Hey Ricky, It looks like comments have tapered off since you first produced these videos. I recently purchased Mage Knight and your videos are impeccable. Your pacing and attention to detail is spot on and it's like watching a novel unfold. Amazing game and thanks again for the time spent on it.
I have just been watching your vids again as i have dusted off mage knight and have been playing it again. I forgot just how good it was and i wanted to thank you for doing these play throughs. I think the work you do for the board game community is exceptional. Thanks for all your time and efforts
Seven years on and these Mage Knight videos are still absolutely essential viewing for new players like me, during these days of isolation due to lockdown I finally gave in and bought Mage Knight Ultimate for some solo fun, but I wouldn't have done so were it not for this video series, Thank you so much for your excellent instructional content!
I'm very pleased you have done these "tutorials". Game developers should pay your gaming hours for this. It has saved really my time and no errors in gameplay first watching this. Clear explaining and everything. Thank you!
Awesome series Ricky. I went back to catch this one now that I've got the expansion and it holds up really well. Thanks for all the Mage Knight videos. Great stuff!
Getting back into good old Mage Knight. I notice your Volkare mini has a very bent out of shape sword. I recently learned that immersing a plastic mini under hot water allows you to reshape it. Mine was as bad as yours but now it looks fantastic. However try to avoid getting the base wet. When it cools down (just a few seconds) it retains its shape, so it shouldn't bend. Huzzah!
Wow, such an amazing video to find from my subscriptions box this morning! I thoroughly love this game and the previous walkthroughs you uploaded were not only intructional, but extremely entertaining as well. I look forward to see more, especially with the new expansion. Thanks so much for doing these! =)
What you are looking for is a Plano brand box. I know they sell them in the tacklebox section at walmart, or any craft store too. They come in all sizes.
I just ordered Mage Knight in part based on your replay vids You seem to have the same love for these kind of board games as most of us do, and it really shows in your excellent vids. It is a great hobby imo - and relatively harmless (except to our egos every once in awhile.)
Hey Ricky - just letting you know that your vid series here is genius, 6 years later and you've helped me discover and learn what has quickly become one of my favourite solo games.
I most certainly did! Ordered 20 of them in fact and spent the weekend re-organising my boxes!! I played solo MK last night and was set up in 5 minutes rather than the usual 20 minutes piling up the tokens into neat rows - out of the box all the way now ;-)
That Wham box is pretty awesome. I don't know if there are Plano boxes that support that arrangement with 2x4 sectuion of small chambers, a 2x2 section of medium chambers, and then one large chamber.
I know I'm a bit late to the party on this one, hopefully you found some nice storage boxes. I like to use Plano boxes for my board games. You can order them online or find them in Walmart. I like the Prolatch Stoaway series; very sturdy and the dividers keep all your pieces separate, even if it is dropped.
Thanks for doing this - Mage Knight is probably my favourite solo game and it's great to see how others play it. Oh, I hope the plastic box company are giving you some commission as they are about to be hit hard by my gaming group!
You can get something very similar to the one in the video (i haven't clicked on links yet) at almost any store that sells FISHING supplies. You are looking for a tackle box, or if you go to a place that sells CRAFTING materials like cloth and other supplies, they have some there as well. Hope this helps sir.
Hi panda. Thank you :) Can Volkare be detached ? not without cutting him off... But, you could, if you wish, cut him off and re-base him and use the dial independently or transfer the stats to a card. Nice!
Thank you for this awesome expansion series! Your series was instrumental to getting me into Mage Knight earlier, and I'm glad to see it continue! Question for the readers -- For those of you in the USA, have you found any storage boxes similar to the "Wham box" that Ricky links to above, for the base game + expansion? (I'd rather not ship overseas for a plastic container if I can avoid it.) Thanks!
