To me, 1979 will always be defined by 3 Albums, Regatta de Blanc, London Calling and Damn the Torpedoes. Rock n Roll was so healthy back then. This Performance is Beyond Awesome!
Healthy, exactly! Well described.
Andy Summers got killer tone going on in this performance. I would expect nothing less.
Tone is indeed killer!
That “round” sound you hear is basically given by his Telecaster through a “MXR Phase 90 Script” and a “Dyna Comp” effect, on Marshall Plexi amp.

More than likely an electric mistress
the quality of this is INSANE. kudos for the team that kept the film prints and transferred them over to digital.
👏👏👏
The sound is good also.lol I remember getting in a concert late BUT the folks wanted me in so I ended up Next to the Bass Player lol ON the damm stage hahha
Message In a Bottle is Smells Like Teen Spirit of 1980s!😊
Bolshevik menace
damn that guitar is beautiful. Andy is a great guitarist! Very under appreciated!
if you like Teles check out mine ruclips.net/video/Ekh78sTMU0M/видео.html
Lol very under appreciated....by who? You?
@@lamargent5434 I understand what he said and I agree, Andy deserves a higher rate in polls.
@@Antonivs Are you guitarist? I am. Guitarists generally knows what A.S. brings in-
@@lamargent5434 I am guitarist, I met Andy Summers in person, I know perfectly every detail about his guitars and effects, so, I tell you, Andy is very underrated, he deserves a higher place in polls of greates guitarists of all time. I hate when some charts puts Kurt Cobain or Kirk Hammet over Andy.
I thought most high quality videos about the police live were already released, happy to say im gladly surprised with this one :D
You and me both!
This one is shot on 16mm film. Modern scan = outstanding quality
@@Kyzox2000 audio bottoms out tho🙁
+
@@elless4004yeah the audio sucks. Video looks great though. They need to restore the audio.
Andy kills it!He can even drop out & keep the vibe. This band played using the space between the notes.
I think he dropped his pick lol
I’m a guitarist, probably he dropped it one time, but when he plays the harmonics on the refrain he is fingerpicking..
Song first
Stewart is a master of using space. His beats were the core of the music, and Sting's voice and Andy's guitar meshed and balanced perfectly.
One of the best bands of all time. Great on record and awesome live.
love how the fans are right up in their faces - such a visceral looking performance. Stew was off is nuts on those octobans and I'm here for it!
I actually got to hang with them, in the early 80s when I was in HS. My Aunt worked and dated the late great Hawaii Concert Promoter Ken Rosene. Rode with them in a limo from Honolulu Airport l. Got to their gig at UH Manoa campus. Watch them do blow before they hit the stage for about 200 fans, did their Outlandos songs, but played their Two new song Message in a bottle and walking on the moon. Nice guys joking around like tourist about luaus and beaches, never at that time, knew how giant rock icons they would become. Still a huge fan and I'm 58.
as per usual Stews drumming is something from beyond this universe.. GD Genius
I always wished there would be a drumcam video of him for an entire concert. I'm a guitar player but when I see live videos of the Police, and several other bands, all I want to see is the drummer.
Was crazy over this trio when I was a teenager. Saw them twice and they were awesome. Will forever be a fan of The Police.
Hello Jacqueline..
Which tours did you see Jacqueline if i may ask? And where?
I saw them twice, in Gothenburg 1982 and in Stockholm 1983 and of course they did great shows both times!
@@ovepayne i saw them once in 1983 in Barcelona (Sting's 32th birthday). Then 10 times in the reunion tour, as i was slightly older😁 and with some money to travel....
@@xaviermartorivilardebo9089 Sounds great, and I´m sorry to say I missed the reunion tour. I´m sure t was great to see them in Barcelona, a city I have visited many times!
Stewart Copeland played always at maximum. Big bang energy.
THE POLICE best band ever! 👮♂️❤👮♂️❤️👮♂️❤️
Ciao, anche io mi chiamo Laura
No s si es la mejor de todos los tiempos pero yo los empecé. A escuchar en los 80 hasta el día de hoy y son exelentes impecables
If I'm not mistaken this is the fastest live performance I've seen and heard of this song, the drummer is insane.
Sting would probably agree with you.
@@Genious. You honor me...thanks 🤝
I think what he meant is that Sting hated that Stewart was always rushing the songs
Sounds way better faster.
Actually no, I heard much faster versions when they performed the tune during the Ghost in the machine and Synchronicity tour…
I feel now, the same way I did when I first heard this! 💜💜 Became a fan in 1979 when I was 11..I'm 53 and still listen to them everyday 😄
Nice!
I feel the same way.. Became a fan first time Roxanne hit the radio. Bought Outlandos d´amour on vinyl (still have and play it) in spring of 1979 when i was 7 or 8.. I´m 51 and still listen to them almost everday ;)
@@elCaxi1971 😄👍👍 I'm glad I'm not the only one who does it!!
me too, but I was 15 in 1979. Hello from France.
same as me...only i became a fan one year later...in 1980 and i´m one year older....54....and i also listen to them every day....must be an obsession...don´t you think? hahaha......
I have seen several versions of this live, and Copeland changes the rhythm every time his improvisation is amazing. I am a drummer myself and he's th biggest influence on me,his mind is wired differently, he knows he has to provide the rhythm for the song, but it's almost like he is not capable of providing the same beat for a song two nights in succession, just a totally astounding drummer.
He's totally the GOAT. Can't believe this man has been killing it since before I was born.
I got to see Stewdaddy Copeland live the other day(He drums for Oysterhead) and he is STILL mind-blowing.
When people ask him about specific fills on their records, he doesn't know because everything is improvised. The exact opposite of Neil Peart but both are icons in their own way.
Check him out with oysterhead
Oh man would I love to be that close watching and feeling the magic : )
The crowd was right up on them!
'cause not too big club was... & the Police hadn't too huge publicity in the wide world yet
Three wonderful boys... The Police
This is the best live version ever
THI IS AWESOME 😎💙
Three years ago I met this gem of a song And I don't stop listening, I liked going to a concert of you I'm 18 years old and I really like your music.
Kind of reminds me of when I saw them at My Father’s Place in Roslyn, Long Island (NY) in the late 70s. Literally, it was like having this legendary band play in your living room.
You do know there's a good bootleg of that show??
Stewart just mentioned this very gig in the Rick Beato interview posted last night....! 👌
@@_Ben4810 yes, I caught that. What a wonderful interview. Who knew that much of the gear they used that night was “new” as they started making money 😮. After this gig in LI I was hooked on the Police
Love a band killing it in their club days…
Great footage. The Police are a tight yet fluid band.
Still got all my Police vinyl from when I was a teenager back in the eighties. Never saw them live though. Loved all their music.
@Wid Eye hi
Wow, didn't think a video this great existed from the early days. Fans so close to the band and clearly visible. Could possibly now be my favourite live performance of MIAB? I think so.
I LOVE YOU THE POLICE
The police forever 🤙🏻
Brings back a it of memories
My god I want to just speak to someone that was at this show so bad. I have so many questions. What a quality live version holy cow.
Out of the entire Police catalog- my favorite!
Hey
Stewart Copeland: Undoubtedly, the most interesting drummer!
Look at this athmosphere. İt just beautiful…
!!!👏👏👏👏 fantastic the police... greetings from Córdoba Republic of Argentina
A piece of history 🤘
best band in modern times. musicianship, lyrics, lead singer, live performance, charisma, attitude, chemistry, originality, commercial & critical success.
As polished as all the Police videos are, this is a welcome glance into when they were really just gigging musicians still figuring it all out.
I would so Love to go back to this time in my Life
Amazing 😍 Really hope they do a reunion one day!!
they have
@@titanicf0g Yeah over a decade ago… I mean sometime in the future obviously.
@@lucyh8786 chill its not that serious. agree that this is a legendary band and leave it there.
@@lucyh8786 15 years ago. Damn time is flying by.
@@pcs56 Damn, it's true, 15 years ago!!!
Sting's Beret
Nice view of the setlist tape up behind Stewart.
The set list is right behind Stewart. Hard to believe this is the only song they filmed.
And I'll take a copy of that t-shirt Sting is wearing. Great hi-quality video.
Sting, Stuart, and Andy...So good.
3 legends 😊❤
Never seen this before! I would have been 22 . Think I saw them on this tour.
Me siento ahora de la misma manera que me sentí cuando escuché esta canción por primera vez , solo tenia 4-5 años . Tengo 15 y todavía la sigo escuchando , lo bueno nunca muere
This brightens my day 🌞
After all it is the best. The strongest rock trio.
Amazing!
A song I've heard in my years hearing it amazing memories
One of my favourite songs. Thanks for releasing this video.
Wow. I never saw this before. Thank you. Release MORE!!!!
Los mejores entre los mejores, saludos desde Cali Colombia, acá se le aprecia como de las mejores bandas que marcaron una generación, la generación X.
otro caleño que le gusta the police
Amazing performance!!!
To this day, I don't think Sting understands that Stewart Copeland's drumming made him an international superstar. NO OTHER DRUMMER played like this back in 1980. Exotic punk????
stephen morris
@@basepvp88 Stephen Morris is a creative drummer but he's not on Stewart Copeland's planet.
Thank you for sharing this from the archives! Love it! Andy is even wearing the pink Chuck Taylor's!
one of my fav song to hear n sings ... awesome 👍
meet and greet concert!
Super classic 😎
Amazing. As always. And they didn't wear the earplugs to hear themselves sing without the back music or noise back then. This is pure talent. ✨🤩✨♥️♥️♥️
😁never thought I'd see something new and that great from their best era!
Re releasing Police around the world with extended footage from police in the east. On cd as well .
Me encanta esta banda The Police, amo todas sus canciones. Marcaron la historia del rock and roll
Espetacular!!!
Thanks for the upload. What a performance
Wow, excellent video! These three, just ❤

