I have lived in Northern Minnesota my whole life & have seen lots of black bear, timber wolves, and even moose while hiking or skiing. I agree with the gentlemen about the Boundary Waters Canoe Area: over a million acres & 1100 lakes. No roads. No motorboats. Thank you for showing that Minnesota is more than the Mall of America (which most of us avoid).
You don’t realize what you are actually doing for those of us who have mobility issues and find it difficult if not impossible to travel, thank you very much
I broke both my legs in 2016 in a free climbing fall. I can kinda grasp the feeling you are talking about. I'm blessed to still be mobile and abled, heck blessed to.still be alive. I'll never take it for granted again.
@@kingjellybean9795 Nor should you , so happy that you are ok , if I had my mobility back I know that I would surely live my live to the fullest I possibly could, I would recommend that you do the same don’t be fearful just because of what happened to you go out and live your life we only got one of these and we must make the most of it.
Thanks for visiting Minnesota and for showing our state in such a great light! Come back and visit anytime. The Boundary Waters Canoe Area is our greatest natural asset, but it takes time and preparation to visit its remote landscape so I can understand why it wasn't on your itinerary this time. Santé!
I am super sad that your trip to my beautiful state is over, but also super happy that you got to experience it. I really hope you come back and experience some more. I love, love, love your videos!!!!!
I’ve learned more about Minnesota, from you, than I have living here my whole life! lol! Thank you for showing what our beautiful state has to offer! Loved all of your videos! 😊
The wonder in your voice and expressions as you see the various sights and things you share is infectious. It is part of what makes your videos so fun.
Oh, I meant to add on a previous video: I LOVE that the ballcap keeps changing based on your destination! A very nice little touch that often goes neglected when producing. Well done.
Thank you so much for these local videos. Glad you liked our state and got to experience many new things. The reasons you said are the same reasons we love it here. The winters are very cold but can be very beautiful, even magical looking after a heavy snowfall.... and .... no mosquitoes! 😊 In metro areas the bugs are less because the cities spray to reduce the numbers, but out in the wilderness they can be bad. We wear bug spray as a fashion accessory 😅 . Hope you had a good flight back and looking forward to more videos in the future.
So glad you enjoyed Minnesota. It's an overlooked state sometimes, but one of the best states. The winters here can be brutal which makes me want to move, but I don't think I'll ever fully leave Minnesota. It has my heart and I'll probably always retain a home here and go back and forth from wherever I end up. Please come back soon, I'm sure plenty of people would be willing to host you!
Next time you visit Minnesota in the summer, reserve a couple days to venture into the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness. Pure magic. You were so close when in Ely and Grand Marais.
Thanks for visiting the "off the beaten path " destinations. So many come to the states and visit New York City Florida Disney World or Los Angeles Hollywood... There is so much more to see and explore. Enjoy your visit
Marie, you would be a great ambassador for European tourists coming to the U.S.A. You've probably seen more of it than most Americans! You are such a likeable person, glad to have you here.
Absolutely love the wolf exhibit. They are truly amazing animals. Loved the howling and chartering show you were able to witness. My family comes from Walker and St Cloud, MN. Growing we were warned about possible black bears in the area when picking wild berries. Never saw any though. Growing up around nature is the only way I believe we should all grow up. You learn to respect and understand the circle of life first hand.
The Minnesota series from Duluth (my hometown) and up along the north shore of Lake Superior made me so very happy. I am so glad you got to experience the nature that I grew up with and love. If you do return in winter, bring some very warm clothes!
Usually when we're up at our cabin in northern MN it's always the day you are leaving that has the best weather. A couple of weeks back we were driving our side x side next to a blackberry patch and suddenly 2 cubs and then the sow popped their heads up from the berry patch. It was pretty comical they had that guilty hand in the cookie jar look on their faces for a few seconds before they bolted for the nearby woods.
Glad you enjoyed your time in Minnesota and a bit of Wisconsin. We midwest northerners thrive in our little piece of nature's beauty. Continued best wishes for your future travels.
Quelle vacance incroyable. Quelle aventures incroyables. So much nature, history, food, joy, amazing planning. Merci tous les deux Daniel et Marie. Wishing all the best, cheers!
I'm new to your channel, and as a lifelong Minnesotan your this series has inspired me to check out places I've never been to in my own state. Merci beaucoup et bon voyage!
We're happy you're in love with Minnesota. Danny is right, Minnesota, in winter, can be magical. But be sure you get good warm boots, heavy gloves, and a thick coat, or leave extra room in your suitcase and get the stuff here. Especially if you go up north because we have temperatures that can get colder than Alaska sometimes. Ask Embarrass, Minnesota. 🤣
For 30 years my family ran a camp. We had a few resident black bears. They never bothered the campers. Just ate blueberries and blackberries and wrecked a dumpster.
