These higher rate bank yields are to encourage new members to join. The rates will change rather fast. The question is if it’s worth your time to keep an eye out for rate variations and then decide to push money around to another higher rate account. It just means more paperwork on taxes.
"For the LONG TERM, Best High Yield Savings & Checking Accounts". That is the video I would love to see. Rate chasing makes sense for some people, for others all we want is a consistently "higher than most banks" rate without cumbersome hurdles. By definition, teaser rates just don't last. Ally, Capital One, Marcus are the names I usually see near the top of the leader board over the long haul.
I opened a Pibank hysa. It took over one month and a couple of phone calls to get the acct opened. The rate originally was 5.5% but by the time the acct finally was able to be funded the rate dropped to 5%. That felt like a bait and switch. Now that the acct has been funded everything seems smooth but it has been less than one month. Btw with Pibank interest is paid on a mid month cycle on the 15th.
Keep money in a broad market ETF which has outperformed stocks and such as a whole long term. And gives better rates than 4-5% which short term at best. Rather have security than chasing rates.
Thanks, I keep most of my Roth IRA in Schwab’s SWVXX money market (4.44%), while using the same funds to sell cash secured puts. I’m also buying TBills at Fidelity. I’m searching for new easy ideas.
It's basically called the wheel strategy. Sell puts and if they get exercised, you sell covered calls on those shares and repeat. It's a good way to generate profits. There are good explanations on YT.
Newish subscriber here. 2025 will be a year of continuing my education on all things money. I’m currently using a numbers spreadsheet to do a monthly checkup and to recap returns, etc. on my portfolio. I’m sure there are apps that would make this easier. LGE community credit union in at metro Atlanta (LGECU) has 5% APY on checking but requires a minimum number of credit or debit swipes per month. The also have very competitive mortgages and other loan rates. Customer service is very good.
Credit Karma bank drops their HYSA rates by 100 basis points at the drop of a hat. It's more than likely these banks would follow the Fed rate cuts in the same manner.
I'm old school. I want to walk in and talk to someone face to face. We did just get a really sweet 2k bonus from Chase for moving our emergency fund accounts there however. 😊
I would never deal with Santander. Went into a Branch to cash a check drawn on their bank. They would not cash the check unless I opened an account. They lost out, because I was about to buy several hundred thousand dollars in some cds, because they had better rates at the time than other banks.
Be careful with these teaser rates and FDIC insurance is great, but who wants to go through the process of getting your money back from the FDIC if the bank fails?
Open bank disclosures state, "This is a variable-rate account and the rate applicable to your balance tier may change at any time without notice." Is this common?
It's true for money market ,high yield saving anything other than CD. Even CD has a callable CD. SO really makes no difference with or without this disclosure. It's a redundant disclosure to me.
I encountered difficulties in opening the account, despite multiple attempts. The verification process failed, resulting in an inability to proceed. Consequently, I opted to open an account with Junius Bank, which proved to be a seamless and hassle-free experience.
Almost all these Hi Yield savings accounts drop the rates after a short period and DONT tell you. Even on your monthly statement wont list the rates in force and will only list the interest earned. It will be up to you to find out the current rates. Been there before and wont be worth the time to open. T bills are my favorite ones.
So in order to get the 5% rate on the Origin Performance Checking account, you have a $36K window. I understand the minimum $4K amount. But you only qualify for 5% "up to" $40K. $40,000? That's less than the average price of a new vehicle. That ridiculously low amount makes me wonder who their target market is, and raises too many red flags. The Santander/OpenBank option is much more desirable. I'm expecting their geographic limitations will eventually be waived.
Been with Origin pulling in 2,400 a year when rates were 6%. This is a checking account. Demand accounts will typically pay less and/or place limitations vs savings or mmkt accounts.

I'm staying with T-Bils. 😂 I am a resident of NY. Doesn't make sense to pay local taxes for the savings account.😂
Do you buy thru brokerage or Direct? (TD - treasury direct). I've been buying direct but obviously it's clunky as all heck.
@@bdonovable direct. Once I got used to it, it's fine.
@bdonovable of course I buy it trough a brokerage in Fidelity. This lady has a lot of videos about it
Also wondering the same thing. Are you buying direct or through a brokerage?

I did this a few years ago jumping around for better rates and then I got into TBills and a prime MM fund.
Exactly - do not try to time the market. Please work with a professional to develop a strategy and stick to it!

what do you mean by cash secured puts?
@ I sell puts on equities and have cash available (in SWVXX earning interest) if assigned. If assigned the equity, I sell some SWVXX.