Absolutely fantastic. Keen to see the Bluray of "Around the world"...
The video for "So Lonely" was also filmed in Hong Kong.
I'm sure this will be the extra footage they were referencing on the upcoming remastered release of "Around the World" on DVD
Tengo 23, gracias a mi padre me encanta la música de este grupo. Siempre la ponemos en las fiestas.
Amazing to see this! Like stepping back in time.

All bands and singers should play this close to the fans. Fantastic.
🍃Much thanks for it!!
Wow, lovely live performance. Havent found this one earlier.
Love Sting and the Police 🚓 had their posters in my locker !
Incredibly well filmed and preserved.
The best song ❤️
que lindo Police.... gracias por este video....siempre en mi 💙
this is awesome
This is great. Thank you
Breathtaking! We love it!
Bendita sea esa guitarra y Andy , un gran guitarrista y no tan apreciado como se merecía
I remember renting "Around The World : The Police" from our local VHS video store, and I never returned it. I can't believe there's more footage from this show. I believe they only used footage of them playing "Born In The 50's" from this show for that film. I'm beyond stoked. To The Police : Thank You so much for this. I hope more unseen footage is being worked on!
Wished I had seen them at this time when they had all this energy. I finally did see them when they got back together at Dodgers stadium.
Awesome quality.
I wish there was more footage from this show!
I want to see more of this gig! Greetings from Düsseldorf 🍺🤪
