  • The crystal collector checks out a public dig location for these awesome Geode crystal formations! Not even realizing until later that these geodes are rare and have a nice green fluorescent glow with a shortwave flashlight style UV light.
    This site will leave you amazed!
    One of the best geode sites in America!

      The roads are wash boards with dirt and rocks. And do NOT aim your camera at Dugway Proving Grounds if you stop at Simpson Springs. The Army doesn't like it when you do that and won't hesitate to come speeding up the road and tell you to stop! LOL
      It's a rough drive for a few hours to get there, but so much fun to get down in the dirt and dig up all the geodes you can find!
      Also, if you're lucky, you might get a glimpse of the herds of wild mustangs that call our West Desert home. If the gov't hasn't taken them away yet!🙄

    I remember going out there when the turn off to the beds was marked by a paper plate, with an arrow pointing to the right drawn on it, nailed to a wooden post! LOL
    We would stop off at Topaz Mountain on our way home and try our luck at finding some topaz and amethyst, but would only find clear shards of topaz from being out in the sunlight. Back then it took a 4x4 to drive up the side of the steep mountain to get to the mine.
    If you want to go out to the beds the best times are April and May or Sept and Oct. otherwise it's way too hot in the summer or frigid, snow and ice in the winter out in our West Desert. There are no shade trees, services, or amenities, but it's great fun to dig down in the sand & dirt and find some beautiful geodes to take home with you!

    Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't shortwave UV light pretty bad to expose your skin to? Pretty sure the shorter the wavelength, the easier it can damage your DNA and cause cancer. Probably not too bad with these short exposures, but that stuff can add up over time.

    • @TheCrystalCollector
      @TheCrystalCollector  Год назад +1

      It’s similar to what you get from the sun but a little more concentrated, so yes, it would be dangerous to put it at your skin for long periods. It’s not too different fro the old school tanning beds But short term is no problem whatsoever.