I love your videos Ricky. As many of the other comments already mentioned, spot on pacing and thorough explanations. Tonight I'm facing Volkare for the first time, wish me luck! P.S.: Volkares sword is equally bent in my miniature, any tips from the miniature pros out there for correcting this?
I always felt the only place they came up short was not enough differentiation between heroes. There IS /some/ difference, of course. Each has their two standard move replacers, and their skills are ALMOST totally unique. Just...I dunno. There should be a basic deck, like we have, and then you should be able to replace the entire starting deck with character specific versions. Still wish you let people buy Super Thanks! I owe you a great deal of compensation for the time and effort you put into this game and it's series.
Is it frustrating the expansion's core tiles are so different in colour to those from the original set when playing? From this video they look much 'browner', rather than the original earthy olive.
A thought: With the expansion there are now 17 cards for the 4 original characters but only 16 for Wolfhawk. I could not find a reference to that in the rule book. Am I supposed to take one card out? I believe Wolfhawk is missing 1 "Stamina".
Thank you, Ricky! I actually never bothered to check the numers of the cards -.- It makes sense and now the characters feel even more individual, since each one got a slightly improved basic ability. Awesome!
Hey Ricky.. Thank you very very much for the Mage Knight base game guides! I watched them few months before when I first purchased it. Now that I bought the expansion too I watched all these 10 episodes. I think that understood the new entries of this expansion and I gonna give it a try with a solo and co-op games the next days. But, I have a simple query. Why in this solo you used 4 mana dices instead of 3? Because I thought that the dices must be as the actual players +2! Is this a specific extra rule of Volkares' senarios?
i just got the base game and was able to play the initial game and a solo conquest. I really like what i've experienced so far but is this expansion really necessary? Does it add to the game to make it more fun?
I couldn't help but cringe when you shuffled Volkare's deck; such delicious cards shouldn't be stressed like that! >_< That's why I use the MK Dummy Player Android App whenever I go solo (which is most of the time)
Hi Ricky. I bought Lost legion recently. I have to say, the production is terrible. The cards are different sizes, the colour all vary from higher to lower contrast, the artefact cards all have printing errors on their backs, the monster tokens colour also vary. Is this for your set too? I need to know if this is the case for all lost legion sets or maybe just some - as Wizkids have not got back to me. Thanks Ricky, I really appreciate the time you take to reply to me.
+Philippe Reekie hi Phillippe. No, I never had any problems with my set. But it was a while ago I bought it. Maybe they have changed production company?
+Philippe Reekie Did you buy the Lost Legion expansion, or the new Shades of Tezla expansion? I know there's a lot of uproar because the Shades of Tezla expansion has wrong card sizes, misprints on some tokens, and many color differences.
Hi, I bought Lost Legion. I think it is a new recently printed version, which is rubbish. It seems that the only people who are complaining about lost legion are people who have purchased it recently. It appears that Wizkids don't give a monkeys, as I've contacted them a bunch of times and still don't have a straight answer. I've asked for replacement pieces, but they're blanking me......thanks for your comment.
Man that really sucks to hear. I don't own Lost Legion yet, and hearing this makes me afraid to buy it now... ugh, wth. How can the maker of one of the best board games allow itself to be put in this situation?
I bought another copy of Lost legion, and the cards were now different sizes to the base game and the previous lost legion i bought. They were larger than the first copy but smaller than the base game. great. Colours were all different again, for example, I know exactly when Im going to draw a new Lost legion map tile, as the shade of green on its back is very different. So I suppose, if you bought 10 copies, you may get lucky with one of them, or none of them. Wizkids customer service is disgusting also. They keep ignoring me, and their emails are very condescending. Would emailing Vlaada directly achieve anything? Although can't find his contact details...

