I just want to clarify that you can have more heroes early on without needing additional cities. The limit is a "soft cap", and going over it increases recruitment cost and upkeep cost of said hero. If you feel your economy can handle it or otherwise need the additional hero(high level heroes do provide permanent Affinity through their level 5, 10, 15 and 20 skills, for instance), then go for it.
I got an early extra hero because his special trait was a permanent +3 to Materium Affinity.
Wish this game would go live on Steam already. I am ready to play! :D

Sorry if I missed it in the video, but what’s the default max province expansion range of a city? I saw that there was a Empire Development option in the Nature affinity branch to increase it by +2.
I believe it is 2. Various buildings(those that upgrade the "tier" of the city) increases this by +1.

Does not forgiving a weakness impact relation? For example: A friendly empire trespasses and later on offers to pay gold to buy off the grievance. If you refuse the gold does it impact your relation with that friendly empire?
I think so, but some empires will actually dislike/like you more if you forgive the transgressions. Evil agressive empires will think you're a pussy if you're used to forgiving grievances, and you'll lose relations with them.

I've been loving this game. My only issue (aside from the crashes which are mainly avoidable for me at least) is the tutorial. I always hated Planetfall and AoW3's tutorials because they were SO hand holdy, but having played 4... I do wish it was a bit more hand holding. I found myself screwing up a lot because I missed opening a menu, or stepping on a space to trigger a tutorial. Ended up having to restart because I just screwed things up so much.
Though that's also because I just goofed around with the tomes and was not building optimally in even teh slightest way.
This is my first time playing a game of this type. I wish it was a bit more hand holdy lol. I have no idea what I'm doing at the moment!
@@thedarkwonder9954 I don't mind some hand holding, but when you HAVE to go to THIS EXACT LOCATION ONLY is when I struggle. AoW3 I think did it pretty well, some ability to explore around but you were still corridored in the right direction. Also included an actual story with characters to help lead you along, something 4 is sadly missing.

I won a military victory, however, I had to do it all by myself. I had alliances with the A.I., but could not see where I could ask it to join the war? I noticed it did battle others, but it would not siege a city or help me siege a city?
I can 't figure out how to play with a faction I create. There has to be a button that lets me start a game after creating my own, but I can 't find it.
What does the option Denounce do? The one that costs 100 Mana? It sais verbal warning when i hover over it and i tried to use it to warn NPC rulers not to ignore my province claims but those stupid orange cat and green gnome always travel across the entire map and build an outpost 4 provinces from my throne city at the start of the game. Not only does that force me into a war but i also get punishments for expanding my throne city because it sais i ignored claims of other rulers because of their outpost.

How do I remove unit from the army? Not killing it bit remove it so I can split it
Left click the unit in your army then it will be selected by itself and click somehwhere for it to move it'll split off.

I just started playing with a friend. We started out on the same team yet it says we are at war. We have both looked everywhere on how to stop it but there seems to be no solution. Any advice on that?
Did you play on the map that doesn't allow for alliances?
Diplomacy feels the best its ever been here. And you can sell stuff to other empires for money.
In planetfall the ai basically never had any money to spare for trading lol.
Hi, playing my first game, and I have a ton of Free City Armies just sitting in my territory marking them as "occupied" and reducing income. Is there a way to get rid of these without a war or aggression? Can I close boarders or something?
If you right click them with an army they will give you combat or peaceful options to make them leave
How and what are you guys using outposts? Edit: I mean i know how to use them...more like when i guess?!

This game seems awful overwhelming to me! Just a ton going on at any time to manage.

10:30 isn't this an objective mistake? The AI has you rivaled, you have committed 2 grievances against it, and you then forgave the one grievance they did to you... So now you are quite unjustified to declare a war on them since they haven't aggravated you, but they can justifiably declare war on you because you have 2 unresolved grievances to none. That seemed like a major strategical mishap.
You want war, that is the premise here.
[In the shown scenario] If you declare, you are unjustified, so you have penalties. But a defensive war is always "just" (no bonuses on your end but no penalties either). If you forgive the grievance, the AI is more likely to declare war, giving the conflict you desire for free. If you manage to sell the grievance, you've basically just gotten paid to have the war you desired.
@@Inightshade1 Ok I did not start with that premise. If you want to assume that he was trying to bait the AI into declaring war, then yes this is the correct course of action. Good point.
Yeah he wants to start a war but can't without getting huge penalties, so he's goading the AI into doing it instead.

As a first time 4x player, do these types of games play better on console or pc?
I prefer PC but I hear this one is smooth on console as well. I'm downloading the PC version though. Good luck! Enjoy!!!!
A lot of Strategy games have poor PC ports but AOW is pretty simple in terms of controls so it isn't that bad. I'd say to pick your favorite platform, it should work fine on either.
Obviously depends on your pc, but as far as controls go it’s hard to argue against pc over console.

they will always be better on pc just becuase of controls alone. so as long as the game runs well id say PC hands down (runs fine for me btw on pc)

Every game youtubers and their dog are posting let's plays of AoW4 and I'm shocked PE has only released a few guides.
I also miss the free city garrison units of Planetfall. While I like seeing proper siege maps with walls and etc, having to camp actual units in cities like AoW3 feels like a step backwards.
So the game came out yesterday and I fired up the launcher. To my disappointment there is no campaign in there. The Necromancer campaign for Age of Wonders 3 was great and got you immersed into the world. The 'realms' of AoW4 just feels like bubbles. I guess the 'story' is to fight off the returning Wizard Kings but at least early on there's no sense of a coherent world-building that draws you in. Granted, I've only played 2-3 hours.
The Story Realms are the closest thing to a story, it seems. When you complete one, it unlocks another.
1: dont buy the guy until when its on sale months later when the bugs and crashes are fixed
