larger-than-life characters. Pretty hilarious when you think about it.
maya is a super otaku/pshycic and I assume she convinced him to do this for positive PR for their firm. but in reality something from the spirit world said they are the only hope or something.
*HOLD IT!* Ms.Evelyn... Phoenix is not a pacifist by these terms. icekingdumb101 Actually I'm staying away from every AA game right now so I can forget their plots and replay them in the future! This video... was too interesting to pass by.
I recently got my first arcade stick and picked up a copy of UMvC3 and have been having fun. I really wanted to play Phoenix but couldn't get a handle on how he played and then I stumbled across your video. I can now play Phoenix better than before, I may still be learning the Stick but I'm having a blast playing Phoenix now and its thanks to your awesome tutorial!! Thank so very much!!
I must be really stupid... have not played once since last EVO and I'm gonna participate again. It's good that this video is still here, it can let me relearn the basics a second time. Lythero, I still thank you for teaching me all of this 3 years later.
When you're fighting she hulk or super skrull, be ready for loads of command grabs. You can use this to your advantage though. Try jumping back for a bit so that they don't just run in trying to grab you, then call maya's shield, but instead of hiding behind it, just jump towards them. They'll often go for a command grab once they see the shield, and then they'll be wide open for attack. Don't bother trying to grab Zero. Just wait for him to air teleport over Maya and hit them on the way down.
What a foolishly foolish observation which could only have been foolishly made by a foolish fool such as yourself, though even such a foolish fool as yourself could notice the foolishness this video's foolish creator made in his foolish foolishness
It's been mentioned so often. Y'know why? It's cause Edgeworth's got better theme's than Phoenix Wright. THAT'S RIGHT, I SAID IT. EDGEWORTH'S THEMES ARE MILES BETTER.
I always thought so too. It's actually kind of hard to notice, it took me about three or four watches of this video 'til I found out. 'Wanting to Find the Truth' has always been my favourite theme. And I realized something else. Your profile picture is Viewtiful Joe, your highest combo is with Dante and you made a Phoenix Wright tutorial video. Your channel explains everything about those three characters and you play as them in your team ;D
***** It certainly could be. But the real point here is, I have Professor Layton vs Phoenix Wright. And you probably don't, because it's not out where you live. HAAAAAAAAHAHAHAHAHA.
Nice! I'm glad you found the video helpful! And haha, don't worry about it. I still occasionally get perfected. Sometimes you just forget the fact that you haven't so much as landed a chipping blow and it's already over.
I didn't add the AJ characters, because Phoenix Wright is still a lawyer. Kay didn't meet Phoenix in Miles Edgeworth Investigations, but she was in the same "time" as him. Kay did at least see Phoenix Wright though, when her and Miles are going over a bridge, you can see Phoenix, Maya and Pearls in a boat nearby. I messed up with Ema though :C I prefer her older, grumpy self. If I make another tutorial I'll probably include those characters, but I really wish Capcom made Hobo Phoenix an alt.
That's probably why so few people use him. Wright is terrible in laggy conditions since he requires a lot of immediate decisions every second, and very precise inputs if you're trying to do a flashy combo. If the connection isn't stable, then you have no choice but to flail on the ground and pray that you get evidence and turnabout mode before your inevitable death. Glad you found the video helpful though!
Oh dear. You should check out the move list in the pause menu and do some of Phoenix Wright's missions in mission mode. Then when you manage to get to around mission 9 you should be ready to check out the video and learn some of the combos here. As for your question: You summon Maya's shield by doing a quarter circle forward (as in down, down-forward, to forward) and then press the light attack button.
