I don’t pretend to be a travel expert, but I love what I do and would be honoured if you came along with me. My channel focusses on the wide-eyed wonder and excitement of finding somewhere new, and my genuine reaction to it. You may not get a history lesson in my videos, but who knows, you might pick up some useful travel tips along the way, add a few destinations to your bucket list and hopefully be entertained by what you see. Thanks for watching, it means a lot to me :)
I do ALL of this myself. Planning, filming, editing, promoting, all with a weekly upload schedule, so please understand not every video will be an epic adventure. But my pledge is to always do my best in any situation and KEEP THE CAMERA ROLLING :)

FAQs:
WHERE ARE YOU FROM?
I was born in Glasgow but have lived in Carnoustie, Dalgety Bay, Stonehaven, Edinburgh, Montrose, and further afield (Salamanca, Spain & Devonport, New Zealand)
WHEN DO YOU UPLOAD?
Saturdays at 10am Scottish time. Occasionally a bonus midweek video will pop up (in which case, likely to be Tuesday at 5pm)
WHY IS THERE A DELAY BETWEEN TRIP AND VIDEO APPEARING?
This is both my business model and a result of doing everything myself. Editing takes time and I also like to schedule videos a bit in advance in case of any problems/illness/cancellations etc. Keeping my uploads appearing every Saturday is important to me, so I don’t want anything to get in the way of it. Also, I occasionally need some time off to recover from trips! But more than anything else, it's about budgets. I generally need to film a number of videos on each trip to break even. And each one of these take a while to fall into place on a Saturday morning.
WHAT EQUIPMENT DO YOU USE?
I film with a GoPro11 and my iPhone12. I edit on iMovie and use epidemicsound.com for music. I also use canva.com for thumbnails etc. I also have a DJI Pocket 3 (bigger sensor) for nighttime, although I’m still getting to grips with it.
WHY DON'T YOU SPEND LONGER AT DESTINATIONS?
The usual suspects I'm afraid - time and money! Hotel prices especially these days make my eyes water like a true Scotsman. Also my weekly upload schedule means I need to keep on the move.
WHERE'S ALICJA?
Alicja will feature whenever possible, but she has her own life and a 9-5 job so it can take a while for our schedules to match up. Trust me though, I prefer it when She is there too!
DO YOU PAY FOR YOUR OWN TRAVEL?
Yes I do. I've only ever accepted a complementary ticket as compensation for a previous problem. All my opinions are frank and honest reflections of travel as I experience it.
WHY THE ADS?
It's my income, I can't do this for free. Notice I don’t have mid-roll ads though!
CAN I CONTACT YOU?
I used to list my email address but felt bad not having the capacity to respond to everything so took it down (and I got a LOT of spam so missed many genuine messages along the way).
HOW CAN I SUPPORT THE CHANNEL?
Watching my videos is of course support enough, but if you'd like to support further, I'll pop links in here for Paypal and Patreon. All kind donations are super-appreciated and will go 100% towards future filming trips.
DO YOU ACCEPT SPONSORSHIPS?
I don't like to upset the flow of my videos, so I don't even include mid-roll ads anymore (at significant loss of income to myself), so I prefer not to include sponsorships either. I'm open to a small slide at the start/end of each video, but I don't want to get into talking about products, it's something I don't like as a viewer myself (especially as a viewer who pays for RUclips Premium). So it's probably a polite no, although all of this goes out the window if you offer me something which can give me the chance to make a video for my audience that would otherwise be impossible.

Thank-you!! My dad served most of his National Service with the RAF at Edzell in the early 1950s. Aside from stories of drunken shenanigans on nights out in Montrose, he often spoke about a local walk along the river that you accessed through a door in a wall with a shaky bridge across the river. But he has no photographs, so thank-you for bringing his stories to life for me... It looks an incredible walk. Better still - I will show the video to my dad in the coming days. He has dementia. Your Montrose tour video got him talking when I shared that with him last year. I'm really hoping that he will engage as much with this one!! Oh... and Happy Birthday!!
You have made this whole video worthwhile with a single comment!
@@steve-marshthis is what it’s all about 🌈✝️🕊️😇😘🥰😍 x x x connecting x x x
Sebastian - please continue to do everything you can to keep your father engaged and involved as we did the same for my father who was a WW2 veteran. Thank him for his service from me from across The Pond.

