Who's that cute guy in the back of your kayak? Is this the guy whose French accent we hear every so often as you travel from state to state? (I have to tease you) Did you eat all six scoops of ice cream? Nice video! I live in Wisconsin. It's so pretty up there. I'm in the middle of the state. Looks like you had so much fun. Thank you Marie!
Haha. That's Daniel, my friend who hosted me for those 10 days in Minnesota. I’m the only French on this channel…not sure about the accent you heard as I travel with different people 🙂 Nah I couldn't! We shared those ice cream 🍨 Love Creamery is a great place!
You are my favorite RUclips traveler that has ever been in the US. Love your appreciation of our culture as well as letting us know what things are native to France (language or otherwise). I was born in Duluth and now live with my wife in St. Paul. We love watching your adventures! Hope you continue to enjoy your trip!

I've spent my life in Minnesota, and I can't tell you how much I appreciate the time you took to explore and show what the state has to offer, and that it's more than just the freezing tundra that everyone jokes about.
I know what you mean. I drove to Marquette MI a while back from Duluth and spent many many hours behind the wheel. When I got to Marquette I was awestruck that this was the same lake they have in Duluth, and even more so by the fact I was only about half way to the end!
I’m really impressed with just how much you manage to fit into a single day. I think I’ve done less stuff on some entire vacations than you do in a day or two.
I am so happy that your time in Minnesota wasn't just spent in the south around Minneapolis. Because I grew up in Duluth, I always feel like the true spirit of Minnesota is not in big cities like Minneapolis, but rather in cities up north like Duluth, and the beautiful areas of the north shore of Lake Superior. Your videos of the north make me so happy!
Miss Marie, you seemed very comfortable visiting places, Minnesotans, and animals in Our State.❤ Thanks for doing this and reminding us Locals we have much more to explore and visit here.
Such gorgeous footage, Marie! Had me ducking while you were kayaking under those sandstone arches, lol. Another great video showcasing the "hidden" gems that most of us will never get to see.
I live in Minneapolis and have a cabin in Cornucopia - small world. You might've kayaked right by it along the sandstone! Glad you got to see and enjoy that. I went to Michigan Tech. University, so I am quite familiar with Lake Superior. We use to vacation up there in the farthest northernmost Upper Peninsula every year on vacation. The brown in the water is just Tannin, from the trees. They have the coolest falls. The thing we liked about it was it was so open, unpopulated, unregulated, air was fresh, water was good, and just nice to get away from the big cities, and the over complications of life, which really we don’t need. I’m happy you got exposure and indulged in that. Come up again to Michigan for some winter fun on snow mobiles, dog sleds, and cross country skiing - plus food and DRINK! Thank you for bothering with little 'ol us/heaven!
Marie, thank you so much from me, who grew up in Duluth and now have returned to what I consider my "homeland." I've really enjoyed your multiple comments, observations, appreciations, and respect you gave to both the North and South Shores of Lake Superior. Thank you! :)
As I have previously told you the French were the first Europeans in Minnesota & in Wisconsin. As late as the 1830’s I have seen Wisconsin written as “Ouiscansan”. When les voyageurs ask the First Nation people what they called the lands they wrote it down what they heard in French ears. The Native people had more vowel & consonant sounds than French. When English took over New France in 1763 the changed the French sounding words to English sounding words. Still many locations & town retain French names~city of Fond du Lac.
Your videos of your explorations are greatly appreciated and extremely entertaining. Your journey to Big Manitou Falls in Wisconsin's Pattison State Park was beautifully filmed and showed the beauty of this majestic waterfall whose thundering roar was thought to be the mighty voice of the great Manitou Spirit according to the local Native American tribes. I live less than two miles from Pattison Park and a very, very long time ago (I'm 75) as a young teenager, before climbing there was prohibited, I used to climb down the black basalt walls of the steep gorge to the very base of the mighty falls. Feeling its swirling cool mists blowing on my skin and feeling the deep powerful vibrations of the tons of falling water right before me were unforgettable experiences. Unfortunately, today such an off-limits view from the bottom of the falls is all but impossible. However, there are excellent overhanging observation platforms on the North and South sides of the waterfall's deep gorge that give great views of Manitou Falls, the fourth highest waterfall east of the Mississippi. Cheers!
My dad was a Park Ranger at Apostle Islands and I grew up just a little bit farther down the shoreline at Little Sand Bay (1981-1991). My dad would patrol the Meyers beach area year round and sometimes take me with.
Marie, I am currently living in Northwest Montana, but after watching your videos, I am strongly considering moving to the Grand Marais area of Minnesota. Of course, the entire area around Lake Superior is enticing, indeed, magnificent. I have never visited there as an American, and I am intrigued by its natural beauty. Thank you. Merci beaucoup. Je suis reconnaissante
It's such a quaint town. Very arty. They have street art booths in the summer. It's in the middle of nowhere so if you like remote living you'd love it. Beware, spring comes late and it's much cooler in the summer than the cities. The lake modulates the temp in the winter so it's not too bad
I had the privilege of seeing the cave system you explored when it was frozen. They are only accessible when the correct weather conditions are present. I'm looking forward to your Wisconsin and Upper Michigan videos if you have them.
Bonjour Marie, where do you get your energy? I get tired just watching you 😊 You did so well kayaking. The rock formations were really something As always, I really enjoyed the waterfalls. They're one of my favorite things in nature. 🇨🇵🇺🇲 ♥️🌹
Ah, Wisconsin….my home State. You are in the Northwest part of the State where as I live in the Southeast part of the State. I have been in that area a few times. Not very far from where you kayaked there is the Apostle Islands…very beautiful. Very similar lake geography. You had such a lovely time. I am glad you had such an adventure!