thank you !
Your Mage Knight walkthrough was what got me into this board gaming hobby. Now hundreds of dollars later, I am very excited to see this playthrough!
I have just been watching your vids again as i have dusted off mage knight and have been playing it again. I forgot just how good it was and i wanted to thank you for doing these play throughs. I think the work you do for the board game community is exceptional.

my pleasure! great game, great choice by you.. enjoy it and good luck !!
@@BoxofDelights just getting an order in for this other game called Renegade, I think you might have heard of it ;)
Great choice 😎😎
6 years passed and STILL it's my best source to remind the rules and update the game flow - thanks! Great job!
I am watching it again, I really missed it, I wish if you do another series for this game (Volkere return), thanks

Absolutely thrilled to see this series! Thanks, Rick.
Nice to see the return of Mage Jnight; together with Robinson Crusoe, my favourite playthroughs.
Hey Ricky - just letting you know that your vid series here is genius, 6 years later and you've helped me discover and learn what has quickly become one of my favourite solo games.
Thank you ! Happy adventures!! R.R.

My pleasure. Enjoy the rest of the series !
Thanks man, Hello from America! Keep up the good work, I always look forward to your videos.
That Wham box is pretty awesome. I don't know if there are Plano boxes that support that arrangement with 2x4 sectuion of small chambers, a 2x2 section of medium chambers, and then one large chamber.
Whoo-hoo! I really enjoyed the Lonesome Gamer's playthrough, and I'm really excited to see you give this a run.
I know I'm a bit late to the party on this one, hopefully you found some nice storage boxes. I like to use Plano boxes for my board games. You can order them online or find them in Walmart. Any play throughs on harder difficulties. Fair I find to be way to forgiving.
Yay! More Mage Knight! Looking forward to this series. :)
Now I have to let life pass me by, waiting for more Mage Knight.
Please do a Mage Knight season 4 :D
did you find the Shades of Tezla series yet??
walmart carries tons of plastic boxes in the fishing section. Also Menards thats the two places I get my boxes for my games.
Mr. Royal thank you for this video very awesome. Can the volkare model be detached from its dial?
Hi Jedra1000 - you're very welcome ! Did you manage to get those boxes sorted ?
I waited for the day you progress the journey of Mage Knight with the expansion and here it is. The Journey and the adventure goes on ;) joyjoy
Hi panda. Thank you :) Can Volkare be detached ? not without cutting him off... But, you could, if you wish, cut him off and re-base him and use the dial independently or transfer the stats to a card. Nice!
Hi, same as in this video. Wham boxes. I'll put a link in the video description.
Have you tried Hardware stores? I'm sure Walmart/Mejier/Target have compartment boxes like these, too.
Great choice!
Your videos are like crack. Keep coming back for more. Nice work.
Thank you for this awesome expansion series! Your series was instrumental to getting me into Mage Knight earlier, and I'm glad to see it continue!

Good luck Rick, Volkare has been kicking my butt a fair bit so give it to him!
Thanks Dante... next episode will probably be tomorrow :)
Awesome! Looking forward to this one!

Late to the party, but I love Mage Knight. Do you still play it? How are your feelings about it after all these years?
yes! still the best !
Hi Ricky. Do you plan on making a similar video series with Shades of Tezla? =D
Yes! And soon I hope :)
Ricky Royal cant wait!
awesome series! good job man!
Is it frustrating the expansion's core tiles are so different in colour to those from the original set when playing?
From this video they look much 'browner', rather than the original earthy olive.
Why is there a star in the starting tile's ocean? Sounds like there are expansion waiting for ocean exploration?
it shows you where the tiles join to each other. As it goes, nothing yet allows you to join a tile at that spot.
A thought: With the expansion there are now 17 cards for the 4 original characters but only 16 for Wolfhawk. I could not find a reference to that in the rule book. Am I supposed to take one card out? I believe Wolfhawk is missing 1 "Stamina".
Yes, you are meant to take one out. The expansion tells you which ones :)
page 2, paragraph at bottom-right, tells you that you replace "the Basic Action card with the same number of that hero's deck"
Thank you, Ricky! I actually never bothered to check the numers of the cards -.- It makes sense and now the characters feel even more individual, since each one got a slightly improved basic ability. Awesome!
My pleasure! Hope you enjoy exploring the new cards :)
Hey Rick, I know this is the wrong video but would you mind telling me what container you use to store your Merchant of Venus components?
Nice, man.
Nice!
Hey Ricky.. Thank you very very much for the Mage Knight base game guides! I watched them few months before when I first purchased it. Is this a specific extra rule of Volkares' senarios?
I mean the dices used for the source...
Yes, the expansion advises that you use the extra dice playing the Volkare scenario :)
Hi, nice MK videos! Where did you buy the plastic box?
thanks! Home base
i just got the base game and was able to play the initial game and a solo conquest.
I really like what i've experienced so far but is this expansion really necessary? Does it add to the game to make it more fun?
it's certainly not "necessary", but for sure it adds apsome more variety :)
Would you suggest this expansion or krang?
this one for sure... krang is just a new character ... lost Legion is a new character and then some!!
Is it possible to play 1 to 2 up to 3 or 4 players as a single player? Playing multi-handed but characters are hostile and competing with each other.
You could certainly play more than one character co-operatively - that's a great idea....
Can Lost legion expansion playable if you dont have the original MK?
It can't, no. You must have base game. There is a big box coming soon, which will have everything collected in one box.
What box is that? can't wait. I am planning on getting this game.
no details yet....
I love the video but your shuffling gives me anxiety 😅
I have a total disregard for shuffle safety... paper cuts are an occupational hazard.
@@BoxofDelights it's just an OCD thing with bending cards, but either way, your videos are awesome! ❤
look away... it only gets worse.... :)
I couldn't help but cringe when you shuffled Volkare's deck; such delicious cards shouldn't be stressed like that! >_< That's why I use the MK Dummy Player Android App whenever I go solo (which is most of the time)