@@steve-marsh ....happy birthday ste...jesus that water looks cold....sound video🥶
As always, thanks Steve. The water crossing segment. The age old saying comes to mind. " It's alright once you're in." Not always the case.😮
Happy Birthday Steve! U.S. Navy retiree stationed at Edzell 1974-77.
We lived in a flat in Kinnaird Castle Brechin then on Christies Lane in Montrose
before moving "onbase" to Perry road. BTW streets there are still
named after US Naval admirals, Forrestal, Halsey, Perry.
We had ONE RAF officer on base as "The Queen's landlord"
and a few hundred American sailors, spouses and kids.
When we arrived in Scotland we walked the cable bridge from
Panmure Arms Hotel Edzell to the base before we got a car.
Thanks for the tour and bringing back fond memories of Scotland
and the wonderful people of Scotland that made us yanks feel so welcome.
Happy Birthday young man! Today I took the time to read all the information you get if you click ...more. I have to say that I'm very impressed with your stand on advertising and sponsorship. It gives you even more credibility, which isn't always the case with RUclipsrs. Your commitment to a weekly post every Saturday gives us, the viewers, a degree of anticipation because we know it's going to be there, whatever else happens, around 10am every Saturday. Unlike many RUclipsrs, however, you haven't sacrificed quality for quantity and meeting a self imposed schedule. As you say, not every episode can be an intrepid adventure, but you've carved yourself a niche that works for you, and for us. Thank you and long may it continue.
Really appreciate this. Yeah, it's very easy to go for every penny you can get, but I prefer to keep the balance right and give the best viewing experience. Thank you
What a glorious piece of countryside and made all the better with the effervescent Alicja! How long has she been over here - her English is impeccable! Great birthday treat for us as well.
Oh well said! Here! Here! 👍🇮🇪🏴🙏🍻
Happy Birthday, a bit late😂 seems to nave been a great relaxing day in super Scotland.
@@steve-marsh- Steve, just an observation from an angler's viewpoint, look just past Ms. Alicja's right side @ 14:26 and I believe you'll observe a fish channel carved into the river left, as viewed when coming downstream. I believe it would be used by salmon or trout to re-access their spawning grounds upstream.
As for your earlier observation about the river's dark water, it indicated to me that the water was slower and deeper there, so my immediate thought if I had the fishing rights there, would be to run my lure or live bait through that area for lurking larger fish. This river walk, while not fast-paced, is to me a magical exploration for fishing possibilities and new experiences just around the corners for my camera to record. Thank you both very much for bringing me along as I truly loved today's adventure Mr. Birthday Boy. Congrats and many happy returns.
I realised that as a grown up the there are no rules regarding meals. If you fancy an ice cream before dinner you can. I decided this standing outside the best ice-cream shop in North Wales at Beddgelert. Did not spoil my dinner! 😂
I love this!
"Sorry folks, it's all gone a bit wrong hasn't it?"
Steve, that's why we're here mate.
You NEVER need to apologize - I think we all enjoy tagging along no matter what you find on your adventure! You two are such a joy to watch 😊 Happy Birthday!!! 🎉
Captivating video! Hi from the middle of the USA, St. Louis. I'm another Yank who was stationed at RAF Edzell. We explored the Blue Door and Shakin' Bridge often, and it was fabulous! I lived in Inchbare at Rose Cottage. Virtually all of us who were lucky enough to spend time in that area absolutely fell in love with Scotland. Thanks for sharing! Next time go to the Edzell Castle.
Happy Birthday 🎂. My eyes were drawn to the rocks . Once a geologist, always a geologist. Those red rocks - sandstones laid down between 408 and 393 million years ago. All tilted from their original horizontal position. And the swim ( once a swimmer , always a swimmer) . Ive been crocked for a year now. I mean practically housebound. Lovely therefore, to be taken to the two things I love the best. Thanks
Cheers Lynn! I should read up more on geology, fascinating stuff!
I had asked in my post what those rocks were. Thanks for the answer, Lynn! I took an intro to geology in college, to satisfy my science requirement. 👍🏼 So much to learn!
