Lots of Texans on here, today, myself included! Our temps swing so wide, it’s hard to know how to dress sometimes, but I like to wear the jeans, nice blouse, and blazer combination. I also usually wear a kitten heel or nice ballet flat to elevate the jeans. Someone once said to leave the house dressed as if you expect to run into your ex. I think that’s an excellent motivation to always dress well, even if headed to the grocery store! LOL
Georgina, How right you are: you never know what is around the corner. As Forest Gump's mama told him, "Life is like a box of chocolates; you never know what you're going to get." Why be passed over for wonderful opportunities because we are not dressed for it? Natalia
Bravo, Marie-Anne! So timely. I'm a Texas retired teacher who has seen the deterioration of dress code since I first began teaching. Your ideas elevate the style & professionalism of those who work in a casual environment. As a retiree, I'm mainly at home these days with occasional outings for appointments or my part time tutoring job, so this video is spot on. The temperature here in south central Texas is already in the high 70 and low 80 F. Please recommend an alternative to the sweater, although I'll save that idea for fall. Also, do you wear your brogues barefoot or with some sort of "sock."
Maybe a dressy silk t-shirt or silk blouse with a nice belt? Silk breathes - good for the temperature changes between the hot outdoors and air conditioned indoors. Keep a couple-few pashminas in your car trunk to have on hand if needed - useful and elegant.
@@Mary-th1gb Good point. Replace silk with fabric of choice and you’re good to go. The key is a DRESSY t-shirt or a tailored blouse so people understand that you made an effort. Sorry, Marie-Anne, I didn’t mean to make a whole long thing on the back of your video!
Dear Ellyce, As a teacher, I am sick and tired of seeing women in tank tops with their cleavage exposed to the world, yoga pants, and flip flops (used to be called shower shoes in America). Then, these very same women complain that no one respects them at work. Gee, I wonder why!? I always wear suits as a teacher, along with high heels, nylons, silk scarves, and beautiful, simple jewelry--no matter if it is 118 in the summer. The students and parents appreciate their teacher who displays an elegant, classy, and polished appearance, believe me! On a dress-down Friday, my students told me, "Miss Miles, do not lower your standards. Do not dress down." I didn't! Natalia
Even though I work from home, I do my hair and light makeup every day, as well as dressing smart business casual. I feel ready for any Zoom meetings or quick run into the office. It also gets my mindset in a much more productive state. Thank you for all of the hard work and thought you put into your content!
I love the cheat sheet. This video has great ideas for travel as well, you never know whom you may meet or what opportunity is around the corner. I am starting a real estate career on the side until I transition full-time. So even if I run to the store, I can add a watch or scarf with my shirt and jeans just in case I hand out a business card.
I think the same could be said of a little make-up, too. Someone once asked me why I never leave the house without make-up on. I said, because I've noticed people treat you better when you look good. Plus, I feel more confident. Great great video, Marie-Anne!
Thanks for this, Marie-Anne. The problem is that I now live somewhere where no friends turn up unexpectedly(they are perhaps even busier than me, no boss/client thing happens and as a result I let myself slide. but I do live somewhere where women like to make an effort and that has inspired me as well. Many good tips here. I will keep them in mind.:)
Ahhh! What a wonderful video. Not only it helps in dressing up but it motivates me to build a mindset that everyday is an opportunity! I plan my outfits at night, it will surely brighten my mood and motivation 😻😻 it's so amazing how outfits can impact us in many ways. Like myself, simple things like ironing even my home tshirt makes me feel so much better and in a good mood. It sounds silly, but it makes me happy. The tiny little things, yeah 🤣
I loved this. I am still guilty of running out in a sweat suit or yoga pants sometimes and spend the time in the grocers hoping to not run into anyone I know. The changes you made still look comfortable.
