I was at that game and Mark Van Egan ran all over us that day. The Raiders were hot stuff back in the 1970s whereas it was a very dismal decade for the Packers. But the Packers have now beaten the Raiders 8 straight times by an average of 21 points.

Great to step back in time. I’d rather watch this than the crap game that’s on the field nowadays. Oakland forever!

Brett Favre was 9-years-old when this game was played and Aaron Rodgers was not yet born or even thought of!

The Raiders won the first 5 regular season meetings between these teams after GB beat Oakland in SB II. GB has won the last 7 meetings; they next play on October 20, 2019 at Lambeau.

1978 was the year that the Raiders receivers kept tipping passes to the other team. If everyone wore gloves, like today, maybe things could have turned out differently. Great ground game though!

It was mostly Morris Bradshaw who kept dropping passes and deflecting the balls into the arms of defenders. 78 was a really weird 9-7 season for the Raiders. Unlike previous seasons where the Raiders would overcome their own errors and find ways to win, 1978 was a season where the Raiders just couldn’t overcome the refs along with their own self inflicted wounds. Stabler’s ability to throw the deep was slowly starting to decline. On Defense, the secondary was in a rebuild mode. Skip Thomas was injured for most of the season. George Atkinson & Willie Brown were both passed their prime and spent most of the season in back up roles. The 78 Raiders were an aging team. However, thanks to the 77 draft, the Raiders were able to rebuild very quickly. The 77 Draft for the Raiders brought in players such as Mickey Marvin, Mike Davis, Lester Hayes, Reggie Kinlaw,, Jeff Barnes, and Rod Martin. That’s 6 players that each have 2 Super Bowl Rings.

@@randyhanson4973 That he did. But I can also remember Cliff Branch and Even Fred Belitnekoff serving up a few well-thrown balls into the clutches of the opponents. The receiving corps was so uncommonly butterfingered that year that I can remember Dave Casper exasperatedly telling a reporter that he was "tired of having to make excuses for Ken Stabler because his receivers couldn't hold on to the ball." In Southern California, we got to see every Raiders game televised unless they were playing The Rams or The Chargers on the road. It was mortifying to see Kenny Stabler end up being charged with 30 interceptions when over half (I think I counted about 20) of them should have been either completions or Raider touchdowns.

Wow, 3 interceptions on 3 consecutive plays - wonder how often that's happened. I bet it hasn't happened since the 70s or 80s.

What a pathetic football game, if the raiders were playing the way they were supposed to be playing it would have 50-0 m. Stabler played extremely bad. This game is a eye sore , the packers were pathetic.
