Something that fascinates me in Southeast Asia are the myths/legends/folklore in each country. Like how Philippines has Biringan city, I think legends are such an interesting topic to talk about with friends from other countries ^^
As a Malaysian, I am super understand to many things in this video. Hahaha. Hose water in toilet, plastic bag for drinks, eat by using hand. Southeast Asia, we unite~~~
Hi! We also have a similar custom here in the Philippines called "pagpag," in which we don't go straight home after visiting a wake/funeral, so that spirits don't come home with us! The word "pagpag" literally translates to the act of shaking/brushing something off (like dust from a rag), but in this context, we are "shaking off" spirits that may have followed us. In my experience, most people "pagpag" at convenience stores.
Omg the segments with all the food is making me crave South East Asian food soooooo much!! This lockdown is making me go crazy with cravings T_T Anyone else suffering like me? P.S. Thanks for the interesting video Dave! :-)
Actually as Indonesian Javanese it's a taboo too to clean your house at night, exactly the same as Philippines. It might be because in the old time there's no electricity, we just use candle and other lights from fire and there are some spaces we can't see clearly so we won't notice if there's something valued on the floor and we just sweep it off and lose it. That's what my mom said hahaha sorry for bad English.
7:50 🤣🤣 dave having mental breakdown on southeast asian unite. Many koreans found that the water hose is more convenient now. Lots of youtubers talking bout this Dave. Eodiyeyo? 🤭🤭
Weirdly, I'm hoping that there will be cultural comparison between Philippines and Dave's spanish/latin ... PS. Yes I know there will be more similarity .. I just think it be sarisfying 😂
They could also talk about the Chavacano dialect and how it sounds almost like spanish. A lot of filipinos still think that the song 'Porque' by Maldita is Spanish, but it's actually chavacano.
7:24 hahah we have that in Finland too. But we also have toilet paper lol 😅 I was so uncomfortable in Korea as I was there 5 months as exchange student and just came back to Finland and first thing I realized I missed so much was the little "hand shower/bidet" XDD
I can understand why some people think it's strange to use water hose like in SEA. Unlike bidet, generally it's better if you take off your pants and shoes then hang it somewhere. And you don't use it "beside" the toilet, you put it under your bottom *while* you sit *on* the toilet. With proper technique, your bathroom should still dry. You don't have to take off your shoes and pants too. Bidet is convenient, obviously. But I prefer to have more control over the water direction and pressure level.
Dimas Ahmad Eka Putra this. People who seem grossed out by it dont know the mechanism and dont bother to do research. You dont stand or bend over 90 degrees, you do it in your seat so the dirty stuff wont escape the toilet bowl itself. The water pressure can be controlled so you won’t “spray sh*t everywhere” like these westerners think, and you do it AFTER you finish your business so there aren’t chunks of sh*t still sticking to your ass in the first place. People who think sh*t will spray to the walls when using a bidet/hose have clearly never used one and just have too-wild imaginations and deeply ingrained prejudices about how our cultural practices are inferior.
I'm not used to bidet and I prefer having a water hose because when I get up from the toilet seat and move to the bidet, I'm afraid that during the transit something might drip. I prefer having my behind already clean before I get up from the toilet seat.
Man....Dave and his friends made me want to TRAVEL ALL those places!!!! To do so, first... coronavirus should be over😈 Let's make this 🍋lemon-like situation a squeezed 🍹lemonade! Be safe, Dave!

1:57 in Indonesia there is something similar. After attending funerals or visiting the graveyard, we (or at least in Kalimantan/Borneo) have to take a shower. I never asked the reason why but probably to cleanse the body from the ghosts too.
wiping with tissue still leaves a residue and it also dries out the area and may cause tears at that region, especially if you wipe it continuously just saying
Amelia, we have something similar in Indonesia to what Hien said about the first buyer. Many vendors believe that the first buyer would set the tone for the rest of the day, and that's why they always want that first purchase of the day to be successful. That's why it's advised to go to the market early in the morning because the vendors will be more likely to give you discounts. Kalo di kita ngomongnya penglaris kan terus duitnya dikepretin di dagangannya gitu.
interestingly here in Finland in northern Europe we use the same kind of spray thing in the bathroom! but we also use toilet paper, what you use is kind of according to your preferences :D

i mean like maybe because we prt of asian and indonesia have many culture it got kix with many other tradition ❤️ respect for other cultures too 💪🏻