Thank you for tackling everyday life. I wish I had more opportunities for wearing the beautiful outfits you generally present. I’ve been waiting for you to show how to dress for the kind of life I lead. I look forward to every new video you post!
Love this! So helpful how you replaced each casual piece one at a time with an upgraded piece, walking us through your outfit. Where did you buy that beautiful green sweater? And the silk top? Both together look so chic yet comfortable.
Thank you again Marie-Anne! This was great doable and simple advice. I am dreaming of similar shoes as you have on the video. I would like them to be patent leather or something like that because I like the shine, don't know if it's a bit too much though 😊. Can't afford them yet, but they are on my wish list... Love the style for casual wear, however, here in Sacramento it is already so warm this outfit only works for the mornings! Even in San Francisco, it was very warm this weekend. But, I really enjoy the looks, styles, and personality so please keep your videos coming! Jacque
Geez, the poor woman can't win with some people. If she sticks to showing French style, you complain that she shows outfits that don't suit your weather. If she enlarges her focus to include more environments, other people complain that she's no longer showing French style.
San Fransico,, that is America!! Ok, too hot do dress nice, just a question... what exactly do you wear to feel comfortable in the heat?? Male bankers dress in suits ... always, why would dress codes be "comfy style" for women?
Jacque, Even in the very high temperatures six months out of the year here in Arizona (hello 118 in the summer and over 100 at night), I still wear blazers each and every day! They keep the sun off my arms and offer another layer of protection from dangerous UVA/UVB rays. Julia, I remember the amazing Mr. John and Merrivale boutiques in Sydney and Melbourne back in 1984! They had the most exquisite, up-to-the-second fashions, all well-made. My boyfriend splurged and bought me so many beautiful outfits there, including zebra-striped pumps from France (so classic) that I still own. The pieces at the boutique were pricey but so well-made. All my pieces from the Mr. John boutiques made quite an impression back in California! I also remember that back then, the women in the cities were so well-dressed, and I was in awe of their style. What a timely video as we are now better able to step out into the social world again! Two plus years of quarantine has left so many of us in "comfy" clothes without accessories.
Such good advice, as we’ve come to enjoy from your videos. I fell a bit into that trap: professional dressing as a teacher, casual (dare I say sloppy?) dressing after hours. I learned to do better some years ago, after the kids left home. I realized that It takes no more effort to put on a sweater or blouse than a T-shirt, and simple hoop or stud earrings will take you anywhere with style. May I respectfully add another suggestion? A touch of eyeliner, a sweep of mascara, and a light application of lipgloss - emphasis on a “light” touch; we’re not talking full-on makeup - will automatically elevate even the most casual outfit.
Maria Anne , you gave a good example how to upgrade a overly casual outfits to a more polished, smart looking casual uniform. Dress comfortably doesn't mean sloppy. Today I went to rodeo in Houston. I saw a lot of people wearing GYM wear. But there are also a lot of women wearing cute spring dresses /skirts with flats/flat cowboy boots. The later are still very comfortable, but look a lot nicer and made the event more festive as people put efforts into how they look. Dress well not only brings opportunities to the person who is doing that, it also brings positive energy to her surroundings.
😳Kinda surprised by that. We're the center of casual & athleisure in LA, but we tend to think in terms of occasion dressing. We rarely have local 🐎rodeos, but we do have plenty of solid 🐂Country/Western folks who love to get their related duds out. Prior to the 😷pandemic we regularly attended 🎶concerts🎵. 😁Typically here, patrons proudly dress to impress in "date night attire" that typically matches the genre or 🎤artist. How formal could vary based on venue, but skew more elegant for 🎻philharmonic, sophisticated for 🎷jazz, edgy for 🎸rock-'n'-roll, bohemian or barn dance style for 🪕country🤠. It does boost morale & heighten thrill of event to see that ppl made an effort. 💚 Bridget from Cali☘️ (using my pal's YT acct)

