Excellent review! I’m going on my 5th month of my journey and I’m really liking the ECBP’s so far I have the three 22’s and I found a C920 on a shelf(in 2023) for 20 dollars more than the usual price and it’s great! It’s 5/12/23 and here in California the C922’s are out but still waiting on the A123:(
I wish I would have skipped out on 2021 and bought 3 bottles of B520. A122 is good I am already a third of the way through my bottle.

Love the Flair, Stylin and Profilin. Missed out on the B520 so will prob have to grab this A122. My A120 has been too hot for me lately.

Just got my first bottle of ECBP A122!
Just picked up a bottle of A122 for $70, so I hope it's good. After being disappointed by the C921, I swore I wouldn't bother with future Elijah Craig barrel proof bottles - but here I am:).
An Elijah Craig "down year" is still better bourbon than 90% of what's out there, especially for the price.

Yeah. And for that reason I’ll pay up to 100 for these. They aren’t easy to find in Reno. Found two a122 today at 160 each and bought both for 200 cash. I just find all ECBP to be super enjoyable- Even the 21s.

Never seen any of ECBP in Ohio. Took a trip to Illinois last weekend and saw a liquor store on the way in Indiana so got off on the exit. Got lucky. They had one bottle A122 for $69 and one bottle of Redbreast Cask Strength for $89. Two additions I’ve been hunting for awhile.
B520 is one of the best pours ive had overall. Not just out of ECBP. Rationing what little I have left.

Great review. I had very similar tasting notes. I would say that A122 is one of my top picks for 2022 so far. At retail, this is my number one pick for the year!

This is my first ECBP and man its hot. I think i'm still getting used to higher proofs and prefer things in the 100-115 range. I do get some of the finish and tried it over a rock as well. I'm going to put it in the back row of my cabinet and come back to it when my palate is better trained for higher proofs.
I can’t believe it. A B batch beating an A batch in taste. Well I just got the A122 batch so I hope I’ll enjoy it.

Gonna go out and grab some of this today. Glad to see them back on their game. Got the A121 on the bar now, but a good stock of C920 and B520 in reserve.
Sent this as a blind sample to my brother and he asked if it was ecbp 520. It's definitely a big step back up compared to all the 2021 bottles. Great review.
Jason you’re like my spirit animal. B520 was my favorite too, and I too have a backup bottle! I think the A122 was as close to B520 as I’ve had in terms of just “enjoyment”
You should totally do a Double Bass between Willett Family Estate Rye and Wilderness Trail Single Barrel Rye. About $60 MSRP, 4 years old, usually around 110 proof and barrel strength.
Superb review of the A122..I was skeptical because of the ECBP 2021 releases BUT I will crack my A122 ASAP now 🥃💪🏾
Haven't had B520 but the A122 is definitely what I expect from a (very) good ECBP. At $80, probably the best booze, dollar for dollar, that I've gotten this year.

My first ECBP and loving it. I get all those oak and sweet notes but to me it's a chocolate bomb in the best possible way. Cheers!
As a roll of thumb, I always grab 2 if I see them. After cracking this bottle, I’m wishing I grabbed a 3rd!! Another great video!!
Great comparison. Would love to see how this compares to C921, which seemed like your favorite ECBP from last year. C921 was my first ECBP and wondering if A122 is super different given the similar proof.
I am finishing a bottle of the C921 this weekend. Definitely the better of the underwhelming releases from 2021. Very deep dark oaky flavors with not too much of the usual dark fruit and nutty notes that the ECBP has. The A122 definitely is totally different than the C921and is alot closer to the great releases of 2019 and 2020. A122 has more of the rich nutty profile with more of a citrus and red fruit note balance. Definitely a hitter and super comparable to a nice Stagg Jr. I highly recommend getting the A122. I need to get another bottle myself. I am about 60% of the way through my bottle now.

Definitely buy it along with the dinosaur bones and unicorn horns.. that's about how easy ECBP anything is to find. Unless you're a RUclipsr these guys all seem to have it
Love the comparison. Agree it is a touch sweeter in taste, and a little less complex on the finish. Maybe its me, but I think it needs a cube or dash of water, not to open up, but just to cut the burn. For reference, i do enjoy many barrel proofs neat, but those have more viscosity than this one.

True story. Went into my local store last week and noticed a 1.75L bottle of Buffalo Trace so I bought it. Then my wife says there is one bottle of Eagle Rare there (which I haven't seen in a year) so I pulled that one down to buy. But the checkout gal says you can't buy those two just the one. So I put the Eagle Rare back and bought the Buffalo Trace. I am through putting up with this shit. I love my Elijah Craig and Makers Mark. I would recommend that everyone boycott Buffalo Trace products until they stop with the BS.