Montrose born and lived here all my life..I have done the Blue door walk many times, its one of my favourites..As a child I have lovely memories of picnics down by the river near the shakky brig, then took my old children and now my grandchildren. I love watching your videos as I see places I have known all my life through different eyes.
Greetings from Germany and a belated happy birthday, Steve!
Almost exactly 20 years ago, I moved to Scotland for a year to work as a foreign language assistant for Angus Council. I worked at Ferryden Primary and Montrose Academy among others. What a fantastic time that was. And one of my favourite places to visit was Glen Esk, all the way up to Loch Lee. Who knows, maybe our paths even crossed back then... Really enjoy your videos. Lots of travel inspiration for me! All the best to you!
JuSt love you two together.it’s such fun to watch you both
You two are a delight together!I hope you can stay joyful! Very real content.Love it!
What a lovely video you two ! Thank you for sharing your Birthday with us all Steve 🎉🎈
Happy late birthday Steve, keep up the great work mate.
Stunning scenery, great place for a lovely walk, and a bonus swim! Happy Birthday Steve, and Alitzia you're a star for shouting lunch 🤩
Happy to see that you enjoyed your birthday. Alicja seems to be a good guide on the rocky trails.
Happy belated birthday Steve. Thank you for taking us on another brilliant walk 👍
From Sweden to You: Happy Birthday Steve!💐🎂🎉🥳😀 👍👍👍👍
Happy Birthday!! Thank you so much for a jaunt through Edzell and a walk along the Blue Door trail. Brought back so many memories. I was stationed at the base there for 3.5 years and loved every minute of it.
I was also stationed at RAF Edzell from '75 - '79, we walked this trail often.
We went to Edzel back in the ‘90’s on The 4th of July to celebrate American Independence Day. The, then, US Naval Airbase in Edzel was open to the public and had lots or fun fair, stalls, military showcase stuff, lots of American cars as most of the airmen had brought their own cars over to Angus while they were based there. The main event was a full American Football game between the US Airforce and US Navy. You had to exchange your £ for $ at the entrance and reverse what you had left on way out. The Main Street was full of American cars for sale as they had already decided to close and pull out back to the US.
While it was an American base there was no British contingent based there.
Thank you for the comment. Very interesting !
Very interesting thanks for sharing.
That sounds absolutely fantastic!
There’s apparently a US Navy Edzell tartan, looks like it was the Intelligence branch that were based there.
We were stationed there when it closed. The hangers contained a gym, theater, and shopping complex. It was a communication base . Where you pulled up was the only entrance. You actually drove right by our old house on Halsey drive. They also had base housing in Brechin. The city leased a whole subdivision to the base. I can't believe how little its changed since we left in 1998. There's really not much to see on the base itself though. Thanks for including RAF Edzell in the video!
Belated Happy Birthday, Steve! Thanks for having us along. It looks like it was a fun day -- and the river scenes are beautiful. Many happy returns.
Age is just a number. Happy birthday. I’m 77 my wife is 61 and we both love going along on your adventures.
That "Blue door" ... what a magic place ! Thanks for those beautiful images.
Great to see two people, enjoying life together. Great vlog..... beautiful gorge. All the best 😎☯️🌱
I haven't been to Edzell but my father has been to the country house called the Burn nearby with postgraduate students plenty of times before. It would be nice to explore the area but it's relatively tricky to get there by public transport.
your videos are always a treat, especially because you show us where you go, which is the POINT of going. Some youtubers make fabulous trips but only show airport, lounges and inside of planes, with rarely a glimpse of destinations.
When Alicia is along that adds an extra dimension of joy a delight.
Brilliant video Steve.
That was a nice walk along the river, albeit it would not be good for me. Well done in getting across.
The fish and chips looked good.
Well done to you both.
Absolutely brilliant Steve and Alicia.
Wow what a fantastic place to visit and walk along the river.
I must get there someday to photograph it.
The fish and chips looked good.
Happy Birthday mate.
Atb Tim.
loved this vlog, reminded me of when i was a kid exploring the Wye valley woods and jumping in the river Wye, thanks guys, and Happy Birthday Steve,
A lovely Birthday video Steve - great stuff!
I must admit though, that I would have loved to see you fall in the river, just to see Alicja's reaction.
