  • The plan for today was a boat trip to look for icebergs. But it didn't take long for this to morph into a completely different day. And isn't that just the beauty of travel! Join us on a road trip of discovery through Newfoundland. And if YOU are planning a trip in search of icebergs, this video will show you that the true experience isn't always what you imagined :D

I don’t pretend to be a travel expert, but I love what I do and would be honoured if you came along with me. My channel focusses on the wide-eyed wonder and excitement of finding somewhere new, and my genuine reaction to it. You may not get a history lesson in my videos, but who knows, you might pick up some useful travel tips along the way, add a few destinations to your bucket list and hopefully be entertained by what you see. Thanks for watching, it means a lot to me :)
I do ALL of this myself. Planning, filming, editing, promoting, all with a weekly upload schedule, so please understand not every video will be an epic adventure. But my pledge is to always do my best in any situation and KEEP THE CAMERA ROLLING :)

    FAQs:
    WHERE ARE YOU FROM?
I was born in Glasgow but have lived in Carnoustie, Dalgety Bay, Stonehaven, Edinburgh, Montrose, and further afield (Salamanca, Spain & Devonport, New Zealand)
    WHEN DO YOU UPLOAD?
Saturdays at 10am Scottish time. Occasionally a bonus midweek video will pop up (in which case, likely to be Tuesday at 5pm)
WHY IS THERE A DELAY BETWEEN TRIP AND VIDEO APPEARING?
This is both my business model and a result of doing everything myself. Editing takes time and I also like to schedule videos a bit in advance in case of any problems/illness/cancellations etc. Keeping my uploads appearing every Saturday is important to me, so I don’t want anything to get in the way of it. Also, I occasionally need some time off to recover from trips! But more than anything else, it's about budgets. I generally need to film a number of videos on each trip to break even. And each one of these take a while to fall into place on a Saturday morning.
    WHAT EQUIPMENT DO YOU USE?
I film with a GoPro11 and my iPhone12. I edit on iMovie and use epidemicsound.com for music. I also use canva.com for thumbnails etc. I also have a DJI Pocket 3 (bigger sensor) for nighttime, although I’m still getting to grips with it.
WHY DON'T YOU SPEND LONGER AT DESTINATIONS?
The usual suspects I'm afraid - time and money! Hotel prices especially these days make my eyes water like a true Scotsman. Also my weekly upload schedule means I need to keep on the move.
    WHERE'S ALICJA?
Alicja will feature whenever possible, but she has her own life and a proper job so it can take a while for our schedules to match up. Trust me though, I prefer it when She is there too!
DO YOU PAY FOR YOUR OWN TRAVEL?
Yes I do. I've only ever accepted a complementary ticket as compensation for a previous problem. All my opinions are frank and honest reflections of travel as I experience it.
    WHY THE ADS?
It's my income, I can't do this for free. Notice I don’t have mid-roll ads though!
    CAN I CONTACT YOU?
I used to list my email address but felt bad not having the capacity to respond to everything so took it down (and I got a LOT of spam so missed many genuine messages along the way).
HOW CAN I SUPPORT THE CHANNEL?
Watching my videos is of course support enough, but if you'd like to support further, I'll pop links in here for Paypal and Patreon. All kind donations are super-appreciated and will go 100% towards future filming trips.
    DO YOU ACCEPT SPONSORSHIPS?
I don't like to upset the flow of my videos, so I don't even include mid-roll ads anymore (at significant loss of income to myself), so I prefer not to include sponsorships either. I'm open to a small slide at the start/end of each video, but I don't want to get into talking about products, it's something I don't like as a viewer myself (especially as a viewer who pays for RUclips Premium). So it's probably a polite no, although all of this goes out the window if you offer me something which can give me the chance to make a video for my audience that would otherwise be impossible.

Definitely not the worst iceberg video or the worst video . The secret of your content is how authentic it feels . It's like you go on journeys and take us with you for better or worse and that is the secret of these videos . They are a retreat from toxic villagers and influencers . Your videos feel like a holiday whether your plans work the way you think or not !

