- I was recently able to meet up with Oskar (@plantthatplant on Instagram) in Lund, Sweden. Oskar is a well known and respected rare tropical aroid collector, trader, and seller in the European plant scene. In this episode (Part 5), we continue plant shopping at Tradsgards Paletten, a prominent garden center in Malmo, Sweden. We discuss what is is considered rare and not rare in US and Europe. Though we are oceans apart and there are definitely some differences, I hope this series highlight that we are much more similar than we may think =)

Lol I just realized I live a 13 min WALK away from this plant shop and I've never visited it?? Insane! I'll have to visit it asap!
I hope to say a similar comment regarding a significant other one day 🤣🤣. But in seriousness, yeah go visit. Super fun relaxing way to spend the day.
I might be incorrect, but I believe Scandinavian countries have always had a market and appreciation for indoor plants. I think younger people in the US are starting an indoor plant "movement" which is fabulous! Perhaps our market will improve with diversity and availability. My generation (in the 1960s) had many common plants. Just my thoughts....
🌿✌🌿
Rosie Tulips I think your right, I’ve been growing plants 35 yrs, an it makes me so happy too see all these young ppl an young plant tubers doing videos. They are really fueling the love for plants!😀
Also, the Netherlands is a huge grower so whenever a country in Europe is down for some nice indoor plants, the stocks are already there and available! I'm from the Netherlands and I found the Swedish prices quite high compared to what we have here and also we have a bit more variety ;)
@@sherryporsch9349 Additionally, the plant hobby is personally, as well as socially, enriching. Anyone can participate. 🌿✌🌿
Hm I'm not sure Rosie. The more I travel, the more I realize I know nothing about anyone. That includes local people lol
This is great! In the Netherlands we have these nurseries all over the place. Often much bigger. You can find everything for your indoor interior (plants, pots and other decorations, sometjmes even furniture). And everything for your garden (plants, pots, seeds, garden tools, soils, pesticides, pavement and border options, sheds, BBQ's, outdoor furniture, ornaments and much more).
Another amazing Sweden plant tour 💚🌿👍
I enjoy watching this video and I feel so lucky that, I can see almost all of these plants in the wild or outdoor plants in the rural neighborhood 😍in my favorite island here in Philippines called Siargao, tetrosperma and some variety of philodendrons, photos, crotons, ferns, alocasias etc
Another fun comparison and look of plants and plant prices. Thanks for sharing.
Unbelievable! I wish we had stores like this in the US. Maybe not, I would be so broke. lol
There are some super neat rare cacti! The ghost cactus is the one everyone's really feeling right now, but my favorite are some mamillaria. I like the ones that look deceptively soft. You're absolutely not gonna find the rare ones at a regular nursery even in the US tho
Thanks for the comment. Honestly, my cacti knowledge is horrendous. I need to interview more non-aroid people.
That place looks like a conservatory. I would go there everyday if I lived there.
Love seeing you in shock over the price of plants. Lol I would bring the Standleyana home, my only wish list plant😍😍
I’ve never been in a plant shop like that before in US. I love seeing what different things they have there. So beautiful. I wish we had something like that here:( even the plants in that place are exciting & the size of the plants are great too!
Wow! How hard was it to not just sneak a couple in your bag - on accident of course 😝 hahah
love seeing you in my home-country - visiting one of my favourite stores!!
Julia H hi Julia! I’m going to be in malmo from 9-13 of feb. do you know of any other places to go to see/buy plants?? Thanks!!!
Jen J. Hi Jen! oh, how nice that you’re coming to visit!
the best plantstores in Malmö I’d say is this one (Paletten), florera, Florista (only flowers) - and most definetely Oasen!! a must after paletten :) i hope you enjoy the city!
I had a great, though extremely short, time! Cheers!
