@@maxmustermann-zx9yq yeah no upkeep to buildings. Upkeeps are divided into troops (either gold or mana), spells/enchantements (mana), and diplomacy (either gold or imperium ; maybe mana as well ?) I've watched everything that I could about the game ; but maybe I missed a couple things here and there. Cheers !

The game looks amazing in terms of options variety, also the UI seems to be really polished, something new in Age of Wonders series :) I really hope that AoW4 will be successfull.
Having Noble Wolf Riders, with Tome of Beasts seams like a strong build, with all those bonuses for staying close, only problem AOE. Will be trying Wolf Knights pretty early. Spider riding archers could also be interesting, depending on, how well "Web and Shoot" combo works.
Could you possibly do an in depth break down on the starting units of each of the cultures and what they are effective and ineffective against. I notice some cultures have two mounted units in the background and others don't. Perhaps also throw in a few of units gained by tomes such as Pyromancer? Would be good to know if any of the cultures have a slight advantage in either infantry, cavalry or magic and why.

Was a huge fan of planetfall but I tried AOW3 and just couldn't get into it but this does look like it might peak my curiosity enough to actually play it

This all looks amazing, however as an owner of Civ6 and Total War Warhammer everything I find it hard to justify buying this. My needs are already fulfilled by those. .. a demo though might convince me
Oh yeah, based upon videos I saw, there's a wide variety of races you can used as your own faction to customize. Human, Elves, Dwarves, Orcs, Cats, Rats, Toads, Goblins. There's so many to choose from. I just hope the customization within those races are numerous as well.
I hope relationship isn't harmed just because you won't forgive a grievance. That would be annoying as I've seen where factions want you to forgive grievances so they can declare a war on you cause of your grievances.
Same. It looks way more involved than heroes of might and magic when it comes to town management, diplomacy etc though. It'll take some getting used to. I still hold some hope we might get a descent heroes of might and magic sequel some day.
I still can't help but think like the actual faction traits are lacking, like they should give them more to stand out given that races don't have unique units anymore. But maybe I am wrong.
@@ombra711 Yes, but if all races play basically the same, the novelty will wear off quite quickly. And the traits just don't seem like they'll lead to any gameplay variance. "You can play as you like" only works if you have the tools to do anything differently, but as is I fail to see the options to do so, but maybe the races don't all feel the same. But again, from the videos it feels like there is lacking options to actually create variety, a problem that, as fun as planetfall was, that game also had, as I rarely felt any need to replay it like age of wonders 3 or other games of these genres.
@@redliquid6775 races only have 2 unique traits. Rest is cosmetic. Any race can be anything. It's the culture that define your race gameplay and units now. Then you upgrade your race depending on tomes you take. For example, taking the soul tome give you the ability to manage unique soul ressource. You earn it by killing units to launch specific spells or build armies of skeletons. And in late game you get to transform your race even further, permanently.
@@jacksheldon8566 Yeah, and as I said It looks like it'll be just like planetfall, a game which relatively quickly becomes stale due to a lack of gameplay mechanisms, especially early on, where all races feel samey, it gets a few DLCs which don't really make up for it and then gets abandoned.
@@redliquid6775 planetfall was just finished. After a few patch and the promised dlc they just moved on AOW4 development. I do not agree about planetfall. It had lots of interesting units/mods combo and faction were unique enough to not feel too samey.

I'd recommend watching the DEveloper stream on Diplomacy. While not much has changed, the whole system has been streamlined, polished and overall improved.
game look like it has some nice improvements (provinces, tactical battles) but imho triumph has made it way too complicated (so many resources, justifying wars). good job partye
@@franzmann3744 Haven't yet tried the game, so I only know the idea of it. But I like to declare wars without justification, just looking at the world map what I would like to do next, where to expand. If the game punishes me doing that... I don't find that an attractive idea. I hope it won't be that bad. But that alone doesn't make me not to buy this. It is just one negative expectation.
@@Aurinkohirvi There will probably be skills or spells to offset the penalty for unjustified wars, especially for evil cultures. Also, picking fights is pretty easy. Settle near them, demand resources frequently, insult them. Before long they will declare a justified war on you!

so did I see that right? buildings have no upkeep aka as long as you can afford to build a new one, there isn't any reason not to

YOU make them unique, you can create your entire rival roster as well as your own ruler and play the game as you like.

It's disappointing the diplomacy options haven't improved one bit since Planetfall compared with almost every other mechanics.

If it is close to older age of wonders you can either ignore many of the synergies and power through or you can go deep and complex

Gameplay wise, is it basically Planetfall with a fantasy theme, or is there more to it?
I think it expands on the planetfall imperium idea allowing some multiverse/realms shenanigans especially with human Multiplayer
