@@WooBino. Me and my wife saw him live in the 80's in Virginia. Billy Idol was a legit punk animal, watch his interviews. My wife fought her way to front of the stage, I fought my way to the front of Steve Stevens amplifier stack. It was a great time. She touched Billy Idol's foot, I got my ears blasted.

@@AirplayBeatsBilly Idol was a “bad boy,” he wasn’t fronting. As others have noted, he came from the mid-to-late ‘70s British punk scene. Also, the guitarist, Steve Stevens, is phenomenal. Check out Michael Jackson’s “Dirty Diana” video, Stevens plays guitar on MJ’s #1 hit.

Funny story… in the late 90’s Billy’s son was in the same Little League as my girlfriend’s son and Billy played a couple of acoustic songs at the Leagues opening ceremony. Not only that, the team’s coach was Tim Hauser, the great singer and leader from The Manhattan Transfer… life in Southern California.

Billy is the real thing. He came from the 70s punk days in the UK, hanging with the Sex Pistols and all those people. He was in a band called Generation X first, which had some good stuff, then he went solo with this guitarist, an American named Steve Stevens. He's not fake, this is just very 80s stylized. Watch 'Rebel Yell', 'Mony 'Mony', 'White Wedding' etc. He's a great song writer and has a deep catalogue with different styles. He's liked by all the huge rockers and kind of a genre unto himself. He and Steve still touring to big audiences and still crushing it.

Two of Billy's best tracks include "Cradle of Love" and his cover of LA Woman. They both showcase his vocal style with a solid rock backing track. Neither song will disappoint; they are both "bangers" and should not be missed.

Here’s a few suggestions. Hollywood Director David Fincher directed Billy’s cover (on video) of The Doors, LA Woman. It’s slick. Should react to the whole “Whiplash Smile” album. Steve and Billy are still tearing it up live. There’s some great concert videos as well as plenty of audio recordings of their shows….. 👈✨

Back in the days when the video came out we all tried to immitate his facial expressions... and failed :D White Wedding is still my favourite but this and Eyes without a Face were great as well.
And guys, Rap was very much alive at that time and everywhere, even here in Switzerland with Breakdance competitions etc. A lot of people nowadays thing that Hiphop originated in the early 90s, it was around in the ghettoes in the 60s, during the New Wave phase in the late 70s, early 80s it became mainstream. Grandmaster Flash for example. The 80s were a colourful mix of rock, glam metal, post-punk, goth, disco, rap, synth-pop, prog, and soul. Billy Idol was Pop-Punk.

I thought I'd suggest another tune by a band you've reacted to before and seemed to enjoy their tunes. So, if interested give this one a listen. "Tedeschi Trucks Band - Nobody Knows You When You're Down and Out (Live at LOCKN'/2019" (by the channel: Tedeschi Trucks Band) --This song is a blues standard and written by pianist Jimmie Cox in 1923. It was originally performed in a "vaudeville-blues" style. The lyrics are told from the point of view of someone who was once wealthy during the "prohibition era." But Derek & The Dominos turned it into one of their big hits too. And as always, I enjoyed rocking with you. Thanks for sharing.

Guys, Alice Cooper also had a stage image of a bad guy, I would even say an evil character, but as Alice said, it's just his job, part of the show, in reality he is an ordinary person like all of us. If you watched Cooper's concerts, at the beginning they start out dark, and at the end they end up cheerful and bright.

Billy was definitely a badass in his day. Still is, though, you know, you slow down and prioritize later in life. But he most definitely walked the walk. Did some drugs, was always with or around nice looking women. Considered quite a lustful person. Got into a severe motorcycle accident around 89-90. Pretty wild dude. BUT, he was also always a nice guy. And always had the cool factor. Yeah, what you see in the vid is pretty authentic I'd say. Started in a punk band called Generation X that made some waves in the mid-70's through early 80's. They were a name. Dancing With Myself is one of their songs. It's a little more on the poppy side like some others of theirs, but still good. Ready Steady Go, Your Generation, Triumph, Kiss Me Deadly are good songs that represent that band well. Billy is good.

But his image was over commercialised that is why most punk/rockers found him fake. May I suggest you listen to "Dead can dance"or "Cocteau Twins" it was a very different branch of music in the 80s. Yeah in the 80s it was mostly rnb, pop, and hair band rock, unfortunately. Luckily i'm an Aussie and we had a plethora of great live hard rock bands down in Australia. It wasn't until the grunge era that i bothered with music outside of Australia, with the exception of all the great rock acts from the 60s and 70s of course, and heavy metal. Funnily enough, whilst i despised all that music from the 80s that i mentioned earlier, as an older man i now enjoy it because the music today is significantly worse than the stuff i wouldn't listen to back in the 80s.

Agreed, pop was a huge swath of music in the 80s. And Billy was in that swath. You guys are wrong on Idol, his persona everywhere was kind of a bad boy. Check out his interviews, where he was generally insolent and bored. It may have been an act, but it was consistent everywhere. And he was known to sleep with tons of girls and was heavily involved in drugs.

    The "video version" SUCKS! -FAIL!
The original album version is the only one that matters (and should ever be tolerated!)!
This album was pretty special, kind-of unique. Definitely. The band was killer
[Steve Stevens; Thommy Price; Steve Webster [formerly of: The Parachute Club (Canadian band)] & Sal Cuevas ...& Keith Forsey (doing drum programming. Forsey also Produced]]
(and this was one of the few albums that, both: pop, radio-friendly people and harder rockers & "attitude" bastards would, all, generally, like (not love, but LIKE!) ir be able to accept or appreciate (esp. on a dance floor).
And, yes: it is true: Billy Idol came off as inauthentic (he was....But, over time, seemed to "develop authenticity" to degrees🤷)!