Compared against C921, I definitely felt A122 was darker but also a bit nuttier. Not always a fan of the nuttiness so sometimes I do reach for the C921 over the A122. But yea overall A122 is a step above.
A122 is first batch of ECBP I've seen in real life so I grabbed it last week. Probably "overpaid" according to what the Internet says, but for the specs it carries and as a big fan of regular ECSB I'm hoping it doesn't let me down
How much did you pay for yours? My first ECBP I paid 90 a few years ago but here in NC after tax in stores it’s like $75 so that’s not too bad
Love my B20 but I really like the A22 better!!! But really close

I just purchased an a122 an hour ago in Houston TX for $125. I splurged... anyway, not worth it. It's comparable to jack daniels single barrel, barrel proof, which is half the price (if you can find it). Then again, I have a complicated relationship with Elijah craig. What makes it so desirable only reveals itself later at the bottom of the bottle you are drinking. My bottle of toasted barrel (purchased a week ago) finally made sense as I was finishing the bottle. I suspect the barrel proof will be the same

@@beerme8949 yeah... my employer gave me a 6 percent pay raise so i splurged. This bottle is the first and only bottle of ECBP I've ever seen, and I have access to some really gigantic liquor stores in Houston (Spec's, Total Wine, Goodie). I've seen only one bottle of EJ toasted barrel and EC barrel proof ever. I'm relatively new to the bourbon thing, but the ECBP is a unicorn in my book.

My thoughts on ECBP. People are crazy to critique recent batches of this bourbon even if the proof has “come down” in recent years. As if it’s low proof or something. It’s still 120 proof!!! I mean come on. Any other distillery, if they came out with a 12-year 120 proof bourbon, they would charge WAY more than $70. It would be more like $150-$170. The value of ECBP cannot he understated. It’s an unbelievable deal and we should all just be thankful it’s still accessible. Look at other distilleries. Jack Daniels comes out with a 10-year, less than 100 proof, and everyone freaks out to get it. It’s heavily allocated and it’s over $100. Michters has a 10-year and it goes for like $200-$250. This bourbon is tragically underrated even if it gets some praise out there
Also. Every review of ECBP has to compare it to the previous batches. I get that, but I also think it’s important to just judge the whiskey in the bottle on its own merit. Is it good or not? I’ve never had a bad bottle of ECBP. They’ve all been stunning
10+ lower proof points difference in flavor is pretty big. If u can buy any 2020 or older batches, then u ignore these totally. So I disagree.
A 12-year 120 proof Heaven Hill product for $70 should be completely ignored? Interesting!
@@Matt-qc5iw yep 100% u ignore these, if u can still buy the older batches as I said. ECBP current and future batches will continue to be less and less in quality than any the batches before 2021 until they finally discontinue the product when they run too low on 12 year barrels.
Not to rag on Heaven Hill, as that’s the general case with all bourbon, the older stuff is always better than the current stuff due to high demand, and we’re seeing that now with ECBP.

I think your review may be spot on, only because I read another review posted yesterday that ranked B522 last behind both A122 and C921.

Jason, How long after you open a bottle of Elijah Craig before it goes flat or bad? If I start a bottle and love it, can I keep it half full to compare to others releases years later? What is your take on length of time it stays prime once opened?
you normally have about 1.5 years if there is a good amount of whiskey in the bottle. Air is what can cause a whiskey to start to change after a long period of time. When it comes to saving a bottle you really love?.....transfer the whiskey to a smaller bottle so air doenst effect it as much and you can stretch the life of that whiskey out for a long time.
So far Cs have been better, think I'll hold off till C922

It's definitely good but to my shock and horror, I thought Larceny C921 was better in a head to head.
And now after 2 weeks open A122 has transformed into a flammable Snickers bar and is totally over the top!

Let’s be real. It’s not that good. Anyone who says A122 is better than all 2021 releases is lying to themself. Bought one; wouldn’t buy again.
The stupid barrel program will lower the quality overall. The same thing will happen to Stagg Jr.

It’s no accident ECBP has been less than 123 proof since A121. They’re running out of 12 year barrels that’s why ECBP is lower proof / quality now, it’s all they got left. All the best barrels are gone. Eventually they’ll discontinue the product, and the younger 9-year Sib product will take its place.
@@jasono.1629 age really has nothing to do with proof. Its really about where the whiskey has been aging in the rickhouse. if they were using younger bourbon they cant put 12 years on the label by law.

sorry I meant to get across I think the 12 year barrels they’ve been using since 2021 are inferior to the 12 year barrels from 2020 and before. Why that is, I’m guessing because they’re simply running out of them. Less 12 yr barrels to pick and choose from to create their blended product.
