Thank you for explaining the levelling system. I stopped playing due to getting shrecked and not really getting how the game works. Kudos and I am busy reinstalling it as I type. Thanks again.
I've been playing this game for years and never realized the logic with constitution and dex 🤣🤣🤣 I always play as a dd rogue! Thank you for this vid! ❤️
For a bow, the strength of the user is going to impact how far back they can pull it, changing the energy the arrow has when it hits. Crossbows are pulled back to a latch and released from there, so you're either strong enough to latch it or not; strength would at best increase your rate of fire.
I find getting dex up to 30 and putting all of your other points into cunning is the way to go for a rogue. Throw in the bard specialization, lethality and song of courage and you'll be inflicting insane DPS.
Having only played Witcher before, everything about Dragon Age is confusing the hell out of me - I've got tons of hours in Witcher but I'm basically a newbie to gaming overall. This is super helpful, I'm going to make a spreadsheet to keep track of everything 😂
@@elvenatheart982 lol, I'm saving Baldur's Gate for after I'm done with the Dragon Age games - I definitely don't need MORE complexity in my life right now 😅
I usually only go as high as 26 Dex as a warrior. that is the highest you will need for any ability you will pick up. you do not need more than 26, but it's still useful. An arcane warrior doesn't really change much for a mage, you use your magic stat to wear armour instead of strength. If you play as the Arcane warrior tank, you might want some constitution since you don't have Dex for dodging. Or you can just put points into dex later instead of Con.
Interesting, personally I find dexterity incredibly useful, my warriors usually have it in the 40s by the later stages of the game. Arcane warriors I get up to about 20ish dexterity because I like to have them right up in the fighting. Using constitution instead does work but it just seems that dexterity has two benefits, hit rate and dodging, while constitution just gives you extra health.
For my next playthrough I'm thinking about making my character a mage with the Blood Mage and Arcane Warrior specializations, because I've heard that's a really cool combination, but I'm not sure what attributes to use. I know that I only need 16 cunning for the highest level of Coercion and other skills, strength will be useless because Arcane Warriors can use their magic attribute in place of strength, and magic and willpower are the most useful for any mage, but do I actually need to put some points into constitution this time so I'll have more health for spellcasting as a Blood Mage? And will dexterity be useful as an Arcane Warrior, like it is for normal warriors?
Yes to dexterity, no to constitution. You'll need dexterity for Arcane Warrior because you'll be up close to the enemies so you'll need a decent amount of dodge but constitution is, as always, a lie. You'll be able to use heal and drain life to keep yourself alive, it's far better to just have a massive mana pool so you can cast spells continuously and you'll barely notice the health hits from blood magic
Blood mage and arcane work because the sustained spells drain your mana but that doesn't matter when using life to cast spells. Glyph of warding at your own feet willl make the mage very hard to hit (30 melee defence, 60 to missiles). Most fights you won't need it because Blood Wound will damage and stop swarmed enemies from attacking you anyway. Use glyph early on because Blood Wound won't likely be learned until level 16. When you get the Spellweaver longsword put Grandmaster Lightning runes inside for a damage bonus.
@@Twogugshavingsix No, because when you unlock the Combat Magic spell, "regardless of whether the mode is active, an arcane warrior who has learned this spell may use the magic attribute to satisfy the strength requirement to equip higher-level weapons or armor." (according to the description on the wiki I use) So if you have a high Magic stat, which you should anyway as a mage, then you don't need the high strength.
Hmm i'm wondering if it's newb to make a new character and just have him load into awakening, or dyou playthrough all your guys' account from the very beginning? that's wht i did on my playback firs ttime. I haven't pl ayed the dlcs yet tho, adn kinda want to try it out with another class.
I love how tactical the game is but it really could have done with handling powerful spells better, in DnD dexterity and reflex saves can cut most damage spells in half but D.Age just makes warriors and rogues take full damage when defence and armor are both bypassed completely by magic.
Blood mage becomes unstoppable with high consitution - but on the whole I agree its not as good as the game leads you to believe. Also not as good due to the "healing effects received" buff being bugged (at least on console).
You are right. Constitution as well as Willpower are scams. 5 point per attribute is too little. As each pool increases passively while leveling up (around equivalent of 1 point of Willpower and Constitution), and you have access to patching your hp/mana with poultices/potions it is better to just go full offense. For mages 9 times out of 10 if your initial mana pool was not enough, you most likely will need several times the amount, which means you are chugging pots anyway. So it is better idea to have max Spellpower and getting better bang for your buck instead of using additional lyrium potions to achieve the same result. What worse it makes people craft Potent and Greater Lyrium Potions for actual use, which is really non cost efficient money wise. Strenght is somewhat under aprecieated compared to Dexterity when it comes to "tankiness". You can get massive armours without DLC by around level 7, which provides you far more survivability, than going heavy into dex at this point. High defense has problem of enemies with auto-hit talents and "grabs". No amount of defense will avoid getting pounced on by plethora of enemies. There is also far more sources of extra defence but not so many for extra armor. With 40-45 armor in end game, enemies on nightmare are hitting said character for less than 10 damage while it still has close to 300 health. With some defense and +1/+2 health regen it is impossible to die due to enemies efforts alone. I like STR+CUN on warriors and rogues. Extra sets of Master/Grandmaster runes in Origins from Ostagar improve endgame peak power potential, but also allow for quicker important purchases and snowballing through gearing your party better that they should be at current level otherwise without resorting to exploits/glitches for unlimited gold. Special shoutout for Shield Rogues - perfect frontliners and toolbox, who sprint through rogue talents because they don't need weapon talents. Kudos for you preaching the good word - DA:O with decent build is usually over by level 10-11 and can be just run hands-off. It is hillarious when you focus just on Spellpower and are able to cast Tempests in Korcari Wilds, Chains Lighting in Tower of Ishal and after Tower of Magi, have Morrigan leveled up and be ready in assisting in casting Storm of Century, which deletes enemies on nightmare from 2 screens away and through walls (80+ dmg per tick, enemies die in 3 ticks, unable to reach you) by level 8-9. Even if they survive, they lose over 200 points of stamina (cause electricity damage) so what they gonna do xD? I'm not a fan of mindset that warriors are for "tanking". From what I experienced myself and on this platform such approach prolongs playthroughs by on average 4h. I'm proponent of every party members being able to manage himself and kill enemies quickly. Exception in Buffer/Debuffer mages, who contribute damage via other means. Warriors have the easiest time one-shotting enemies. Shield Warriors on the hand can aoe tank (Reaver+Traps+Grenades) while having high crit % via bravery. If anything you could say Warriors are for threat managment.
Not sure why anybody would not be sure why it is physically impossible for your strength to apply to damage of a ranged weapon that fires based on pulling a trigger. As is understood by multiple RPGs that do not and very obviously should not apply strength bonus to crossbows.
This was a much simpler explanation than what I've found from other content creators. Thank you! I just recently started playing as a Rogue for my first playthrough. I'm only level 9. I've died in many a battle, and thanks to the unreliable auto-save I've also lost many an hour of gameplay. I think I've spread my points too thin. I may need to get a respec mod. Lol.
Ive found that the exculsion to the basics of the ststs leveling is if you play as a mage but want to become an arcane warrior you have to dump a few points into strength until you have 16 points in it so that you can use a steel longsword and use the medium chainmail armour that you get from the body of daveth after the joining and if you use the specialization glitch if you have the ultimate edition of the game before playing the main game start a side dlc like witch hunt using a gray warden character with the class you want to play save game after fully setting up that character and talking to dog then start the main game and either all the ol the specilisations for the main game will be unlocked except for rever and blood mage as you have to do something particularly evil to learn those skills as i thint that that bioware wanted to spoil all the fun