So, here's a resume of what happened to me a few hours ago: - Watch this video before heading out to do stuff because I needed to burn up time and it popped into my recommendations - Go to do business, after finishing I went to a local arcade place nearby where they got consoles with fighting games - Picked up UMvC3 and start playing on training mode - Started doing the combos on the video almost naturally (at least the ones I remembered) - Some local "fighting gurus" said I'm using their favorite spot, wanted me to go away - I refuse since is the last console available , then some random guy said we "Let our fist do the talking" in UMvC3 - Both agreed, those guys and spectators were smiling like psychopaths - Didn't know what characters to pick aside from Wright, I chose him alongside Zero and Chris - One of the guys sits and chooses Dante, Wesker and Sentinel, his smile was even creepier and everyone was staring at me - Quickly he takes down both Zero and Chris only with Sentinel as if it was nothing, Wright is left - Start popping out combos like crazy, happy birthday Sentinel and Dante, only Wesker was left - I took quite the beating dropping into like 15% of HP, breakaway and then Objection! and activate X-Factor - Do a bit of a combo to set up Ace Attorney and won, everyone look up on me, then started to being called a cheater by everyone - I leave the place, not before I say "Just accept it dude, you lost to a rookie, and if I "were cheating", which I'm not, you could as well, since it is your favorite spot, right?"
So even as a complete rookie you brought yourself back from the brink of an extremely embarrassing beatdown from someone more experienced in the thing you both are doing and even managed to turn the tables on them and defeat them, to everyone's surprise? You really are channeling the power of Phoenix Wright.
Everyone has their own preferences. Making the controls "L, M, H, S" allows people with a custom configuration a chance to figure out how to make the tutorial work for themselves. The buttons are colour coded towards the default xbox buttons too (L = Blue X button, M = Yellow Y button, H = Red B button, S = Green A button). This way, any edjit could understand it. Well... -almost- any edjit, apparently.
An elegantly edited video, a soothing voice, and information that most people won't know about a niche character. This is a great tutorial here, I commend you for your dedication and patience. The information about Phoenix specific traits was so useful it made me consider picking this game back up. I didn't think that could happen, so I thought you should know!
"Maya organizes the happiest of birthdays, take advantage of them." Seriously, she throws the best parties, burgers and Steel Samurai marathons for all.
I think Trials and Tribulations is probably the best one, but you only experience the games once properly. And I'll never forget the first one. So my favourite would be the first one.
The five dislikes keep me up for 5 more hours at night where I sob in the corner, unable to sleep. Then I give myself 1,471 (and counting) slaps to the face for being so silly.
Yeah, I noticed. If I were to make another video continuing any of this tutorial business that'd be one of the things I'd mention. It's always best to pick up another piece before getting rid of bad evidence simply because it seems more likely to work. Evidence is a convoluted system. I wish I knew how it worked.
That little laugh at 16:40 is legit intimidating. Helps that he just evaporated Thor with one combo. Great video over-all. It's way past my skill-level, but still informative to watch, and all the details - from tiny Maya, to the inventively-named combos, to the in-character Attorney Advice - were extremely entertaining.
My tutorials bring all the pros to the Tubes, And they're like; "This is nice and all but Phoenix Wright's still shit, dude." ... Not sure where I was going with that.
I use a pad, but a tip that should help you: change your dash button to just L+M, not L+M+H. If your dash includes a H input, then you'll find it harder to dash and follow up with a H attack, as the attack won't come out if you're still holding down dash. I do hope that helps.
***** ... Your joke makes no sense. What's the significance of bringing up a correlation between a cult mystery game and an underrated mystery game? And please don't tell me it's another one of those damned "Illuminati Confirmed" jokes.
Watching all the Lobby Shenanigans and your videos year after year with Phoenix just makes me want to learn this character after my hiatus from this game. Super useful tutorial even 12 years later thank you Lee!
Their lobby shenanigans are awesome, I'm trying to learn how to play with Phoenix Wright and viewtiful joe only and exclusively because of the videos 😂 Srr for my English, I'm not a native speaker
I figure having the video show whether or not PW's in the air, or on the ground, will be enough for the viewer to suss it out. If you're having to write the inputs down first, then I can see where your gripe is, but the input is the same regardless of where he is, so it made far more sense not to clutter the screen with icon over-saturation. Thanks by the way, the graphics and animation took far longer than the tutorial did.
Thanks for the kind words! Though the problem with the evidence combos would be that I'd need better assists for such feats. Sadly, I'm not so keen on dropping Viewtiful Joe or Dante for Spencer, She Hulk or Doom/Strange.