@@ihsohnowk3630 well maybe that's because theres a lot of similarities between filipinos and indonesians.
Our countries are relatives anyway, some ancient filipino tribes are Originally from indonesia, they were sea farers and somehow ended up here in the archipelago we call philippines, so yah, wasnt surprised by the similarity
1:58 That Thai culture of washing face with coconut juice after attending a funeral is kinda similar in some regions in Indonesia, but in Indonesia we usually just wash our face with water after attending a funeral to avoid the spirits from the funeral following us, idk if it's different in other regions
I’m Thai and I do the same as what you mentioned. Just wash our face with water. Normally, coconut juice is used for washing the dead person’s face.

Have been laughing on your reaction dave when you realize southeast asians wash their bottoms with water haha.
There's also a culture in the philippines where you point things with your lips, our neighbor countries find this awkward too haha.
Really? Actually some local ethnic groups here in Indonesia do that too. 😅
Kind of regional quirks lol

In Myanmar🇲🇲, we also don't sweep at night. In morning we start sweeping from front to back of the house and in evening, opposite. SEA UNITE AND REPRESENT!! I live these similarities. It's like inside jokes that only we understand, and it's a relief to know that we're not so different. Our superstitions might seem ridiculous but it makes our cultures fun and beautiful. This was amazing 💖💖 Love from Manila!
When my Peruvian friend came to Indonesia and saw that water gun, he thout it was for watering thr plants but he saw no plants in the bathroom and so he had a big question mark. Then he immediately asked and I explained meticulously what it was for.
I hope you'll make a video on the diversity of Indonesia with Amelia. Indonesia is crazy diverse. Crazy diverse.
Last time i was this early dave was still a coconut.

Something that fascinates me in Southeast Asia are the myths/legends/folklore in each country. Like how Philippines has Biringan city, I think legends are such an interesting topic to talk about with friends from other countries ^^

4:43 I’m in the Philippines and I did see that at like, 10-11pm at Dec 31. So now i know why! I thought it was to celebrate
Good collaboration.

7:24 hahah we have that in Finland too. But we also have toilet paper lol 😅 I was so uncomfortable in Korea as I was there 5 months as exchange student and just came back to Finland and first thing I realized I missed so much was the little "hand shower/bidet" XDD
다른 문화에 대해 알아갈 수 있어서 좋네요:D
Im from Honduras living in Seoul and its so interesting to see they also put drinks in a plastic bag to drink in Southeast Asian! So cool!
The bathroom thing is still getting me like **o**

Dave: confused by Southeast Asians use water instead of toilet paper
The Southeast Asian gang: same energy but confused by not having the water gun in toilets
In Brazil also! But I think you may not find in every house.
태국이랑 한국이랑 비슷하네요 장례식장 갔다고 바로 집에 들어가면 부정탄다고 다른 데 들렸다가 들어가라고들 하는데 비슷한 터부인거같아요.

7:44 haha. Korean.
Prae might be confused. In Thailand, we use coconut water to wash the face of the deceased.
In the Philippines, when you came back from a funeral ceremony, you should put a smoke and jump through this so that ghost will not follow you. This is how Bisaya (Southern Filipinos) usually do that.

When they were talking about funerals, I was kinda expecting Noel to mention pagpag. Is this just a Tagalog thing, I wonder?
i was thinking he will mention that too.. but maybe he can't really follow the conversation because the girls were conversing in Korean
Yeah when the Thai belief of washing your face was being talked about i wanted Noel to share the PAGPAG belief since it's similar.
I rewatched the girls' reactions to the makeshift wet wipes and the mini-tub bidet a hundred times in a row. Always entertaining! 데이브야 고마워!
when i go to 'toilet paper only' country, i always bring empty mineral water bottle with me so i could fill it before i'm going to the toilet. i just CAN'T even do #1 without water. esp if i have to perform shalat after, i feel like it won't be acceptable.
