You’re killing it! And I just wanted to remind you that having a higher income is not the only reason why you were able to pay all of this debt off! There are a lot of people out there that make your income or higher and are in far worse debt situations than you are! It doesn’t matter the income, it’s how you manage it! Great job guys!
All of it? I don’t know if we can swing that, but it would be amazing! Well definitely knock out the car loan though ☺️ thank you so much for the encouragement! 💜
@KatieoftheHouse If the economy/ inflation and your income remain even somewhat similar next year as it has been this year, i expect a big movement next year too. It might not be a whopping, whole @$61k but still some pretty good movement.
@KatieoftheHouse A lot of people calculate the percentage of debt paid off. For the remaining @$85k +/- it might be motivating to pie chart the remaining percentage of balance. Just on the amount you start January with or, go back to your latest series of the 24 months to debt freedom. 'Ya want each month to show as opposed to counting since day one. Maybe something to add during the slow or impatient or grinding months; or quarterly. Again you want it to be motivating; especially as you turn to the SoFi loan as the debt of interest.
So happy for you and your family. I have been following you since the beginning and I am almost as excited as you guys every month to see your progress. It is hard to stick to debt payoff and becomes unbearable some moths but the finish line is going to be amazing. Just imagine how nice life is going to be be when all that money will be going to the things you all want instead of debt :) . We are cheering you guys on . Come and join the debt free club.
Thank you so so much for being here for so long and sticking around! And thank you for the encouragement! I really need the boost for the community sometimes, and it helps more than you know 💕 I cannot wait to join your debt free club! 🙌🏼
Yea Katie, way to go! Whoo Hoo! Sue and I are a bit older than you two, that might answer some questions you might have about us. I wanted to mention that we were married on a low budget by the mayor of our town Neptune NJ. Our wedding and honeymoon cost a total of $800. Last year we went on a trip stayed in the same motel rooms as our wedding day. Anyway, we were well on the way to paying off our debt when we lost our minds and bought a new truck, it is mine a Toyota Tacoma. I hit a deer on the way to work. It was financed for 60 months. I friend of ours who is a Ramsey FPU coordinator, looked me in the eye and said "pay if off". She is bigger than me so I had no real options and it was the last debt we had out of our $136K debt portfolio that truck was paid off in 26 months. So when you are on a roll it becomes more urgent I think. Sue was a stay at home mom for 10 years so it's hard but you are on this! Goals, love the goals!
Thomas, you and Sue are an inspiration! It’s so nice to know that you started out on a similar journey because I know you are in a much better place now! Wow, 136K paid off! That’s amazing!
@ I am planning to start filming again in January we were in the area that was hit bad by hurricane Helene and life just got busy for a while, things are just now getting back to normal for the s.
Excuse me ma'am!?!?? 😮 you JUST broke the 100k matk not too long ago! It was literally not that long ago that I congratulated you for that!? What???!!!! Katie! You guys are doing AMAZING!! you're going to be at 50k in no time then debt free!! Wow! Absolutely incredible work you and hubby have done! Congratulations on all your progress!
Right?! It literally feels like I was JUST celebrating that milestone…and I kind of was. It was only 2 months ago, but man that flew by! Thank you so much for the support and encouragement! It means the world to me to have people like you here cheering me on 🥹🥰
Happy Monday Katie! Great debt update...you are making phenomenal progress!!!! We too started with around $200k in student loan debt back in 2013 (and now we're down to just under $22k...plus our mortgage)...so I definitely know the feeling of seeing that number go down.
Wow, you have made a lot of progress! I can’t wait to see we have 22K left 🤩 I’m sure you can’t wait until it’s all gone now. That’s seriously inspiring! And happy Monday to you!! 💜
Thank you for going into a little bit of detail at the beginning for your history! I’ve been around a few months but hadn’t heard where you started to now. Inspiring!
Oh, you’re welcome! I probably need to give background more often, but sometimes I feel like the people who have been here for a while will get sick of hearing it 😆 thank you for watching! ❤️
Hey, hey! Oh gosh, it has been a crazy week already! This is the last week of school before break, so it’s been chaos 😅 I hope your week is going better! ❤️
Great progress! I’m in a season of saving. Ended up having to take out a very large loan for my child in July after making my last debt payment in June!!! but after talking to a financial person I am using the last couple months of 2024 and probably all of 2025 to stock pile cash for various upcoming things. The loan I took out will be here for several years so I don’t feel bad about it.
I love that you aren’t stressing about the loan! If you paid off your debt before, you can do it again. In the meantime, save money is ALWAYS a good thing 😊 you’ve got this!
Hey Katie! I listened earlier and forgot that I didn’t comment! 😅You guys are doing amazing cutting back your spending. I know that’s helpful even with a big shovel!! 🌻💜🌷
Amazing progress it’s always great to see the numbers going down, at the end of 2025 I will have paid down a little over $25,000 in 2024- I have a personal SOFI loan that I’m tackling now that should be done next year and then it’s on to my last debt student loans which is $56k
Amazing progress this year! Your last student loan is at a similar place as Marc’s. It’s daunting trying to tackle such a big balance, but you can do it! Here’s to you being debt free in 2025 🎉🙌🏼
So proud of you all and glad you recognize that this season is all about working hard so Marc can work less in the future. I'm always so impressed by your monthly debt updates
Thank you, Brooke! We definitely don’t want Marc to do this forever. He says it’s not as bad as he thought it would be, but I do think without the debt that we could afford to have him cut back and still live the life we want. So that’s the goal ☺️
Thank you, Allison! I hope we can keep it up! I feel like we always do better the second half of the year, but I’m going to try and keep up the momentum 😃
I was just offered this same video from last year. Girl you need to do a comparison video. Yeah, that was pre-highlander, but you managed to pay off more than the original cost of the highlander in debt this year. You doubled last years debt pay off amount. You're done next year. I can feel it.