My experience. I worked for a professional woman. My lab coat was clean, white & ironed EVERYDAY as was my modest attire, hair, jewelry and nails. I had clean speech & My shoes were comfortable and clean. I'm embarrassed to admit that last year, before I found you, I might of been guilty of wearing pale blue shapeless jeans (I just found them when decluttering and they're in the donation box!). Baggy Tee-shirts also are gone from my closet, I only bought them to cover up my lumps and bumps, so I'm on a healthy, weight loss plan and have already lost over 5 lbs. Yes, I was caught unprepared. I was out walking my dog wearing some old jeans or tights, an old t-shirt and an old flannel shirt as a jacket - Then I saw a man who I really liked a lot and whom I had been on one date with and he was with his mother who was in town visiting. I looked so sloppy, that I rushed and hid behind a tree but what I really wanted to do was go up and say good morning to him and meet his mother. Argh! I vowed from that day onward never to go out in public looking shabby. It's just not worth it.
@@MarieAnneLecoeur For myself, I can't stand the feel of my bare feet in anything but sandals. Always need socks. Any particular type you would suggest for an outfit such as this?
All my life I have been dressed for success but I cannot call myself a successful woman. In my profession- maybe I am, but my private life.... hmm( Perhaps your advice is intended for ambitious women from developed countries of the world 🙂
Casual clothes to me mean ones I can throw in the wash. Silk and cashmere don't seem to be in that category. And Marie-Anne, are you seriously wearing those shoes without socks? That can't be comfortable.
@@MarieAnneLecoeur My father owned shoe repair shops when I was growing up so I know shoes. No one should wear shoes without some sort of sock - except for sandals. Your feet have a huge number of sweat glands spewing sweat into your shoes and spreading bacteria. Going without socks puts you at risk for developing a fungal infection called onychomycosis among other infections. Shoes are not designed to be worn without some sort of foot protection. I know it's the current "style" to wear shoes without socks, but it's very filthy. Your brogues could easily be worn with a little half or no-show sock. Same for most heels. As to those sandals? I make sure I have sandals which can be washed or disinfected often. Think of this way - don't you wash your socks after each wearing? Sure. But it's pretty hard to throw your shoes in the washing machine. Keep up the great videos!
In the movie 🎬Working Girl, Melanie Griffith's character realized she desperately needed to repackage herself in order for her to escape her destiny in the secretarial pool & be taken more seriously in the corporate finance world. 😉Don't recommend that anyone copy her exact moves, but it's savvy to emulate an executive (or individual) you admire until you figure out your own style. It worked similarly in the 🎬"The Devil Wears Prada." The more energy & ingenuity that Anne Hathaway's character dedicated toward improving her own style of dress & overall impression〰️the more she advanced in the estimation of her highly driven editor and equally competitive co-workers. Both 🎞️films are real life lessons 📚 in dressing for the position on the corporate ladder (or life) you want vs the one you're actually in. 🤔 Marie-Anne, you brought up some excellent reasons to elevate our everyday fashion game. If we don't, we very well might be overlooked or miss opportunities. Casual or comfortable doesn't have to mean dowdy or dull🤣. Your two examples beautifully exemplifies your point. Think it's smart to create some sort of standard daily uniform. 😃Mine would definitely include a pencil or straight skirt (over jeans👖). Loafers or oxfords (w/naked socks to prevent blisters). A coordinating sleeveless shell in a natural, breathable fiber. 😎 Frequently in our typically hot, dry climate🌡️〰️I can only wear a blazer indoors w/blasting A/C or outdoors in the evening at most. As a result, my topper layer might be a light gilet or an unbuttoned dress shirt. 👜 Agree that structured handbag can be quite a statement piece, but I am more inclined to do a crossbody bag. Unless attending a special event, I generally prefer to be hands-free. Plus, on 🚉 public transportation🚍, you still need a tote to carry your jacket, umbrella, & items you may pick up along the way. 💚 Bridget from Cali☘️ (using my pal's YT acct)

