San Diego County Swap Meet in danger of shutting down in 1978

Every weekend thousands flock to San Diego County swap meets. In 1978 the popular Spring Valley Swap Meet was seven years old and in danger of having to shut down. County Board of Supervisor Jim Bates felt it had violated too many regulations to stay in operation. He told Jesse Macias that it was causing traffic congestion, undercutting merchants in the area because new merchandise was being sold, and it was in an inappropriate location. Petitions were being signed to keep it in operation. A swap meet official pointed out that they added traffic officers and any business had the right to sell there. It all worked out and the swap meet is the largest in the county. Fun to see the goods for sale-like platform sandals and round glass lamps-so 70s.