If you're using Dante's Jam session, then use it to get to Turnabout mode. Use it while collecting evidence, and if you've got everything sorted, try to use Jam Session to push the opponent back into the corner. If they get cornered, use Maya's Hyper, and follow up with a small unblockable. What works best for me is Maya Hyper, followed by a forward medium overhead and then a launcher. This means they'll have to block high/low really fast to block maya. If you connect with S, object in the air.
I've noticed some folks getting out of it too. I can't say how to fix this without looking into it, but you can probably make it trickier by using paperwork to keep them in place, or do some high/low attacks while Maya's attacking to make it a bit harder on them.
Just make sure Maya's out at the same time, and keep an eye out for people who are going on for the attack. Sometimes just taking advantage of people throwing attacks when maya's out is just as important as getting evidence.
I don't see it as much of a problem at all. The music seemed to go quite well in time with the animation that I had in mind, and I figured it worked out fairly well... It's not like we're going to get Edgeworth in UMvC3 any time soon.
You're not doing it fast enough. The Investigation Hold It combos usually take too long as well, but it's absolutely possible to stun someone with 4 hold its in Investigation Mode.
Try delaying the hold it ever so slightly after you jump. this'll give you more time to get back to the ground. I wouldn't feel too bad about it though, it's not that useful a combo and is definitely more tricky than it's worth.
Same. I just stumbled upon the video, but the production and effort (not to mention insight) of the video was interesting enough to get me to watch it all the way through. Strong work brother.
They're not exclusive, but it's difficult to tell how many more Hold Its you'll need. Think of it like this (Not in any way accurate, just an example). In order to get a stun, you need to hit an opponent with 100 stun points (SP). The amount of SP constantly deteriorates. Investigation Hold It: 30 SP Trial Hold It: 45 SP Turnabout Hold It (Objection): 80 SP While these figures are just baseless conjecture, all of the questioning attacks accumulate over the different stances, of that I'm sure.
I got top 32 in every tournament I've went to.
The fact that only up to 24 people attend these tournaments may have something to do with it, but still.
It took me a minute of realization ☠️💀☠️

This kinda reads like a Skulduggery Pleasant joke I wonder if Lythero ever read that back in the day.
Wait... Did anyone else notice how something like half of his strategy involves /cornering his opponent/?
+JavisSariahal That's...actually perfectly fitting for Phoenix....huh.

I love that Phoenix has the biggest X-Factor boost of the cast. Because a lawyer is someone who keeps on smiling no matter how bad it gets!

Turnabout mode + X Factor lvl 3 = Start running!

I died when phoenix said "take that" and the opponent just got ko'ed lmao!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
still better than Dan signing a autograph and throwing it
Phoenix Wright is MILES (edgeworth) Better then Dan!
Phoenix Wright > Dan Habiki
That's probably why so few people use him. Wright is terrible in laggy conditions since he requires a lot of immediate decisions every second, and very precise inputs if you're trying to do a flashy combo.
If the connection isn't stable, then you have no choice but to flail on the ground and pray that you get evidence and turnabout mode before your inevitable death. Glad you found the video helpful though!
Finally able to play UMvC3 fully thanks to it being on PC, and now I can finally watch this video and learn. Thanks Lythero!
Classic Lythero.
Gonna need Lythero Generations
Maybe, but not for a long time. Which is just as well, since I keep learning new things about him every once in a while.
So, here's a resume of what happened to me a few hours ago:
- Watch this video before heading out to do stuff because I needed to burn up time and it popped into my recommendations
- Go to do business, after finishing I went to a local arcade place nearby where they got consoles with fighting games
- Picked up UMvC3 and start playing on training mode
- Started doing the combos on the video almost naturally (at least the ones I remembered)
- Some local "fighting gurus" said I'm using their favorite spot, wanted me to go away
- I refuse since is the last console available , then some random guy said we "Let our fist do the talking" in UMvC3
- Both agreed, those guys and spectators were smiling like psychopaths
- Didn't know what characters to pick aside from Wright, I chose him alongside Zero and Chris
- One of the guys sits and chooses Dante, Wesker and Sentinel, his smile was even creepier and everyone was staring at me
- Quickly he takes down both Zero and Chris only with Sentinel as if it was nothing, Wright is left
- Start popping out combos like crazy, happy birthday Sentinel and Dante, only Wesker was left
- I took quite the beating dropping into like 15% of HP, breakaway and then Objection! and activate X-Factor
- Do a bit of a combo to set up Ace Attorney and won, everyone look up on me, then started to being called a cheater by everyone
- I leave the place, not before I say "Just accept it dude, you lost to a rookie, and if I "were cheating", which I'm not, you could as well, since it is your favorite spot, right?"
