I have small question .. I tried many setups from different brands but all failed, and I like to ask you, can you still hear the other crew and each other in loud envierment? like weddings? halls? where there is loud music? dance party? cause my crew in the dance floor at weddings, cant hear each other cause the mic pick the music and make everyone hears bad sound? have you experience that with the hollyland?
Ryland! Thank You for making these videos. You have such a genuine heart and face on camera; thanks for helping teach us in the Church Production world what we need to be excellent! -Nathan R :)
Well done @rylandrussell. Super informative video. I am moving to the HollyLand from EarTec in part because of the volume of the headset (I guess we run a loud FOH) and the expandability with HollyLand. I like my camera trainees to hear the director even when observing so they have a perspecitve of how the camera person responded.
One note about the distance test: since you turned a few times, the actual distance was never 1000 feet. At the furthest point in the parking lot, the distance was probably close to 400 feet, which is still impressive considering the obstacles. 1000 feet could cover the entirety of a football stadium if each unit is placed at a corner, and the line of sight would likely improve connection
We have the Eartecs. I'd love something a little louder but we love the dual ear options and in my understanding, the C1s aren't expandable to more than 6 units. We need at least 8 for our video team which I can have with the Eartecs.
Nice. Ya if you like the dual ears there isn’t much reason to change. I believe Hollyland does have an 8 unit version. www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1696278-REG/hollyland_hl_solidcom_c1_8s_solidcom_c1_8s_full_duplex_wireless.html/?ap=y&gclid=CjwKCAjwur-SBhB6EiwA5sKtjttRmjqoEmjOTWHVmr3194sYaQ1H295mt3zLab3nwyVbVjXLUyhLDxoC2sUQAvD_BwE&lsft=BI%3A514&smp=y
@@RylandRussell Oh cool, I hadn't seen that yet. Another video said Master headset plus 5 more headsets max. Still, that's about $500 more than we paid for a 10 headset Eartec system last June. Maybe worth it, but we've been really happy with the Eartecs as well although I do think the audio quality is pretty terrible.
Hey Joshua, C1 has several options like 4s/6s/9s, etc. With the 9s, it even has a hub base option with A/B group communication. Maybe you can give a try~
We have a first gen Eartec system and 6 years after it sill works good enough. The question that bugs my head is how the Hollyland is when the level of noise is quite loud, concert level :) The Eartec are fine, but sill would not use it for more than 35m-50m (100-150Ft)
Hey bro! First of all great video! Love the work that you do! I did have a question though. How were you able to record the audio from the headsets? Just wondering!
Yes it’s a little better quality, but the volume is the big seller. My cam ops said it was way easier to hear our director vs the Eartecs. Our Eartec units are single ear for cam ops.
Another major consideration you may want to take into account is the tech inside the headsets. Eartec is using DECT which, at least for my team when we demo'd at NAB, was much lower latency than using GHz bands. Now I didn't try this system specifically, but Eartec had an unreleased version that uses 1.9 or 2.4 we demoed alongside Ultralite, and the latency was easily double or more on the GHz models. Curious what the difference was like for you between the 2 systems.. more delay from Hollyland? Part of the reason we are looking to go this route is because of the latency Discord has going through the network, so having something with similar latency would be non-ideal and that level of latency was in that GHz wideband model of the Eartec's. To be clear, Discord has still been a usable level of latency and so would that Eartec system using GHz wideband, but it's just noticeable enough to be a nuisance and be uncomfortable for the control room guys to all be on the call together and hear the delay. Not so with Ultralite. Anyways, just my 2 cents! Thanks for making the vid & comparison.
Weird. They both use DECT in 1.9 ghz. Or 1900 mhz. Their specs are exactly the same it looks to me. I didn’t notice any latency differences and my team hasn’t complained. 🤷🏼♂️
I think the hollyland mic is more omnidirectional than Eartec. Which is both good and bad. Good for ears dropping as camera assistant. Bad for extra noise coming into the headsets.
We use them in a loud church PA environment and the feedback I got from my camera ops are that the Hollyland units are louder and easier to hear than the Eartec. I'm not sure if they would be great for an Arena with huge PA....
@@RylandRussell How many years have you had the Eartec's? When I was talking to the guys in the Eartec booth, they were saying that at one point they upgraded the Ultralite line up to have a higher output volume overall, sometime in 2018... not to say older units were still out there being sold from big box guys (i.e. they phased out bundling their 8 port charger with multi-sets and now exclusively bundle 10 ports, but on B&H they seem to mainly have 8 port charger bundles). Just something to think about if you had like a model number or something to compare to what they are shipping now opposed to whenever you purchased before.
Normally when we use the normal walkie system near the speakers you can't hear nothing the other person is saying. How does these hollyland work in noisy environments?

Hey there, just wondering if the holyland or the eartecs comm system be patched into your digital mixer ? So that you can communicate to either the MD or people on stage ? Thanks
We have the Eartecs and have eight headsets with the base station. We love ours. Not sure we can go back to having less headsets. Thanks for this great review.
@@RylandRussell I already have tens of thousands of dollars of wireless audio equipment. Good review, well done…. But why cut to a close up side view of your face…. Very distracting…. you have lost eye contact with the viewer…. So many others are doing the same thing…. Makes me wonder if you are trying to impress people that this is a two camera shoot…. If you’re shooting 4K, just punch in the same front view shot to get a closer view. How were you recording the output from the Hollyland?
Lapel mic stuck inside the earcup.

Have you used it near the led wall or on back of it ?

Give them to a missionary in another country is probably the best bet.

Hi, Maybe you could try SARAMONIC Witalk systems, I think it's better.
for a full system with hub, hollyland is twice more expensive than eartec.
Yes. At that point I would for sure go Eartec.
Almost true. We also need to keep the add-ons in mind for the C1 HUB system as well, such as unlimited cascading feature, UAC, one-key announce, etc.

The mics sound pretty bad for singing. Do you know a headset that would be shaped like this for stage singers?
Hmm for singing? You are going to need a wireless transmitter and then buy a headset that pairs with those. What is your budget?
