Fantastic guide for starting out! I found it incredibly helpful. Question: How do you get those diplomacy stones. I know you start with one but how do you earn more? Comment: CRITICAL COMBAT INFORMATION CLARIFICATION - Line of Sight. You mentioned that if there are any intervening units, it will lower your chance to hit your targe. There is a HUGE exception. Thanks this was very helpful. I need to figure out how to actually build an outpost now - that wasn't obvious in my last play-through and I didn't expand.
What's missing here is a bit of a breakdown of the different builds one can go through starting from the faction creation part. Because obviously I'd guess that some starting builds are better for certain things, and to better pursue a certain type of victory (if this is anything like civ and the like), which as a beginner I have no idea about. So I could pick something that looks cool to me but just isn't very good for how I would want to play once I learn a bit about things.

I'm playing on PS5 and have encountered a few "bugs" or the game just not displaying things correctly: 1) When you do a major or minor race transformation, it does not show up under the active spells. It seems like the active spells are only showing the unit enchantments. 2) Maybe I just haven't found the option, but in terms of the "economic overview" button on the top right corner, it simply doesn't even exist on console. Playing with the a controller is fine, but I just can't seem to bring up the menu. However, when you go into one of your cities and bring up the city menu, and go to the bottom icon to annex a province, it does somewhat show those economic points of interest but it seems way more easy on PC to do so. 3) Another weird UI bug when you annex a province from a workcamp. When you do this, a menu pops up and it covers up the pin of the province. So say you annex a province (from a workcamp) that has a food or lumber tile, a sub menu pops up over it. You can still pick the pin, but you just can't "see" it.

The only part that i was interested in was the diplomacy, and i didn't like the way they implemented it. e.g. a declaration of friendship requires gold. every culture begins by not letting another faction pass though their territory, etc.
Just bought the game on Xbox series x. Unfortunately the game is unplayable, crashes every time I try to start combat. I can't find any info on patches for Xbox, so I reluctantly asked for a refund.
Can the high level race unlocks on the Pantheon be used on MP? Like if my friend has played or cheesed his way to unlock them can he have those while I with my 10 hours played do not?
I'm trying so hard to find how I can disband an army on the PS5. I'm beginning to think there's no option for it lol. Great game though. There's so much to do!
I don't know if there's an option to disband a whole army stack (I wish there was if not) but there should be a small red icon in the top right to disband a unit when you're looking at their detail screen. I'm on PC though, so not sure if it's different on ps5
I was a bit disappointed with the books. Arcane was decent Shadow was dull, and souls are meh High order was weak early game and mediocre afterwords. I haven't played the other books yet. I remember in the age of wonders 2, I literally flooded the world. It's all pretty tame in this game. All in all, it's still a solid game, though. The world map is more interesting in the other aow series. However, the battles are way better in aow 4, so I remain optimistic.
Agree. I also prefer to choose according to a moment's need. In a few rounds I might be better off with another row of buildings, making it potentially even more work of micromanagement of deadly annoyance.
I've never heard or played a game like this besides maybe on a mobile device and I'm about to drop 50 bucks on it because I'm so intrigued, I've gone as far as to think all these small youtubers are paid by Paradox and their devs are leaving these helpful little comments, but it's also because this game is special in the sense you can generate so many outcomes and there's just so much depth. But not much goes on during the gameplay its like one of those you just gotta jump in and see but 50$ is a tall task. But I'm gonna do it. I'll wait for Dead Island and Jedi Survior to go on sale.
@@ItsTheIceIceBaeBae some of them might be paid , but the game is fun , I'm very skeptical but I bought the game because of its customization and wide variety of races. It's great if you have friends into D&D or table top .
So grateful for your guide! You're the only RUclipsr that really touched on the nuances of the game that I needed confirmation on. This is my first 4X game so it's pretty overwhelming but you pretty much simplified everything for me. Easy sub!
Hands down the best beginner guide for Age of Wonders 4. No doubt it might be longer than other shorter guides but many have missing bits here and there. This is the one video you need that gives you all the comprehensive information you need, and elaborates further on the UI and mechanics of each phase, that might not be evident on first sight (especially for newcomers) but I find myself returning back to this video for refreshers and am amazed that the parts where I needed help was still being covered (despite forgetting about it on first viewing. Thank you ItalianSpartacus for making this. It is really extremely helpful! You have a great ability at explaining the various nuances that is missing from the standard tutorial in-game from a newcomer's perspective.
Thank you for making such a thorough tutorial! One minor topic suggestion that seems to be missing is seafaring, embarking, and nautical combat! Liked and subscribed!
this video has been a boon for me! thank you i played the original age of wonders a long time ago and saw AoW4 brought it and was imediately confused lol. still i got some fun made a halfling called "Frodo Baggins" made the halflings evil AF and loading up the game i was greeted with "Greetings Dark Lord Frodo Baggins,........" i swear i burst out laughing. i got to about 2 hours into the game all the while confused as to what i was doing then it crashed lol. i guess tolkein saw what i did and used his godlike power to prevent the greatest threat ever known......... an evil frodo who was corrupted by the one ring, turning the halflings into an evil hellish race of unstoppable migits XD. thats when i decided i needed help and thank god your video was at the top of the list. also i cant remember what thing did it but when creating frodo baggins the armour set had that complete mordor vibe and it kinda made go into the evil frodo tangeant lol. Edit: the back story i had in my mind was that Frodo finally became seduced by the one ring stabbing sam in the back and tossed Golom into the lava lake of mount doom to which shortly after he wore the one ring and proceeded to kill sauron, claiming the throne of Mordor for himself. in the midst of all this gandalf felt a great disturbance falling to his knees and said "Frodo no, what have you become! im afraid we are all now doomed for a new Dark Lord has risen, one more powerful and more terrible than sauron ever was."
This is a great game, I've been having a blast with it still. The updates have smoothed out a few initial issues, but I've heard the mulitplayer is still a little rough. I exclusively play single player, and I can't get enough. The customization of worlds, heroes, and races makes for endless replayability. I can't say enough good things about it. It just scratches a unique itch, haha.
Hey man, thank you for taking the time and effort to make this kind of video. I just recently bought Age of Wonders 4 (On PS5) and this video has been really helpful in learning the game. This is the first 4x game I've really dabbled in, but I've always been curious about them. But they were really intimidating to try and get into, because it seemed like there are just so many movement parts to learn and understand. Your video has made this process alot easier. I'm not magically proficient at this game now, but I do at least have a lot better understanding on what I'm trying to do now.
Hey new player here with a question. So when im building a new structure it has a cost at the bottom like 150 food 250 production. Though say I only have 50 food and 60 production it still lets me build? I'm kind of confused about the resources.