Iván Felipe Bañuelos Lamas wow, what a TURNABOUT :P
They'll be sore for a while after that. Sounds like you've found a keeper for thrashing them.
So even as a complete rookie you brought yourself back from the brink of an extremely embarrassing beatdown from someone more experienced in the thing you both are doing and even managed to turn the tables on them and defeat them, to everyone's surprise?
You really are channeling the power of Phoenix Wright.
That sounds like the case of the first case of Phoenix Wright. You must've been channeling his spirit.
ALL HAIL PHEONIX WRIGHT!
Well... -almost- any edjit, apparently.
n... n... nine years ago?
it hasn't been that long, has it?
An elegantly edited video, a soothing voice, and information that most people won't know about a niche character. This is a great tutorial here, I commend you for your dedication and patience.
The information about Phoenix specific traits was so useful it made me consider picking this game back up. I didn't think that could happen, so I thought you should know!
"Maya organizes the happiest of birthdays, take advantage of them."
Seriously, she throws the best parties, burgers and Steel Samurai marathons for all.
I-FREAKING-LOVE-PHOENIX-WRIGHT-NO-HOMO

*Salty* I thought the fangirls always go for Edgeworth...
uh yea you already sayed GIRLS ;) as a fangirl I agree with you... stay away from my edgy
My tutorials bring all the pros to the Tubes,
And they're like; "This is nice and all but Phoenix Wright's still shit, dude."
...
Not sure where I was going with that.
I use a pad, but a tip that should help you:
change your dash button to just L+M, not L+M+H.
If your dash includes a H input, then you'll find it harder to dash and follow up with a H attack, as the attack won't come out if you're still holding down dash. I do hope that helps.
Waiiit... Phoenix's pallette swap looks awfully familiar... and so does Maya's... *GASP!* It's Ghost Trick!!!!!
***** Huh? Who?
***** Umm... OK?
***** ... Your joke makes no sense. What's the significance of bringing up a correlation between a cult mystery game and an underrated mystery game? And please don't tell me it's another one of those damned "Illuminati Confirmed" jokes.
Jalen Washington What joke? Also, the correlation between Ace Attorney and Ghost Trick is that they were written by the same person; Shu Takumi.
Aonien Huh, I thought that Athena seemed kind of Lynne-ish.
Watching all the Lobby Shenanigans and your videos year after year with Phoenix just makes me want to learn this character after my hiatus from this game.
Super useful tutorial even 12 years later thank you Lee!
Their lobby shenanigans are awesome, I'm trying to learn how to play with Phoenix Wright and viewtiful joe only and exclusively because of the videos 😂
Srr for my English, I'm not a native speaker
Man I love popping back onto this vid every now and then. Your voice and this vid bring me joy.

"When Pheonix was announced as a new character in Ultimate (Marvel Vs Capcom 3)..."
I wish.
I really, really, wish.
Can I get a gif of that Maya thumbs up?
Thanks for the kind words! Though the problem with the evidence combos would be that I'd need better assists for such feats. Sadly, I'm not so keen on dropping Viewtiful Joe or Dante for Spencer, She Hulk or Doom/Strange.
"Order in the court!"
"Objection overruled!"
Oh Judge, how I love you so
If you're using Dante's Jam session, then use it to get to Turnabout mode.
This game introduced me to the Ace Attorney series. XD
Nice
Same here lol. Just finished the main trilogy.
Yus.
Just finished one now actually. Will be up tomorrow if all goes well.
19:47 i learned the hard way crawler assault is immune to ace attorney
I've noticed some folks getting out of it too.
