John Travolta had an autistic son, Jett, who passed away at the age of 16. It's possible that he pulled some of the mannerisms from his experience with his son. It's not pretty, but possibly accurate. I had an employee with a grown up autistic son-- he would come in to work, periodically, with black eyes and scratches. His son also didn't read emotional cues very well and would obsess, to the point of getting violent, over the most mundane things.
The movie looks like shite, but Travolta's likely doing what he knows to be true.

Glad you guys said some good things, because I enjoyed most of it. The ending is silly, but the movie is pretty fun and Travolta is awesome.

What happened to Travolta career? Going the same way as Nic Cage.

At least Nicolas Cage still manages to be entertaining. Most of Travolta's performances nowadays is just sad to watch.

Both of their careers plummeted hard. Sucks because both used to be A listers with more talent leading towards Cage but Travolta used to be able to hold his own. Still love Saturday Night Fever & Urban Cowboy 👌

Travolta's nose dive began with Broken Arrow-- he hammed it up hard. He kept it together on other projects, but solidified his plunge with Battlefield Earth. The rays of hope, since then, have been very few.

Outside of The Fan, One Hour Photo, and Misery there's also Big Fan, The King of Comedy, Ingrid Goes West, and even Chapter 27. There's probably more but that's all I got off the dome for the 'obsessive fan' sub-genre.

    I just wanna see
John Travolta, Bruce Willis and Nicolas Cage make the ultimate bargain bin
    no budget
    half assed
    poorly produced
    theater rejected
    Netflix turned down
so embarrassing they don’t even want it on their IMDB filmography movie ever made.

Movies starring people with disabilities are always hard to watch. Especially because some of these situations are really insensitive.

They could have done something interesting with the actor who literally portrayed the original Stan being the victim of an obsessed fan.
