to prevent these deths, make sure you get a big enough tank, this one still too small. but if youre cant change tank yet for some reason, i recommend removing the decor. bettas prefer plants and greens. i once remove the plants and they jumped outside in search of their safety green shade
bettas would love to travel far, they're adventurous. trust me as ive learned this the hard way, having to sacrified 2 fish. so a rather long and wide tank should do, twice as big is good
pothos tend to rot in some part, which any betta wouldnt appreciate, i reccomend a floater, and plant species that adapt to underwater growth entirely, and find a way to safely add leaf tannins to the water, if you dont like the yellowish color, just add until the tank nearly change color, cause these substance contain beneficial nutrients that all bettas love