Happy belated birthday Steve from Australia 🎂 My hubby and I really enjoy Alija and your adventures 😊 Keep them coming please and have a great year 🎉❤
I've said it before (and it's still a compliment): Steve punching well above his weight with Alicja 😂 Happy birthday to Steve and best wishes to both of you
That’s what I was thinking, she’s amazing!
Happy Birthday Steve!
What a wonderful walk. Absolutely stunning gorge, Tower was a cool find too glad you found it!
Happy birthday Steve. Great video. Keep them coming 🎂🍦😊
I love this old ford dating back to approximately 1900s
A Steve Marsh episode turns into the Oregon Trail; crossing fords and seeking new adventures. Alicja would have made a great pioneer. 💫💫Happy Birthday, Steve. 🎂🥂 🍾
Happy Belated Birthday Steve! It looks like you had a wonderful day and all the best for the rest of the year! 🇨🇦 🏴
Happy belated birthday Steve, very well done to you both for a lovely walk and sharing it with us
A beautiful walk then fish and chips, what a way to spend a birthday.😊😊
Happy birthday and thanks for another great video. That water carved gorge might be the prettiest place I've seen on the channel so far. Watching you both swim and ford the river was a fun bonus.
happy belated birthday, steve. what your viewers admire about you is the fact that you are real. i find many youtube travel videos unwatchable because of the fake personalities, the edgy editing, the loud music and the special effects. you are down to earth and take delight in the simple pleasures of life.
That's so true!
What a magnificent spot. Scotland never disappoints!
Happy Birthday Steve . Lovely to see you exploring that area with Alicia . I nearly moved to Edzell about 20 years ago but circumstances prevented it . Best wishes
Happy Birthday, Steve. Greetings from Nova Scotia.
Interesting facts about the Angus area
🎉happy belated birthday Steve...you 2 are great....loved the walk , river, and tower. Thanks for sharing.
Happy Birthday Steve 🎉🎉. Love to watch you and Alicija so much fun. The village and walk was beautiful ❤️🤗
What a gorgeous walk! Loved every bit of it. I’ll admit there were tears in my eyes, it was so beautiful. And the ‘fox, chicken & grain’ river crossing looked awesome fun. Happy belated Birthday, Steve. Thanks for sharing it.
Great video. I really like when you explore around Angus because it reminds me of all my summer holidays as a kid visiting my grandparents and great Aunt in Brechin.
I thoroughly enjoyed watching your birthday adventure. I kind of did the same for my birthday this year (back in July) and ended up going to Ireland so I could walk The Gobbins. An incredible journey I took because I watched your video. Keep up the good work.
I spent much of my childhood picnics at the shaky bridge and did the same with my own children. In the early 80’s it was closed due to state of repair and the 45 commando group took it on themselves to restore it, which they did, restringing all the cables etc. I remember them working on it. We used to walk up the near side approx a mile to the road crossing bridge then walk back on the opposite bank and finish across the shaky bridge. I have never seen the water as low as seen on your video. Great memories Steve, thank you.
Superb! Cheers for sharing :)
A master of understatement - a 'damp' part of the walk, rather than saying you had to get soaked!
That river really changed over its course. Spectacular. Hats off to you both for fording the stream.
Can't stop smiling 😁 What a jolly trip and a perfect birthday 🎉 Many happy returns
Belated Happy Birthday Steve; It's amazing what you can find on your doorstep in Scotland, you only have to seek and you will find .
What a nice wee place and walk. If the foods good then I'm surprised it wasn't really busy. Maybe it's one of those hidden gems about to be discovered.
An awesome Angus video and happy birthday from a Scottish-born Viennese. The fishn'
chips are making my mouth water - yum-yum!❤ ❤ ❤ ❤ ❤ ❤ ❤
Happy birthday Steve! Thank you for bringing us along
Happy belated birthday, fish & chips, perfect birthday treat
Happy belated birthday Steve! Looked a fantastic day. Glad it's not just our walks that always seem to end up down an overgrown dead end path 😂👍
Thank you so much!!!
Hello You Two, what a beautiful place to visit on your birthday - and you also looked like you enjoyed your lunch. I really enjoyed your outing.
Happy Birthday Steve!! King for the day! What an awesome day you had 🎂🎈🎉🎁
Just found your channel and it brings back a lot of memories. I was a yank living in St. Cyrus in the early 90s. My landlord was the town doctor in Montrose and the cottage I lived in is apparently a vacation rental now. I have to go back and binge on your other videos now.