Bow users basically just go all dex for the most damage and crit

It’s the best way to get the most dps, dex build with duelist instead of bard makes soloing a breeze
Definitely have to try that

Dragon age is pretty simple, if you want something Complex check the Baldurs Gate 1 and 2 games
@@elvenatheart982 lol, I'm saving Baldur's Gate for after I'm done with the Dragon Age games - I definitely don't need MORE complexity in my life right now 😅
your hair is cute either way haha :) thanks for this video from a long term dragon age lover
Bow damage is actually 50% str and 50% dex
Crossbows rely on STR
Bows on DEX

Great guide! Just what I was looking for.
Pretty sure Dexterity improves dagger damage not Str, but maybe u mentioned and I havent been paying attention

Adorei sua voz e o sotaque britânico, entendi tudo que falou! Ajudou muito, obrigado!
Still should add one or 2 points in Con early for mages cuz if they die the game over screen is not far
Very helpful 2 years on. Thsnk you!

If you're trying to play Alistair according to how he is portrayed in the game, you'd never give him any points in willpower.
Just sayin'.
😀

Thank you so much, decided to retry it today and had a lot more fun compared to my other failed playthroughs.
Only thing i'd add is that Strength adds the same bonus to your Attack as Dexterity does. High Strength warriors can still be super accurate.
