      Must have been a popular replacement engine.

    Are the 482's points and condenser or solid-state ignition? have one that lost spark been thinking about swapping the engine for a 12 horse oposed twin brigs the 11 horse is just about warn out piston has side to side play and smokes the shop out. Cant find a rebuild kit for it so just going to swap it i know the 12 horse is a solid state but im not too sure about the 482's motor I think it is tho.

      I am pretty sure it is points and condenser. I think Briggs went away from points sometime in the 80s. I would have to look, But im almost 100 percent its points and condenser.

      If you dont care about keeping it original then I would swap it out. I think parts for the 11 hp Briggs are pretty much not avalable.

      I had an 1100, which is basically identical to a 482 except it’s a quiet line, and it had a Magnetron decal on it. But I think it was converted, as Magnetron didn’t come along until 1982, and my 1100 was a 1978.

    482's aren't easy to find and the white/yellow ones are even more uncommon. They both look to be in nice shape, though. It's interesting that Cub Cadet continued to use a disc brake on their Peerless transaxles while Deere used a drum/band brake on theirs. Pretty neat that a 482 was the first one to roll off the line at Brownsville. Did they produce all the CCC 82 series there or were the later ones built in Cleveland like the serial tags say? I know the very early CCC ones were built at Brownsville.

      The IH Cubs were all built in Louisville, KY. Once MTD took over they moved the manufacturing process to there new plant in Brownsville Tennessee. Its funny you say you don't see the yellow and white versions often. I was thinking the same thing after I got it home. I have seen maybe 6 482 for sale in last 10 years and they were all IH built. At all the shows I go to I have seen red ones all tagged IH as well. I never have seen a yellow one at a show or even for sale. I have never seen a MTD red one either. I'm sure there out there somewhere, But I wonder how many were really sold. I see the yellow ones with the 16 HP engine all the time. I'm sure the cheaper rearend and the engine probably sent a lot to the scrap yard. I'm not really sure if I want to pull the engine from it now or not. The 482s don't bring high dollar, But they are definitely more rare. You don't see to many 582 Specials either.

      @@steiger256 Oddly enough I've seen a lot more 582 Special's than 482's or the white and yellow 580's. A friend of mine has a red CCC-built 482 but it's the only one I've ever seen.

      @@steiger256 keep that yellow/white one. The low end 82 series LTs and GTs are way rarer in yellow/white than they are in red. Nice machines!

      @steiger256  4 года назад

      @@515cubcadetguy9 I am thinking of maybe keeping it, But not sure yet. I agree you so not see many yellow and white 482s. The only problem is I really dont need to start collecting the yellow ones. Maybe ill just keep a few of the rarer ones.

    • @515cubcadetguy9
      @515cubcadetguy9 4 года назад

      @@steiger256 There aren't that many that are super rare in the yellow/white. 1806s are a little hard to come by. 2072 with a factory Onan I think is the rarest cub ever made. I've never seen numbers, but I'd wager there are fewer yellow/white 482s than there are 800s, and probably fewer still out in the wild.

    Are the pre 81 582 and 682 tractors different from the ccc built ones?

    • @steiger256
      @steiger256  3 года назад +1

      Pretty much same thing. The IH tractors had cast iron rear ends in them. After CCC took over they changed them later on to aluminum rear ends. Other than that they were the same.