@brealistic3542 yeah, they scared a few berry pickers but they were well fed and and shy so no issues. Just a confused bear munching and wondering what the hubbub is about.
My uncle worked at that bear center for many many years. I'm glad you visit to Minnesota included so much of the Northern part of the State! Northern Minnesota is my favorite place in the US of A.
Marie, that was an awesome video! The bears and wolves were the cherry on top. Absolutely beautiful. You being able to see that black bear up close and in the wild was great! I was so glad you didn't try to give it a bear hug, because it looks so cute,😊 Dan is the man! He did an excellent job 👏 planning out your trip. I'm so glad he was able to talk you into going there. What a great adventure that you took us on. Loved every bit of it.❤❤❤
Yes winter in Minnesota is fun with outdoor activities. Danny found some fun summer activities. Can he or some other Minnesotan pull off a winter adventure? There's dog sledding up around Ely if you like that. Snow shoeing in the woods and cross country skiing. Frozen waterfalls and ice climbing some of them. Lake Superior does not freeze over unless it's a really cold winter from the start. People actually surf Lake Superior in the winter when a big storm hits. I live in Duluth and it's normal to see open water during winter 😂
Every year in Plymouth, North Carolina they have a black bear festival. I live near Pikeville North Carolina. My late father has seen bear tracks around our house. On occasion I have seen deer in my yard
You are a brilliant ambassador for my home state of Minnesota! We have a cabin not far from Pattison State Park in WI too. Thanks for showcasing so many natural features of this wonderful area. I love your spirit of adventure. (Side note: I lived in Paris for a bit and attended university in Montpellier, France for a semester as well. You make me miss my French friends!)
Thank you so much for visiting Minnesota and sharing all these awesome places! I guess I am a bit biased since this is my state! Your friend and guide did a great job in choosing places for you to visit!
So glad you had fun in my beautiful state. When my son was in 5th grade,I volunteered to be the nurse for a week at Wolf Ridge which is also in Ely. It is a winter camp where they learn about wolves, and winter life for the natives. Snowshoe walking is so much fun. They brought a wolf over, and also an eagle. The kids learned how to tap a maple tree and make maple syrup. It was so much fun. Thanks for your wonderful comments.
You've seen more in Minnesota than a lot of native people have who live here. One event of note happens over Labor Day holiday each year, up in NW Minnesota area. Western Minnesota Steam Thresher's Reunion. Highly recommend spending 2 or 3 days on the grounds watching and partaking of all the exhibits. There's no 1800's era show anywhere in America like it. Also the changing of the autumn season tree colors is fantastic in MN, around late September to middle October.
I'm so glad you enjoyed your visit to our great state of Minnesota. I saw everyones favorite bear is shown in the Bear Museum, which, of course , is the lovable poo bear. And getting to be up close to my personal favorite animal 😊 so cool. We had a great time sharing your first-time experience here, and I hope to see you return someday soon. Marie, I love your channel, and particularly love your Minnesota episodes. You visit all my favorite places, and it's fun to revisit them through your eyes. At the Int'l Wolf Center, did they bring out a deer carcass for the wolves' evening meal? I really enjoy that. (I think it's roadkill - I believe that cops and\or state troopers bring them to the Center for the wolves' delectation. Yum, roadkill!)
Underrated, probably true. The northern one-third part is endless forests and endless number of lakes scattered in the forests. The central one-third is mixed prairie, forest and lake country. Very scenic to drive thru (for reference, see Fargo the movie at the cabin) . The southern one-third is open farmland like Iowa, but with scattered lakes. Every state has its unique human and natural attraction, although MN does have a special spell-binding attraction. It is truly underrated. Colorado has the mountains, but MN has the lakes and vast expanses of unending forests, moreso than say Colorado. So its a draw to be honest. Lived in both states, and it is a draw to me.
@@jbdel the culture in CO sucks, though. Born and raised in MN, lived in ND for 10 years, lived in CO for 4, then moved back to MN. The north has the hidden gem that is empathy for your neighbor. That small-town feel is standard throughout. In CO, not a single neighbor ever approached us without us first engaging. At work in CO, people didn't ask about your day/life/family mostly because no one cared to learn about each other. That's the real beauty of living up north here.
Aside from crime, Minnesota has a lot of sight viewing, I have been to a few down south, the hike is a pain but worth it, they have historical sight also, worth the visit
@aaronwetzel1981 I honestly don't care wtf happen on that day, it was a dumb protest. Edit: weather it's burn down or not, I do not care, I risk my life going to work during those time
Wow Marie, that was an amazing end to a spectacular series! I'm so glad you had fun here in Minnesota, thanks for sharing your experience! Come back soon!