My father was born in Heart's Delight and lived there until was he was 12. My grandparents moved the family to St. John's in the late 1950s, but kept the house in Heart's Delight as a summer residence. I spent many weekends there as a child. Your videos of my home province are fantastic.

Hearts Delight is such a beautiful name for a summer spot. I always thought Red Roses in Wales was the prettiest name for a village. In New Zealand we have Peep o Day … plus a whole lot of Maori place names that mean something very special.

No icebergs, but plenty of anticipation! Mother Nature can be so unpredictable, unfortunately. But you had a lovely drive through Dildo and the "Heart's Delight, Heart's Desire, and Heart's Content" trio! Unfortunately, you missed Shag Rock (yes, it's real!), located in Heart's Delight. And the little community of Spread Eagle, just across the tickle from Dildo. My goodness, we have a lot of suggestive place names in Trinity Bay! 😂😂😂
Glad you spotted the Tunnock's Caramel Log Bars, Snowballs and Tea Cakes. They're imported by British Confectionery Ltd. in St. John's and are hugely popular treats in Newfoundland! That surprises a lot of Scottish visitors!
Thanks for another lovely video. Cheers!

I worked in Mount Isa , Queensland, for ten years. We’d regularly drive down to Tweed Head, a distance of 1904 kilometres. Did it non stop, once, in just over 22 hrs. Got a bit tired after 1500 kilometres. Our nearest ‘shopping centre’ was Townsville, a mere 910 kilometres and a 10 hour drive! It was a laugh when we had visitors from overseas, all we got was ‘are we there yet? 😂😂😂😂

The postage jumpers in the previous video have a story to them:
When the NL government became insolvent in the 1930s and the British took direct control, they discontinued 2 colour (red and black, plus white). NL was allowed only one colour stamps (red and white or black and white). Newfoundland ers have not forgotten the insult.

An adult male moose can reach 7 feet tall and weight between 1,200 and 1,600 pounds. They are indeed formidable. If you are about to run into a moose as it darts across the highway in front of you, the custom is that you do not brake. Braking, which lowers the front of your car, will put your windshield into position to allow the moose to be thrown into your car through the windshield. So you step on the gas causing the moose to get tossed to the side, not inside your car. That's at least the way Mainers, USA, are told to deal with a moose on the road that cannot be avoided.
Loved the video. That's life, sometimes you find an iceberg, sometimes you just enjoy your road trip.

"There's a wee Moose loose in the hoose." As me wee feather used to say. He was from Wishaw too.

22;25 That moose statue looked like made of chocolate. A moose au chocolat?
"To Heart's delight via Dildo in the south!" Who'd have thunk that could be a route description? 🤣
No worries, me, I can't see how this might have been a non-fun video. I felt most entertained and enjoyed it! The Alicia&Steve-factor, I guess! 🤗
…and did you see how beaten up that poor old DC3 looked? Goodness, that poor bird must have had a hard life there! 🥺

That DC3 probably has endured many a snowstorm and blizzard. It's in excellent shape considering.

@@scottie2636 Not only that! The banged-up panels under the cockpit look like she was on her belly in some lose ground at some point to me.

Oh gosh! All that driving for icebergs! I'm with Alicja, just lose yourself in a lake of coffee! Lovely to see all those wooden houses and buildings.

Another interesting video. And love it when you include your wife, she’s a great navigator, and very funny .. and I love your searches for a good cup of coffee and a muffin. (And that moose statue IS life size)

Well, one wee one. The bonus was all the scenery and places you visited. Everywhere looked like my kind of place, especially those towards the end of the video (although I might draw the line at moving to Dildo!!!). Some of the place/landmark names suggest that the winters are long there. Cue Beavis and Butthead sniggering!

Funny thing is most of Newfoundland is further south than the UK, just shows what a difference the gulf stream makes

Here's a trip you might want to take in your winter , our summer ( Cape Town) . Several tour companies offer trips in their own aircraft to Antarctica. Some day trips in Lear Jet some overnight trips.
Might be worth looking into if you want to see big icebergs.
    I really enjoy your travels.
Ever thought of traveling to the Falkland Islands or the Island of st Helena in the South Atlantic
