Reminds me of high school. On Monday nights. Realism, hard in your face cops & criminals. Jazz music. .Well done show. Gritty realism On locations in NY. The USS United States is now rusting away in a Philadelphia pier
The "DARK SHADOWS" actor mentioned is John Karlen, who played the "Willie Loomis" character who unleashed "Barnabas Collins" in April 1967 some months before "NYPD" had aired. he also guest starred on the "Murder For Infinity" episode of "NYPD" and a decade and a half later had been cast in CBS's "CAGNEY & LACEY" TV series in the mid 1980s. John Karlen even guest starred on a 1963 episode of ABC's "STONEY BURKE" series in the episode "Joby".
I grew up down Pattison avenue,Penrose ave.South Philly.A lot of jobs were lost when they shut down the Naval Yard.South Philly just ain't the same.Classic TV btw-
This series was viewed on television fine without the stabilization feature ... So why is it necessary on the internet ?!?? .. just my humble opinion... It is NOT necessary at all ... Why is it there at all ?? to make people nauseous ???I. I hate this feature .. people think it helps with watching ... WHY ??? ... because it doesn't ...I can do without it ..☺️🙂.
I know what you may be thinking: why didn't they check to see if he was a swallower? Drug swallowing did not exist in the 1960s; the earliest known case was 1973.
This was and is my favorite cop drama. With the exception of Hill Street Blues, I could never get into any of the other shows.
It's incredibly difficult to get good quality reproductions of this show so THANKS for this episode.
Great show. Used to watch it years ago. Frank Converse, Robert Hooks and Jack Warden were all excellent.
GREAT SHOW!! Should be back on the network

He is on a good episode of Eastside Westside
Best cop show 4 me i dig the Cars too.wish it was on D.V.D.
Wow never heard of this show.
And I never forgot it.
One of the grittiest, most realistic cop shows on TV.
Due for a remake if you ask me.
And the opening is unforgettable.
14:55 - The blonde coming down the stairs in the white pant suit is Leslie Charleson, a.k.a. Monica Quartermaine from General Hospital
Realistic and I like the eerie background music.
Great show but I remember those Christmas commercials like it was yesterday the one with Santa Claus in a little Kid thanks again
“IM GETTING DIZZY WATCHING THIS EPISODE”.
Me too I thought I was going nuts
I quite like the first Willie Loomis--never understood why he was replaced on Dark Shadows
wish these were all on one page...
Filmed on the S.S. UNITED STATES, before its decades long "retirement" (currently resting at the Philadelphia Navy Yard)
Filmed on location at the police station on 21st street so was SERPICO

Not at the Navy Yard, but on Interstate 95 Columbus Blvd.in a slip by PENN'S LANDING. The Navy Yard is further down.

I was going to say something about it, but you hit the nail squarely on its head.
Go find quality episodes of this show w/o it- I DARE YOU
That was James Hall the first and best willie loomis i think.
By 1967 the end was near for the Trans Atlantic ocean liners.
This was around the same time as the French Connection case.
Robert Hooks was great in this police drama series!!
I always preferred the second Willie Loomis...John Karlen. He is on at least one episode of NYPD