Bonjour Marie, even though your last day in MN started off rainy, it looked like it turned out to be a beautiful day. Overall, the weather was good to you. Happy belated birthday to Mom. The bear and wolf centers were very interesting. Black bears rarely attack people. Once while camping with friends, a black bear invaded their campsite, but they only attacked a cooler with food in it. 16:26: It was nice of the bears at the bear center to call ahead and tell one of their friends to greet you on your drive back. 😁 I hope your trip back to France was a good one. I'm sure Minnesota will miss you. Come back soon sweetie.❤🌹
A couple friends and I went out into the Wisconsin woods at the end of a fire track (rough cut lanes for forest fire fighting trucks to use if needed) and a short hike and set camp. We ate before going out and were going to eat after we left the next morning, but we had beer with us. Bedtime I decided to sleep by the fire while the others used the tent. Later I woke up from being cold and was about to stoke the fire when I heard a bear outside of camp. Didn't come in but hung out a few minutes. In the morning we went out to scout deer sign for hunting in a few weeks. Came across the bear den. Bear was out so no worries but we decided to go scout a different location.
It's really just those few nasty weeks in January that sucks. A late Saturday morning in a sunny 15 degrees with no wind and a cup of coffee in your hand. It's more than doable. It's down right pleasurable.
While I’ve lived in Minnesota since the fall of 2000, I grew up in the wonderful state of Michigan, affectionately known as “The Great Lakes State.” For reference, Michigan has over 3200 miles of shoreline while Minnesota, a beautiful state in its own right, has 189. And another tidbit of information to put those stats in perspective: If one includes the shoreline around islands, Michigan’s shoreline is just about equal to the entire Atlantic Coast from Maine to Florida. With all of this said, there’s much to see and do in Michigan and I’m hoping you can visit it during your travels in the U.S. Thank you again for sharing your experiences both large and small while in Minnesota and, to a lesser degree, the great state of Wisconsin.
Marie, when you next come to Minnesota visit Hibbing to see the iron ore mines, Itasca State Park to see the source of the Mississippi river, and Pipestone MN to see where the Native Americans quarried pipestone, out of which they made their ceremonial pipes. Pipestone was traded all over North America by various Native American tribes and was in great demand.
To add to this when doing the Headwaters of the Mississippi River you can do the Lost 40 trail, it's not too far away and it's a short hike threw 40 acres of woods that's never been cut
Ms. Marie, that was so cool. I had no idea such exhibits existed in that area. I look forward to visiting this area and seeing it for myself. Thank you again for sharing your amazing adventures. Be safe and as always, have fun.🤠
I've really enjoyed your videos from Minnesota. You really hit alot of high points. From Juicy Lucy's to Mount Josephine that's really, really getting the Minnesota experience.
Such an amazing journey! I'm so happy that you got to see and do sooo much in Minnesota. I'll be excitedly awaiting season two! 😁Too bad you didn't hear anything at all about the Edmund Fitzgerald. 🤣
I have an old mini-VHS tape of a bear raiding someone’s campsite at Sawbill Lake in the Boundary Waters. The people thought they did such a good job of protecting their food by putting it in a locked cooler, under a picnic table, and stacking firewood around it. AHAHAHAHA!
Lol miss Marie I use to live in an area near a mountain. Sometimes the bears would come down looking for food. I lived in the area for about 13 years. In that time I saw a bear close up once. It was huge. That was enough for me lol a good friend of mine lied in the same area. One time he opened his front door to go to work and a bear was right outside his door between him and his car. My friend was not afraid and waited for the bear to slowly walk away into the woods.
Excellent conclusion and recap of your Minnesota trip. And of course, it had to rain on your last day! Loved the bears and the wolves. Such beautiful, majestic creatures! Looking forward to your next video in Boston. Cheers! 🍻🐻🐺✈️🌎🇺🇸
I probably already told you this. When I was a kid we would go on vacation in northern Wisconsin. For fun, we would go to the local garbage dump at night to see the black bears. Such fun! I actually traveled with two timber wolves doing educational lectures back in the day. Magnificent creatures. When I was backpacking in the U.P. of Michigan a bear got into my backpack. Totally my fault. All he stole was my peanut butter. I was very lucky. There are occasional bear sightings here in Illinois. We went on a canoe trip in Quetico Provincial Park in Canada in Ontario north of Minnesota. We saw wolf tracks but didn’t see any wolves. Saw lots of moose. I’m so very happy that you had the opportunity to experience this. Minnesota is beautiful.
Years ago, my wife and I were headed to Temperance River to camp in September and were encountered a pack of wolves crossing the highway just north of Taconite Harbor. We asked the rangers if they were transplanted there, and they told us that they had shown up, probably traveling from Canada.
it's been super fun following along! You did SO MUCH in 10 days. Incredible honestly. Danny is a trooper for driving so much. What a friend. I look forward to seeing your furute trips.