What a lovely place you found in today's video and you made the most of it. Love to you both 💕
When they re-open again, Edzell Castle and gardens are well worth a visit. Enjoyed seeing the two of you on your birthday walk. Thanks for sharing.
Brilliant video. Belated happy birthday. 🥳
That exposed river bed looks just the sort of place that dinosaur footprints could be eroded into existence. 🤯
Hello! Your channel appeared in my feed today and I have been on a bindge..... watching
Thank you for taking me around interesting places ❤
smokey joes chippy and snooker hall - great memories of school trips to Angus House!
I love Scotland and though I've been there once and could do only the touristy things your videos make me feel as if I'm going with you in all these remote corners of your beautiful country. Happy birthday Steve. Best wishes from Calcutta, India.
Happy birthday to you Steve🎈🎈🎈🎈🎈🎈🎈from Michigan 🎉USA. One of my favorite videos ❤. The swim across was awesome. Hi Alicja..I think we have the same tennis shoes❤
Thank you so much :)
Happy Birthday! Thank You for all of your adventures 😊
My brother lives in Edzell, just opposite the woods. The butcher makes the best black pudding, BTW.
Alicja is a blimmin star, I love her fearlessness. Belated happy birthday, Steve.
She never fails to impress me :)
Another year of adventure under your belt! Happy birthday, Steve! ☺️🎂 Thanks for sharing such beautiful scenery right in your backyard. Quick question - what manner of rocks are they that give the river its rust-colored hue?
The chippy was the icing on the cake! Well done both of you! 😁
Happy birthday Steve and may there be many more to come, thanks for another enjoyable video, stay safe and well, cheers from Oz.
Great video Steve, Happy Belated Birthday!!
Happy Birthday Steve & thank you both for a fabulous mooch, just beautiful !🎂

HAPPY BIRTHDAY STEVE THANK YOU BOTH FOR ANOTHER GREAT VIDEO.
Happy birthday Steve, have a wonderful day, you always make my Saturday mornings great,🎁🎉🍾🍷🎈🎂🖐🇺🇸
Happy Birthday Steve! Always love your and Alicja's videos. Here's to many more
Happy birthday Steve. What a beautiful village that is, typically Scottish buildings.
Belated Happy Birthday, Steve🎉
Really enjoyed this random video Steve........Thank you. Look forward to your next one.
Hey Alicja, the activity you are trying to describe in floating down a river is called tubing in the US, because you use tire inner tubes to float! Very pleasant on a sunny summer day with a beverage. Shallow rivers are fine for this if the rocks are smooth. 😁
Huge happy birthday... .there's nothing like a birthday dip!
I hope you had a wonderful Birthday. If you ever make it back to the States. Have a river float. Inner tubes and a slow river great summer day.
Happy Birthday! What a beautiful way to spend your birthday! A trail AND a wee swim followed by a delicious meal.
I grew up beside the River Ness. Spent a lot of time by the river as a teenager. We used to sit and watch the salmon jumping.
Happy birthday Steve! And what a wonderful gorge and river path. I was waiting for you to come across some Elves or at least some 'Hobbits on an adventure!"
Oh, you two & your adventures! Always surprising & always, most importantly, fun! During lockdown times, we found so many hidden places too, within a 2-3mile radius of our home, walking around & discovering places we didn't even know were there. Amazing what's right on your doorstep when you don't even know it. What an amazing place you found. Brilliant escapade...& fittingly finished off with a fish n chip supper! Fab. x J x
Lockdown certainly worked for that eh? :)
Happy birthday Steve! I hope the Damp ending was a happy ending!
One of your best--and that's saying something! Thank you.
Wishing you a happy birthday 🎂 and what a way to do it with a fish supper love it just love it 👏👏👏👍
Happy birthday Steve 🤗. You will both need to go back for a swim in the summer.... 🤔 oh wait a minute it is the summer 😂. Tfs.
Happy Birthday Steve. Love Alicja's bag it's awesome. Another awesome video
Happy 29th birthday Steve. Nice of you folks to clean the forest.
Happy Birthday, Steve! 🎉🎂🎈 Thanks so much for sharing it with us! Your walk was absolutely gorgeous!!