I can't say how to fix this without looking into it, but you can probably make it trickier by using paperwork to keep them in place, or do some high/low attacks while Maya's attacking to make it a bit harder on them.
I really want this game, but i don't have enough emone
(*by the way, what does Phoenix even say on the Maya hyper? I can't understand it..*)
"I've got a bad feeling!"
Lythero Ah, ok. Makes sense now.
Anyways, you are a REALLY good PW player, and I might look to this tutorial once I get the game.
BaronNedTheFirst I can be your friend if you're getting it for Xbox.
Dante UMvC3 If I were to get it, it would have to be on the PS3, I don't have an xbox, ._.
I can be your friend :D i just got into this game with phoenix dante and deadpool.
I love the little tips you put in there that fit in with the Phoenix Wright Games, its a nice touch to an already great tutorial.
Phoenix' eyes were brown? MY WHOLE LIFE WAS A LIE!!!
Just make sure Maya's out at the same time, and keep an eye out for people who are going on for the attack. Sometimes just taking advantage of people throwing attacks when maya's out is just as important as getting evidence.

Holy shit! ***** is beating the cap out of me!
Zero OBJECTION! He isn't beating the cap out of you, he's beating the Capcom out of you!
I don't see it as much of a problem at all. The music seemed to go quite well in time with the animation that I had in mind, and I figured it worked out fairly well...
It's not like we're going to get Edgeworth in UMvC3 any time soon.
Top Three for me:
"I've got all I need!"
"I can't control it!"
"Now...I'm motivated!"
Pretty much those 3 quotes mean “Too slow to defeat me, now you’re screwed”
You're not doing it fast enough.
The Investigation Hold It combos usually take too long as well, but it's absolutely possible to stun someone with 4 hold its in Investigation Mode.
phoenix is a defense attorney. who is he defending in this game?
HIMSELF
(if you played his games,he did it once)
He's defending you from losing.
***** The only time I know he was sentenced was in Apollo Justice, and in that one Apollo Justice defended him ._.
***** he defended himself as EARLYas the FIRST GAME.
***** Somebody trying to pin it on Pheonix halfway through the case doesn't exactly count... Especially since it was Maya as the suspect.
You can do the down, down motion for the stance change before you hit the ground. Try doing it earlier.
Thanks, Lythero! Because of this tutorial, I managed to beat a 3rd Lord!
(And I'm only an Amateur!)
I greatly appreciate the approval bro!
My brother grabs the evidence fast asf
It's done by pressing both assist buttons. Therefor it might not work as well if there are other characters left on your team.
I'm a dbfz scrub and just got this game on sale on steam. Phoenix wright looks cool to try out. Thanks for the vid.
Try delaying the hold it ever so slightly after you jump. this'll give you more time to get back to the ground. I wouldn't feel too bad about it though, it's not that useful a combo and is definitely more tricky than it's worth.
Anyone from 2020?
Same. I just stumbled upon the video, but the production and effort (not to mention insight) of the video was interesting enough to get me to watch it all the way through. Strong work brother.
It's just a ladder, lee.
VB3 what's the difference?
I'll see what I can do.
Still, if I can do it, it'll be a while from now...
Lythero mah master, how about i do a character with Phoenix Wright moves? But,with new ones too?
British lythero
Irish*
They're not exclusive, but it's difficult to tell how many more Hold Its you'll need.
Think of it like this (Not in any way accurate, just an example). In order to get a stun, you need to hit an opponent with 100 stun points (SP). The amount of SP constantly deteriorates.
Investigation Hold It: 30 SP
Trial Hold It: 45 SP
Turnabout Hold It (Objection): 80 SP
While these figures are just baseless conjecture, all of the questioning attacks accumulate over the different stances, of that I'm sure.
Is it possible to get this game on PC? I don't have any consoles and would really want to play this
Soon
It's now possible =)
It's when you catch more than one enemy character in a combo.
Lawyers op
Yes, do this instead to blow your own mind:
Crouching H, and Heavy Break the witness. Job done with one hyper.
0:40 dude, this isn't smash lmao
Are you joking or should I clarify?
@@EikeKusch776 it was a joke
