It's always interesting, you often get what you need, if you know where to look. I had a bad night, filled with negative self-talk, as is my default. Then of course I slept poorly. This 11 minutes was exactly what I needed this morning. This short video was master class in self-talk. My one big takeaway was 'No wonder I struggle at times! Negative self-talk.' Keep it coming brother.

At 7:27 Cav talks about seeing yourself in the 3rd person. Marcus Aurelius talks about there's Perception ( what you think is going on ) then there's visually what's going on, Perspective is a good word that seems that up.
NLPers Love and master seeing things in the 3rd person point of view because it takes you out of your perceptions into a wider Perspective.

Thoughts, thinking, contemplation, meditating, self-mediating. Depression, as you say, is a luxury, just as you have said comfort, is a luxury, and again, as you have taught is selfish, and ultimately, selfishness is self-destructive.
Identifying the sources of thoughts. Where do they come from? How many come form self teaching? How many are inspired from the Holy Spirt. Which one are from sources of evil.
Should be pretty plain, and one sure sign it aint good is when thoughts are selfish.
Become your best friend - but be a damn good friend, one that builds self-reliance. Never forget the humility that we know, that the thoughts we receive, whether they come from our wisdom, our regret (again, one of your big lessons), or your surprising successes, have an ignition, a pathogenesis, or source beyond us and yet within us, and we must be grateful.
A motto - Superavi Te - Overcome yourself. merci mon bon frere - another good lesson.
There is SO much value here.

Your environment also plays a part in self talk. I grew up with a pissed off single dad of 3. Would beat the sh1t out of me and my sister if he had a bad day etc. I don’t hold anything against him because I know it must have been hard for him but I don’t talk much to him these days. I grew up to be mad like him always starting trouble. I joined the Corps and it got worse. Finding out my girlfriend of 10 years was cheating on me meanwhile I have dudes banging on my door to get down 1 on 1. The Marines Was brutal experience for me mentally but I never backed down surprisingly. I tried to play my position best as I could. Also I’m born & raised in San Diego like you Taylor. Huge respect to you from coming out the chaos & flames I feel that’s my thriving environment. Very addicting yet toxic.

GREAT GREAT topic T, you said alot there and it's bang on! Key word I got from this was PRACTICE! I've had times in my life where I was falling to pieces, beating the fuck out myself. I either had to sink or start swimming, I wanted to swim. My mind was was like a wild untrained horse, and all full of delusional crazy thoughts, eventually through constant positive self talk, I was able to gain better control. Not easy but had to be done to survive. Was like the mind was full of negative signs and I had to over take it with positive signs, and look into that mirror everyday and say "your worthwhile". Man, if somebody treated me the way I treated myself,...lol man they'd be in trouble lol. Thanks for these vids, your planting good seeds to the world bro. Keep it on!

This self talk episode really has resonated with me. I have tried at various times explaining self-talk to my son via psychology "self fulfilling prophecy" and it never quite impacted him or he never fully understood what it meant. Your discussion made sense to him....probably because it didn't come from his Dad - ha! Anyway - I am printing off some of the positive statements you made during the video and framing them for He and Myself. We can both reference them to elevate our game/life. Appreciate the topic Taylor and the deep explanation and passion while delivering the message.

I mastered self talk a while ago,I have a 3/4 length mirror by my front door.
Every morning I grab my keys, food and my identity card from under this mirror and I look long and hard into the mirror and I say "Dude you look fantastic have an awesome day"
Every situation where I have had to step out of my comfort zone I have said "I can do this because it is what it is, and it ain't what it ain't and at the end of the day it's still night.
If it all goes to rat shit, I'll go back and do it again differently!!!!!!!

Miyamoto Musashi mentions many times “Know one self, then know others” and he mentions in the Go Rin No Sho “See the way in all things” I think you are communicating many of those same ideas . Musashi even mentions after having a long career that he did not truly know the way of strategy until he was 29-30. As impressive as being a former SEAL/Legionnaire you are only now hitting your full stride.

Glad you brought this up. I have to catch myself and redirect my thoughts many times every day. Refocus on goals and positive attributes I'm working on, form a clear picture of the desired outcome. It does me no good to dwell on shortcomings or past mistakes, actually drains energy off like you mentioned. I remind myself: If you're not for yourself, who will be? It's not narcissism or vanity, just a simple reminder to be more positive and constructive when dealing with setbacks.

You know Machiavelli was great at this. Machiavelli was not any different than many of the great philosophers except his contributions were different. He was around with DaVinci, Michaelangelo, Medici...For example, Michaelangelo or Machiavelli might explain or contrast the actual Last Battle of Anghiari differently than Da Vinci who was commissioned to paint a picture of the battle. The thing about Machiavelli was that the same family he brought to power lost power supposedly because of him. The people were upset and the Prince, oor the family had to imprison him. The truth as I understand was the family did not listen to him, he was notput into a normal prison, but was made to self reflect a lot. The real family admonished him, but he has his supporters that would come to visit occasionally. He would go a long long time alone, thinking, self -talking...When the prince would come to visit, they had spoken and he had become great. Wrote his book, "The Prince" and had many philosophies. One of his greatest contributions was his theory of holding power and how to remain in power, after all, what is left really. The original Ideas of warfare, militant thinkers were often contemporary, he had to change it just a little bit to make it better. After all, he was in prison, no visitors, nobody except the royal family ever went to see him in the 10 or 12 years he served of a 20 year sentence. Machiavelli is a well known philosopher, advisor, military analysts, but nobody knows his greatest works were brought about in self-talking. Some of the guards who stood watch by him would go on to say the man was crazy, he talked to himself all the time, sometimes laughing, other times crying, he thought he was alone, but never really. I think the problem here is that the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles did not have on called Machiavelli😅I prefer DaVinci myself. The thing about these guys is they were all pretty much the same, reclusive, smart, chosen by royalty or wealth, but critical of each others works. Not openly critical, more subtle. What survives today from the writings, teachings, books, are what their contributions were to society. Mostly what was popular, but after examining the life of Machiavelli his path was different than all the others because of his imprisonment. It has been said his greatest works cam from that time. He was falsely accused, the imprisoned by the same people he had brought back to power. The come back for the royal family was very, very immense and although this may be an extreme example of Self-Talking, he had to do it everyday and labeled as a madman for it. I could just imagine what it was like not knowing the language, and all you guys thrown together not knowing each other's language. You did what you know, you did good. I imagine you do not even have to think about it anymore. The Renaissance Era taught us a lot, change is good for one. Reinventing ourselves is no easy task, but repetition, support, motivation, the positive reinenforcement helps out so much brother. One other thing we learned when in Rome, you do not always have to do what the Roman's did😂Thanks for sharing Cav💪👈🫂
