The hobby has never caused me stress because I made a early corporate decision to only collect for a handful of systems & a very select groups of games within genres I truly love. Sure, I could have gone after a Panasonic 3DO, a C-64, Sega Saturn, Dreamcast, etc. I also passed on collecting handheld systems as well.
The only thkng that creates stress within the hobby is parasitic re-selling whores over-inflating what was a affordable hobby.
I discussed this identical topic & cautioned new collectors to focus on just one or two console systems initially, as well as limiting the games for those systems to just 5 to 10 games for each console, then in a few months see if you actually enjoy going back to older games as some like the notion of playing an old favorite, but in the end may simply not actually enjoy going back to a old game & it's obvious limitations, when compared to new games that they have grown accustomed to. We both know individuals within the community that think they want a big collection but then lose interest & sell them for the money, then later re-buy them in haste, only to hawk them once again, etc.
I have a very strict budget of only spending 5% of my personal net income on video games, systems or physical media for music or movies. It takes supreme discipline to stick to such a budget but in the end you won't be tempted to hawk all your shit once again because one didn't save their income for a rainy day.

I've met so many people over the years while being here on RUclips and on Facebook gaming groups who definitely were stressed out about their collections. You made the right choice in the beginning and saved yourself a lot of trouble that most people had to learn the hard way. If you try to collect for every console and handheld, you will go broke fast. Today's video game market is way too inflated to try to collect for more then just a few consoles. The days of $20 Sega Dreamcast consoles and $1.00 games is long gone sadly. That ship has sailed and will never return to port.
Yes those parasitic reselling scum definitely create that stress for our once affordable hobby. I'm so glad that I was able to build up my collection when no one else cared about old video games. I wouldn't have the collection I do today if I had to start in 2024.
Limiting yourself to just a few consoles and a handful a games is the best advice we can give new collector's in 2024. I've seen people who were excited to go back and play retro games, they bought the consoles, the games and were so eager to play them but once they did, they just didn't like them anymore. They would say the controls are too dated, the graphics are just to primitive compared to modern games etc. Some times the idea of having and playing something is greater than actually owning or playing these old games. I know you and I obviously enjoy playing these older games, but I do know there are quite a few people who can never go back to these old games and look at them the same way they did in the past.
Yes, Sadly I've known plenty of gamers/collector's who fell victim to that vicious cycle of wanting a large video game collection and once they obtain it, they no longer like it and then sell it off, then a few months or years later they rebuy it all again, and then finally sell it off again and keep repeating the cycle over and over. That's not an easy cycle to break but I do know a few people that were successful in getting out of the endless buying loop. One guy that used to be on here finally gave up video game collecting for his now Wife and Family and only owns a handful of games for his PlayStation 5 these days. Another guy on here left game collecting behind completely and no longer games or collects video games these days.
Having a budget is so important in this hobby, especially in 2024. It will help you stay prepared for those unexpected life moments that can happen at anytime. Thanks for checking out my video game collecting tips discussion vlog Dean, I really appreciate it my friend.

I get paid twice a month so it becomes my reward when I get paid to spend $75 (that my limit) on just a couple games. Usually I go for something I really want, and make sure its mint, has the manual, etc etc. I also set aside $80 from my check that categorize as "hobby" so whenever I'm out and about I can draw from that money, and if I don't spend it, I put right into savings! I I agree with your comment about picking a couple consoles to collect for. Great example is the XBOX is red hot right now so Ive been lucky that I've been able to pick up some of the more uncommon ps3 stuff since no one is paying as much attention to it.

Having monetary limits set for your video collecting is an amazing goal to have and achieve. It keeps up from going overboard with our collecting and spending. It's so easy to go nuts on video games. I definitely recommend that people only try to focus on collecting for just a couple of consoles, you don't want to be collecting for them all in 2024. The Xbox 360 is definitely the hottest console to collect for currently. I'm glad to hear that you've been able to pick up some of those uncommon PlayStation 3 titles that no one is looking for at the moment. If everyone goes right, you go left, they go up, you go down etc. I really appreciate you checking out my collecting tips discussion vlog.

Hey Sleepy, I decided to buy only the Games I really want to play because I have too many Games that I only played only once and didn't like them but I'm going to get a PS5 this Summer because I want to create my own Wrestlers on Wrestling Games.

Hello Miguel my friend. Only buying the games that you truly want to play and enjoy is one of the best goals you can have in this hobby. It keeps you from going overboard and getting overwhelmed with your collection. It also saves you a lot of money as well. I'm glad that you will be getting your PlayStation 5 this summer. Those Wrestling games were always fun, I just got a huge stack of them for the Xbox 360 this year. I appreciate you checking out my video game collecting tips discussion vlog.

@@AsianSleepy Hey Sleepy, sorry for being so distant on your channel but I've been sick with a severe cough but I'm getting better now. This year I'm going to get two more Games: Luigi's Mansion 2 and Assassin's Creed Shadows and then that's it, I will not buy another Game unless I really like it. I'm getting older and sadly, I can't play Video Games forever.

It's all good Miguel my friend. Sorry to hear that you've been sick lately with a severe cough. I'm glad to hear you're getting better bro. I definitely understand on not wanting to add too many more games to your collection. We definitely only have so much time left to play these games.

@@AsianSleepy Hey Sleepy, I'm feeling a little better but I'm still sick so I have to be careful. I decided not to buy too many Games this year because I already too many Games that I never played/finished, I still need to try and finish recording Gran Turismo 2.

You dont really have to pay taxes unless you make over 20k. Nobody is doing those numbers as a hobby. I almost hit it one year, but I was going hard.
They tried to pass some new law that would lower it to 600 but keep postponing it every year.

    • @AsianSleepy
      @AsianSleepy  4 месяца назад +1

Well technically you're suppose to report all income but I'm glad to hear that they law has been delayed in being implemented. I would agree the average person probably won't reach sales in over $20,000, but some of these big gaming youtubers definitely sell way more than $20,000 in a year. I've seen some of them doing over $3000, to $5000 a month in sales. Those channels never talk about the taxes that they pay to their subscribers, they keep that info secret.