I love how the subtitles always have you saying 'Friendship ladies' instead of French chic ladies. Another lovely video, Marie Anne❤️.
Your best video so far, Marie-Anne!
Always dress for unknown opportuneties, one thing is always linked to another, so make it good 🙂
Georgina,
How right you are: you never know what is around the corner.
@@OpenSesame33 Hi, I live in the tropics although silk is good I find linen or a silk/cotton mixes are better in the heat and humidity
I would swap the sweater for a button down shirt; white or blue and white stripes. I usually wear those “invisible” socks with my flats or loafers.
Dear Ellyce,
As a teacher, I am sick and tired of seeing women in tank tops with their cleavage exposed to the world, yoga pants, and flip flops (used to be called shower shoes in America).

Even though I work from home, I do my hair and light makeup every day, as well as dressing smart business casual. I feel ready for any Zoom meetings or quick run into the office. It also gets my mindset in a much more productive state. Thank you for all of the hard work and thought you put into your content!
Marie-Anne, such a great video! It makes so much sense to put that little bit of effort into elevating a simple outfit. Thank you😍
Just a few little changes look so much smarter! Right on!
This is such an important topic and so well depicted in the video. Thank uoi Msrie - Anne for another excellent video 👍
Thank you. So true and we feel so much better when we look smart.
Great video. Thank you. 💕

Jacque,
Even in the very high temperatures six months out of the year here in Arizona (hello 118 in the summer and over 100 at night), I still wear blazers each and every day! They keep the sun off my arms and offer another layer of protection from dangerous UVA/UVB rays. Nothing better than a white linen blazer in the summer--I look stylish and protect my delicate fair skin.

Georgina,
I have lived in the Bay Area, and summers are very foggy and chilly in San Francisco; it is rare for it to be hot in the summer there. I wore very classic clothes from Banana Republic during that time with silk scarves and safari type dresses in khaki with snakeskin type heels and linen ivory blazers--all very stylish. I carried a beautiful ivory, wool cape to wrap around myself--perfect for San Francisco summers!

Julia,
I remember the amazing Mr.

Thank you! Great video, on elevating our style. Not only will we be ready for opportunity, but we will attract it!

We rarely have local 🐎rodeos, but we do have plenty of solid
🐂Country/Western folks who love to get their related duds out.
Prior to the 😷pandemic we regularly attended 🎶concerts🎵. 😁Typically here, patrons proudly dress to impress in "date night attire" that typically matches the genre or 🎤artist. How formal could vary based on venue, but skew more elegant for 🎻philharmonic, sophisticated for 🎷jazz, edgy for
🎸rock-'n'-roll, bohemian or barn dance style for 🪕country🤠. It does boost morale & heighten thrill of event to see that ppl made an effort.

My experience. I worked for a professional woman. My lab coat was clean, white & ironed EVERYDAY as was my modest attire, hair, jewelry and nails. I had clean speech & My shoes were comfortable and clean. I was the one who was preferred to assist with patients of different ages- If it was my day off the parents returned when I was at the job (mostly children) and I was busy in that office all the time. Eventually I was laid off HOWEVER, another Dr who worked at the same office asked me to come work for her. She was quietly observing me. I ended up with a job I enjoyed and prayed for ; part-time work with full time pay.
Alright Marie-Anne you won! I was just about to go out and do some errands in leggings and a T-shirt. I’m changing right now! I doubt any opportunities will come up but if they do, I’ll be ready! If nothing comes up, at least I’ll look my best instead of my worse. 😎 Thank you for another wise video!

Good for you! That is my philosophy, too: "Why look my worst when I can look my best?" It feels nice to receive compliments on your outfits; I love it! Wise decision,, always opt for feeling good when you leave the house 🙂
You're right, dear Marie-Anne. But I allways think about my outfit each day, even the night before: what am I wearing next day, where do I go, what might happen unexpectedly. No, honestly I never missed an opportunity because of clothes. That wouldn't be me.

Bravo Marie-Anne - another great video with so much valuable advice, I completely agree with what you say. I do still own a denim jacket but it's a tailored one (Calvin Klein from many years ago) and nips in at the waist and I only wear it with all black under it, so it looks casual smart. I always believe that you never know who you'll bump into at the grocery store ;). Thank you xx. p.s. You look fabulous in green!
Martine,
Congratulations on losing 5 pounds; that is quite an accomplishment. Keep at it! Yes, all black under your blazer is so slenderizing and tres elegant; that is my usual look. Could a few of these items be kept in the car for trips to the grocery store, etc.?
Yes, I was caught unprepared. I was out walking my dog wearing some old jeans or tights, an old t-shirt and an old flannel shirt as a jacket - Then I saw a man who I really liked a lot and whom I had been on one date with and he was with his mother who was in town visiting. I looked so sloppy, that I rushed and hid behind a tree but what I really wanted to do was go up and say good morning to him and meet his mother. Argh! All my life I have been dressed for success but I cannot call myself a successful woman. In my profession- maybe I am, but my private life.... hmm(
Perhaps your advice is intended for ambitious women from developed countries of the world 🙂
Casual clothes to me mean ones I can throw in the wash.
Marie- Anne, i like you so much better on your mower. 😂....as yourself.
