People visit there specifically because public intox is allowed and noise is expected. If you book a room in the French quarter or garden district anytime close to Mardi gras, its buyer beware. you should be expecting exactly this and worse. You want the experience without the noise, rent from one of the high rise hotels at least above the fifth floor or go further outside of the city. Gentilly, Marrero, Harvey, Metairie, Chalmette. Or New Orleans East but only if you want to get mugged by black street hoods. If you're there for business, either pay for executive class accommodations or reschedule. Mardi gras is the busy season for these small hotels, servicing drunks and rabble is where they make their money.

I think maybe Gordon also wants to see how everyday operations are at the place he goes to. He very likely has a built-in B.S. detector that would alert him right away to anyone not being straight with him.
In order to keep Gordon's visit constructive, they need to run the restaurant exactly as usual so that he can see what's wrong. And also to make an effect for the show...

I have a friend who doesn't like to cook, she has a super nice kitchen with sparkling clean granite countertops and top notch appliances. She says she'd rather eat out most days as that way she avoids "dirtying her precious kitchen" I'm definitely going to show her this video and others from kitchen nightmares. I'd rather eat from my clean kitchen than risk eating from a place where the kitchen is, most likely than not, way dirtier.

When he’s not doing the narration he is much more distant and the feeling is from the producer’s perspective, but when he’s narrating it’s from his perspective and it feels much more intimate and you feel like you’re really along for the ride, not just a 6 degrees if separation bystander.