Yes! I believe so!
So how do we recruit units beyond tier 3
Tome units and units from ancient wonders!
@@italianspartacus thank you mate
wow...this is so difficult. Learning curve is high. We need a Prima Guide. Remember those?
Still have most of mine!! Hahaha
Play with Turin again man. He's always talking about trying to get you to play.
I told him yes to playing!!
@@italianspartacus haha 😂
I'm trying so hard to find how I can disband an army on the PS5. I'm beginning to think there's no option for it lol.
Great game though. There's so much to do!
I don't know if there's an option to disband a whole army stack (I wish there was if not) but there should be a small red icon in the top right to disband a unit when you're looking at their detail screen. I'm on PC though, so not sure if it's different on ps5
@lockjaw00 you're correct on ps5 we have to disband one at a time was like that in planetfall as well.
When on the menu showing your army, choose the unit you want to release and you'll be able to move them out (similar to just controlling a character).
I was a bit disappointed with the books.
Arcane was decent
Shadow was dull, and souls are meh
High order was weak early game and mediocre afterwords.
I haven't played the other books yet. I remember in the age of wonders 2, I literally flooded the world. It's all pretty tame in this game.
All in all, it's still a solid game, though. The world map is more interesting in the other aow series. However, the battles are way better in aow 4, so I remain optimistic.
I can't put it down!!
Game keeps crashing for me!!! Beware
Finally, not a tutorial that is so dry!
This game is missing end game crisis. Stellaris started it and every game since has been better for it.
Queuing buildings is the worst possible thing you can do. Youre tying up gold for literally no reason...
Agree.
I also prefer to choose according to a moment's need.
In a few rounds I might be better off with another row of buildings, making it potentially even more work of micromanagement of deadly annoyance.
Game is so hard to learn…
Your nexus is sold out!!!
I freakin love my dark toads
So cool seeing this game get so much attention
What do you mean? this is not a small studio making it.
It’s an amazing game!
@@ItsTheIceIceBaeBae and I’m not paid by anybody!
@@ItsTheIceIceBaeBae some of them might be paid , but the game is fun , I'm very skeptical but I bought the game because of its customization and wide variety of races. It's great if you have friends into D&D or table top .
Thanks!
Just saw this dude!! thank you so much that's so kind of you!
@@italianspartacus no worries man, thanks for making good content
This is my first 4x/strategy game ever, and this has helped immensely! My first blind game was a mess
Best AoW4 tutorial video I've seen so far. Thanks!
Thanks brother!!
Thank you for making such a thorough tutorial! One minor topic suggestion that seems to be missing is seafaring, embarking, and nautical combat! Liked and subscribed!
As always, excellent guide
this video has been a boon for me! thank you i played the original age of wonders a long time ago and saw AoW4 brought it and was imediately confused lol.
still i got some fun made a halfling called "Frodo Baggins" made the halflings evil AF and loading up the game i was greeted with "Greetings Dark Lord Frodo Baggins,........" i swear i burst out laughing. i got to about 2 hours into the game all the while confused as to what i was doing then it crashed lol.
i guess tolkein saw what i did and used his godlike power to prevent the greatest threat ever known......... an evil frodo who was corrupted by the one ring, turning the halflings into an evil hellish race of unstoppable migits XD.
thats when i decided i needed help and thank god your video was at the top of the list.
also i cant remember what thing did it but when creating frodo baggins the armour set had that complete mordor vibe and it kinda made go into the evil frodo tangeant lol.
Thankyouu very much. i was thinking of playing for 1 year but didt knew where to start
About to play this not played a strategic game in 15 years, I've truly effed it havent I
Hey new player here with a question. So when im building a new structure it has a cost at the bottom like 150 food 250 production. Though say I only have 50 food and 60 production it still lets me build? I'm kind of confused about the resources.
I was waiting for this. Thanks a ton, Spart!
I'm here for you brother!
Thank you... very informative. Are there any other Spartacuses except Italian?
