@chrishayrider68 Well, it's different - & unlike recent gypsy programs on tv, this was a true english romany, as my grandparents were. They weren’t travellers at that time but Mum would tell of old mrs cooper who’d sell the pegs they’d made around the village ( sway ) in the 1960s . Dad reckoned their family had lived in Benders up until the late 1940s / early 1950s at Hincheslea on the forest until the council or forestry commission forced them off & settled in the new council estate in the village. I had mates in the 1980s whose mums were sisters that had also spent their earlier lives in forestry commission woods sw of beaulieu & they too got housed in the nearby village once places were built to rent. i once sat in his wagon and ate sausages, e real nice man, we had a deal, i gave him some nice leather boots, his size, i got fed, he loved his horse.