Love your videos. Would be nice to hear some comparisons between places you visit in the U.S. and other parts of the world that you have visited (included your home country) as well as places you visit in the future. I used to travel quite a lot, but my body can't handle it so much anymore (mostly traveling by roadway with only a bit of flying and one cruise). Now my adventures are more limited to those shared by others like you. Not a huge fan of the common big tourist attractions. I much prefer these adventures like you shared here in Minnesota and Wisconsin (my home states - where I was born and raised before re-locating to North Carolina in the mid-1990s). Hope you enjoy the rest of your time in the States! 😊
Very cool places that you have visited!! I had a friend (rip) that raised hybrid wolf dogs. I was lucky enough to meet one in person. It was huge...intimidating at first, but very friendly.
What a great video Marie. Seeing a bear in the wild after seeing the bears and the wolves in captivity. Your videos are fantastic. Can't wait for the next one.
Hearing the wolves made me smile! When I lived up there, I used to track the different wolf packs, with data from the Wolf Center, and then try to camp near them so I could hear them howl at night. I also used to have a dog that was half wolf, and he used to sing along when I practiced trumpet. The wolf's howl, and the loon's call are the two sounds I miss most from Minnesota. You're making me homesick, now I'm going to have to make a trip back home.
Great videos. But you missed St Paul, the Red Wing area and the brainerd lakes area. You did hit up the north shore, but you only saw one of the top 4 places in Minnesota
I grew up in the Northeast Metro. A couple times we had bears in our yard. Our dogs' barking was enough to get them to mosey off. Black bears don't like noise, and won't fight if they don't have to. Doesn't mean you should give one a hug - it's still a bear. But they avoid confrontation, which is probably why there are more of them than there are of all other species of bear combined.
Ive lived in MN my entire life and your videos have given some great ideas to travel right in my own backyard. Thank you for sharing your adventures and I hope you are able to come back soon. If you do, another cool experience is staying in a cabin on one of our many lakes. Its cool to hear the loons calling to eachother in the morning and the beautiful sunsets in the evening, as well as cruising around in a boat or pontoon. Thanks again for the great videos!
I have a big red button that says, "That's Easy". Howling would be cool too. Northern Minnesota to Boston? That's like orange juice after brushing your teeth.
I enjoy your enthusiasm about the places you go. So cool to see the bears. I think they are amazing at how strong, yet agile they are. Always have to respect the wild animals. I love wolves and think they are majestic.
If it's possible for you. You have got to visit New Hampshire and Vermont in the fall. The different colors of the trees are beautiful. The apple cider and cider dough nuts are delicious. The small town charm is like being a movie.

I hope your trip back to France was a good one. I'm sure Minnesota will miss you. Come back soon sweetie.❤🌹
Ely is my favorite place here in Minnesota! So cool that you could come see it!! :)
Thanks for visiting us. We do mostly love it here. Except winter. Hate winter 😒
It's really just those few nasty weeks in January that sucks. A late Saturday morning in a sunny 15 degrees with no wind and a cup of coffee in your hand. It's more than doable. It's down right pleasurable.
Thx for visiting. Hopefully we’ll see you again soon. Safe travels!
Danny did a great job! The only thing I didn't see in the videos that any visit to Minnesota and Wisconsin should include was cheese curds.
🥹😂
Cheers! 🍻🐻🐺✈️🌎🇺🇸
The sculpture of the wolf pack seemed pretty cool! 🇺🇸🇫🇷🐺🧸🌳🦌
Marie great job showing Minnesota wilderness
Thanks Marie, videos are fantastic, you take care
Ça fait la première fois qu'elle a vue un ours en nature!
I remember meeting Cree at the Wolf Center. Have a safe trip. Thank you for sharing.
Great videos. But you missed St Paul, the Red Wing area and the brainerd lakes area. You did hit up the north shore, but you only saw one of the top 4 places in Minnesota
that was awesome Marie! thank you
I grew up in the Northeast Metro.
Very cool last day.
If you make it back to Minnesota, I recommend checking out the Brainerd Lakes area. It's where Minnesotans go to play!
Snowmobiling!
I wanna do that!
I have a big red button that says, "That's Easy". Howling would be cool too.
Northern Minnesota to Boston? That's like orange juice after brushing your teeth.
Come to Pennsylvania we have many historical sites and towns and so many beautiful natural spots
I enjoy your enthusiasm about the places you go. So cool to see the bears. I think they are amazing at how strong, yet agile they are. Always have to respect the wild animals. I love wolves and think they are majestic.
How many people watching this video started to howl when they heard the wolves.
Your journeys fill me with envy. Bon Nuit lointain ami!
Wonderful and I love the new pink wolf cap.
If it's possible for you. You have got to visit New Hampshire and Vermont in the fall. The different colors of the trees are beautiful. The apple cider and cider dough nuts are delicious. The small town charm is like being a movie.
Happy birthday mom!
