    Thank you for posting this!!! I'm a Packer fan and I was at this game. A group of us drove up from Milwaukee and we got tickets outside the Met from scalpers. I was sitting in the first row of the upper level of the left field stands, at about the 40-yard line, right in the sun. After the game we celebrated at the Thunderbird Motel, which was right across the parking lot to the north of the stadium.

    As a Vikings fan, I remember this game. Vikes were up 14-0 when I had to leave to a job interview (I was in HS at the time), came back home with a new dish washing job and the score was 14-14. IIRC, Harlan Huckleby was playing only because Eddie Lee Ivery was injured, and he scored 3TDs. This was a painful loss for Vikings fans, but thanks for uploading this!

    John Jefferson should have stayed with the Chargers where he had 36 TDs and 3,431 receiving yards in 3 years. Instead he got money gready and ended up getting traded to Green Bay. He was never the same after the trade, his next five seasons he never had another 1,000 yard season and only 11 TD catches. In fact, in three of those five seasons he didn't have a single TD catch. In 1981 the Chargers ended up just one game away from the Super Bowl. Sad ending for money.

    • @whataboutrob442
      @whataboutrob442 3 года назад

      So you think he should have played for little money when he had the skills to get paid a lot more? No way, take the money. Chargers barely won the division and their playoff game in 1981. By 1983 they weren't very good.

    • @stewiedog01
      @stewiedog01 3 года назад +1

      @@whataboutrob442 Little money? The NFL wasn't making the BIG dollars like they do now. The average NFL salary in 1980 was $78K and the NFL's entire payroll was about $81 Million (today the NFL is worth $15 Billion.) By 1980 JJ was making $100K ($269K in today's money) plus incentives which was a lot more money than most receivers were being paid at that time. By comparison, in 1980 The Steelers' Lynn Swann made $130K ($412k in today's money) but he had four SuperBowl rings and was a Superbowl MVP to show for his worth. As far as JJ's "skills to get paid a lot more", you can equally argue both ways about that. He was either a result of the system (Don Coryell's legendary air offense led by HOF QB Dan Fouts) where he had 36 TD catches and 3,431 yards in 45 games with the Chargers, or he just wasn't as good and consistent as other top receivers. After he went to Green Bay (then Cleveland) he had only 11 TD catches and 2,283 yards in 57 games. I think he should have just stayed with the Chargers. In the 1981 pre-season the Chargers were the favorites to win the SuperBowl. They weren't picked to "barely" win their division. They were the team to beat. And the reason they struggled during the season (starting 4-1, then going 2-4, then finishing 4-1) wasn't because of JJ not being on the team (He was replaced by Wes Chandler who was just as great) but because the Chargers never found a replacement for losing their best defensive lineman Fred Dean (who was also traded.) The offense still scored almost 30 points a game but the defense gave up 24 points a game and never had the same defensive pressure once Dean left. Yet, they still made it to the NFC title game. Not bad. The Packers didn't even make the playoff that year.

    • @stewiedog01
      @stewiedog01 3 года назад

      @Mr1charlton Exactly. And when he left, the Chargers were never the same. In that '81 season 3 of the Chargers 6 losses were by a combined total of 6 points and the other 3 blow out losses was because they had no pass rusher. They should have lost only two games at worst. I believe that if Fred Dean stayed in SD the Chargers would have won the SuperBowl that year. No doubt. He was difference, not JJ. And even if San Francisco still went on to the SB (without the trade) against the Chargers they had nobody that could've stopped Fred. Trading him was the biggest mistake that Chargers owner Gene Klein ever made. It basically ruined their franchise for years. Some players are worth keeping no matter the price because the outcome is well worth it. But Klein never understood that as a owner. He was too cheap.

    Only in Green Bay could Bart Starr have been a coach for nine seasons. During this time, the Packers only had two winning seasons (one was during the strike year of 1982), only made the playoffs once (again in 1982 when 16 teams made the playoffs) and only won one playoff game (again in 1982). If this had been any other team, Starr would probably not have made it past the third season but because he was very popular in Green Bay, he managed to last as long as he did. He is a perfect example of what can happen when coaches are hired more out of sentiment than ability.

    nice, thanks as always Richard! been meaning to ask, do you know of any sites where people sell games? the only one i know is myfootballdvds, now that sell.com is gone

      www.aaaclassicsports.com/ Please use this seller at your own risk. He sent me one dvd to a game that was un-readable. Sent me a game to replace another one he claimed to have on his list. Luckily for me, he did send me the game I asked for.

      You must not be talking to any Vikings fans because older fans will talk about the 70s all the time.
      We Vikings fans love to talk about
      Super Bowl seasons or NFC Championship Game seasons.
      We just don’t have much to say about how those seasons ended

    Dickey really misses some throws including throwing into coverage,... can really appreciate Rodgers now.

    5 Interceptions for Tommy Kramer. I love it. Even 100 years later. Rodgers had 5 interceptions the entire season in 2020. Hahahah. The Vikings have always sucked.

    Guys named Lynn do not make good quarterbacks.

    • @Musicsports
      @Musicsports 3 года назад +2

      Lynn Dickey was a great deep ball thrower. He had some great years, but the Packers never had a Defense or OLine. Dickey was severely injured in a car accident and came back to be a damn good pocket QB.

      Always liked Lynn as a kid. But watching these games now, he had his problems. Give him credit, he was beat up with no protection

      Certain teams such as Dallas and Atlanta pioneered players showboating in the 70s and early
      80s so it’s not like nobody was doing those things. They just didn’t really happen on a Bud Grant or Bart Starr coached team