Julia H thanks, Julia!!! My husband is Swedish so we’re visiting his family right now. We met at Lund. :)
thank you so much for the recommendations! I really really appreciate it. Let’s see what I can transport back to San Francisco... 😅
Jen J. Happy to help! I hope you have a lovely time in Sweden, and good luck with the plant-shopping ;)
Please tell me what is the hanging plant @ 6:40 ? You both touched it and kept walking. I am fascinated. It favors the Alocasia Amazonica Polly. Great video by the way.
Cissus amazonica
I don't know but it's so important it's got a guard dog.
Obviously Greece is NOT so european when it comes to plants... oh wait.... among other things as well 😂😂😂
Stunning stunning nursery!! Wow 💜
Oskar is gorgeous..just saying
Oskar said that we don't have green jewel orcids but I wouldn't say that's true at all. I live on the countryside and I've seen green ones with nerves in several stores. Not as common as the one in your video, but they can absolutley be found for about 35 dollars last time I saw it.
Thanks for sharing! Seems there’s much more diversity in prices and availability within the EU than I initially thought. Will be visiting other countries when I can :)
Do you ever run across any variegated money trees? (Variegated pachira aquatica).
I don't think I do that often. Then again, it's not really something that catches my eye haha
I saw a variegated schefflera that's close
Those peperomia is so lovely
It's a good thing the store is in Sweden because I would be homeless with my plants. Ty.
The vine Oskar is holding at 15:55 looks amazing... someone knows what's it name please ?
Glad I discovered your channel your videos are really interesting and helpful, thank you !
* me looking at my two Cupreas I got for €8 * so glad to be living in Europe haha
Wait, did Oskar just break that Rhaphidophora? I think he broke it! I think he did! I'm just kidding lol!
Haha yeah, lets report him! Lol. He seems really close to the shop owners actually. Cheers!
@@LegendsOfMonstera touch if you must pay if you bust!
What plant was at 2:37 !
I'm not sure Sasha. I think it's a hoya? Honestly don't know but it's a beautiful plant!
You go all the way over to see Oscar and that's it. There was a beautiful window in the background with wide windows sills and a fancy glass pane that opens with a latch when you were talking to him, did we get to see that? no we did not! it had a horse on it that was possibly a planter, did we get to see that? N o o o. I think we deserve a follow-up video with Oscar with said window and said Courtyard down below and a couple of hired actors to play Romeo and Juliet in a follow-up video! (Shhh! They're here with the nets again now they're dressed as a dog pound but I'm on to them, gotta go!)
Lol I’m gonna get better with my travel vids!! Better travels coming 💪💪
This is my dream
We got our a foot and a half tetrasperma here in the Philippines around 30 to 40 usd haha, a tetra more Than 6ft for 70 and everyone's going Gaga lol. I got mine when it was like a foot tall for 33 usd I think
Fittonia or nerve plants.
"Wow"
Love x
You skipped the begonias?
6:45 what is that plant!!!!!
Cissus amazonica
Amy P thank you!
Oh man Jimmie, now you went did it, you said you wished orchids would bloom or something and I saw some angry villagers getting their pitchforks and torches heading your way saying get the monster! Man I'm glad I'm not you! Just put some posts in your neck, walk like your real stiff, and Roar at them and they usually run away. ( I love the small bricks I saw in one part of the tour and that little round iron table would be on my back heading to the door!)
Monstera is also the one that got me into the plant world! 🥺 thank you for letting me know this place in Sweden.👍
Btw, regarding my monstera that I’ve bought for 5 months. I notice that the growth is slow (due to low light in Swedish winter). Last week I repotted this guy, noticed that the soil is really dense with no drainage materials. The roots are quiet bounded and it is currently in a plastic pot. Question is whether I should repot it again ASAP to get rid of all those no drainage soil and put it in a terracotta pot. Please help 😭😭
Hi Lena. Thanks for tuning in. I think if your monstera has been doing well for 5 months now, you're doing the right things. You can always loosen up the roots and repot if your plant is rootbound, but I wouldn't worry about changing a lot of what you're doing if the plant is currently doing well. Cheers!