I remember being so discouraged about the Highlander debt, but we definitely bounced back pretty quickly. It makes me cringe a little to think we’d only have a little over 50K left without the Highlander, BUT I know we can do this! You think next year, really?! I really really hope that’s possible! That would be SO cool! Thank you for the encouragement, Liz! ❤️
Awesome job. I enjoy watching your videos because it’s proof this works. Gives me so much motivation. Look forward to see at the end of the year how much is left
Omg your husband is an anesthesia PA! I'm an OB/GYN PA! he makes an AMAZING salary!!!!! I definitely do not make as much. Congrats to you guys!! I'm also paying off my Toyota Highlander. $19k left, estimated to be paid off by spring (hopefully April). I'm excited to watch your journey!! Thanks so much for sharing your budgets
IF you can keep to the December '24's budgeted $3148 of debt payment you will still meet the Highlander $10k in '24 goal with a kiss to spare: assuming a $935 SoFi minimum. You will also meet the 2024 total debt reduction goal of $61161 with ease per the Dec '24 budget. Even with the reduced planned and budgeted debt payments in December you will still meet your Jan '24 goals and also the mid year adjusted (up) goals. A $30k or lower Highlsnder balance may hsve been sitting in the bsck of your mind but you are on track to meet your written gosls at greater than 100%.; and this is with the house painting and also clothes dryer blips. You and the family have done well.
Katie, this is amazing progress!! Quick question for you: You mentioned in one of your videos when talking about deciding which debt to focus on it was A. the smaller ones first, or B. the one with the higher interest rate? Tried finding it again, but couldn't and I've just written out all of my debt loans going into 2025 and cannot figure out which to focus on first. Help and thanks?!
Hey, Mel! In my case the smaller one was the higher interest rate, so I was able to focus on the smallest one and the one with the higher interest rate. If you are trying to decide, focusing on the higher interest rate will save you more money in the long run, but if you like a quicker win, I’d go for the smallest. It’s really up to you though! 😊
You have been doing AMAZING!! But I’ve gotta know-do you know your enneagram? You seem like a 3-very goal driving and jumping to the next goal 😂 But I also feel you in that ok that one’s done now on to the next! But I think when you have big goals and they are attainable it’s just exciting! 🎉❤
Bahaha I love that you asked that! I’m a 6, so I’m an over thinker , stressor, worried, and focus on security and being prepared. I think that fits, too because I just want to be financial secure with debt payoff and retirement. HOWVER, 6’s go to 3’s when they are stressed, and debt stresses me out, so I think you are on to something there 😅
My usual few comments. First, besides debt payoff, you also were investing at a good rate. Even if most of it was via 403b/401K its still a good level of investment especially with what I beleive is a match. Second, you seem to be almost apoligizing that Marc has a high income because of his profession. But think of why he has that income. Its because he spent the time to train, and educate himself. He was not born a PA. He sacrificed. And he continues to make some sacrifices for his future. As you do too. So those that seem to be jealous of your status. I have only a few things to say, its basically. "Get over it" and "you could too". Katy and Marc are average people, about to live an not so average life, becaue they took advantage of the opportunities that were available to them. As I usually write. "congrats". Soon you will be joining my club.
Thanks so much for this comment, Jon! Growing up without a ton of money and watching my parents stress about money has given me some level of guilt I think about our income. I know that’s silly because he did work hard for it, and we both sacrificed for it, but for some reason I still feel kind of “bad” about it if that makes sense. So I think you’ll picked up that correctly, but I don’t think any one else has made me feel guilty, it’s all internal. I’ll definitely have to work on that 😬
@@KatieoftheHouse I am going to send you a note the other way, about guilt and money and a little bit more about my story. I hope you log in and read it. That’s very true! Thank you 😊 the income has helped us do this BECAUSE we managed it well and out it to debt. I like that better 😬
I predict that the Highlander will be paid off before October 2025 and the last loan paid off late summer/early fall 2026. Amazing progress!
Oooh I like that prediction, Jesse! I hope we can make it happen 😀
Good job. You’ll have it paid off next year! It’ll be a very merry merry Christmas 2025!
All of it? I don’t know if we can swing that, but it would be amazing! Well definitely knock out the car loan though ☺️ thank you so much for the encouragement! 💜
@ yep! You can. You still paid a lot of interest this year that will be added to total payoff for next year. Keep going! 💪
@@FirstHundi I would be so so happy if you are right! I hope you are! Thanks for believing in us! 🥰❤️
$145k to $87k just looks phenomenal on the spread sheet! I realize it comes with a lot of work and discipline. But tne slread sheet looks so goood.
Thank you, Terry! I agree that it’s so nice to look at that big decrease! I’m hoping we can have a repeat next year 😀