My grandfather was in the Civilian Conservation Corps during The Great Depression. Ultimately he ended up in the US army during the Normandy Campaign. You have shown more US history in your videos than you even know. Thank You!
"Superior never gives up her dead" means the water never gets warm enough for bodies to decay. A couple of feet down water temp is 34°F/2°C even in summer.
Wow Marie, what a cool kayak excursion. Those sandstone formations were really interesting to see, and all those cool little tunnels to play around in also. But the Crevasse was kinda spooky. Spectacular footage so far and it is sad there is only one more to go, but like they say....close one door and another will open. ❤ from fla usa
I have such good memories of kayaking that place with perfectly calm waters as a kid. You could see deep down into the water near the first set of cliffs and see giant boulders below your boat. A very eerie feeling, but still fascinating to see.
I love your videos. They're beautiful and entertaining, and unique, in that you don't just go to the big glittery sights. You really see the beauty of all of America with its vast differences.
So happy you got to explore the North Shore! The history behind the voyager journey is amazing. My fiance asked me to marry him at Pattison State Park 🥰
@@kingjellybean9795 😂 You can explore death valley in-place and know what the rest of it has to offer. Set your kayak on sand, sit down then look around…..All the rest of it is the same….. So you CAN Explore it from a kayak afterall…if you’re lucky it might rain and you skid your kayak back to the car. It’s a nice seat in the desert
Lake Superior is the largest Lake for surface area, while Lake Baikal (far-east Russia) is the largest Lake for volume of water. :) I love Lake Superior.
Love your videos! I'm in Wisconsin and we have a lot to offer here in our beautiful state! In case you are wondering about the brown water, it was easiest to get info from google: the amber-brown color of the water comes from tannins. Tannins are the bitter and astringent compounds that come from the wood, bark, and leaves of oak and fruit trees in the area. Just an fyi!
Had you gotten any farther south from Pattison State Park you would have truly stumbled into my back yard so to speak. Glad you got to discover so much and enjoy it.
You took us on an amazing adventure!!🤩 What a complete day you had. You showed us alot of really cool and beautiful stuff. Your kayaking guide was the best. 👍 He loves his job and it shows. I love all the geography that was explained🤓 and the conversations he had with you. You were at your best making this video. ❤️👌 The wild turkey was a sight to see. a squirrel having his lunch, was very funny.😄 The 1000 ft ship that you seen 1 hour offshore, is always an amazing sight to see. In this time the ship came in at dusk, which was cool to see. 😲 The world's smallest waterfall what is cute. It's those little details that you show that help make the video very enjoyable. 😀 Most of all, it is you having the time of your life, that makes your exploration videos most enjoyable for us. 💪👌❤️🇨🇵🇺🇸👋😃 P.S. your videos always seem to have a way of making me crave some kind of food. This time I must now go find myself a delicious Reuben sandwich. 🥲❤️
So many waterfalls! I bet that is all you heard in your ears as you went to sleep at night. Another fantastic video! Looking forward to your last day in Minnesota on Wednesday, and thus the conclusion of another exciting chapter. Cheers! 🍻🌞🌊✈️🌎🇺🇸
The Apostle Island kayak our is really nice. Great hikes in State Parks. I noticed a CCC sign (Civilian Conservation Corps) which was a program during the Great Depression (1930s) that employed young men to remodel and build trails, bridges and structures in State and National Parks. They also planted millions of trees. Most of the improvements and roads were widened and paved by the CCC. Wonderful video Marie. Most visitors do not see what you have seen. They bypass 'the Flyover' which is a shame. 🙂🙃😄❣
You're a brave girl, Mustang Sally. When we lived in the Florida panhandle, we were amazed that those crazy Europeans went swimming in the Gulf in winter. I cyphered that the water temperature was about the same as the Baltic and North Sea in summer and was okay. But I wasn't about to indulge. Still, that's 10° warmer than Lake Superior. I know there are Polar Bear Clubs that take winter plunges, bless their hearts. Keep adventuring while you can, Marie. Luv ya
Glad you had a fun early summer on the shores of Lake Superior. That lake makes the weather different daily and hourly. You definitely had gorgeous weather on your days. For those thinking of visiting - it’s also quite beautiful with fall colors and (if you are brave) the winter - with Ice piling up on the shore.
IKR!?! Right now there is a 35 knot gale warning in effect until later tonight. I wouldn't want her near the cliffs in this. 🫣 Definitely on my top five favorite places I've been or ever wanted to go. Any time of the year. 🥰
@@ivechang6720 Yeah - way to windy right now. Also some years it freezes over enough you can walk out on the mainland on an "Ice Caves Tour".... www.nps.gov/apis/mainland-caves-winter.htm
I like watching your exploring videos. Very familiar with the areas you are visiting. Loved seeing the sea caves again. Some winters the ice is thick enough for people to walk out to those caves and all through them. Very cool to see the ice formations and crawl and slide through the openings. Looking forward to seeing more of your trip around the lake.
I grew up in the Midwest so OF COURSE I find this sooooo cool! Thanks for documenting. This was a pleasant diversion that reminds me how beautiful the Midwest can really be.
Probably not the comment you’d be expecting but.. you look absolutely stunning with your hair down. 😊 I can only remember you having it up in a ponytail with a cap on your adventures
All the places you see in the summer are so different in the winter. I've been to all 50 states and hope you can explore some in the winter.. Enjoy your trip
Sometimes during winter, the entire lake freezes over, and people walk out to the sea caves of the Apostle Islands. Come back in winter sometime when you feel up to a different adventure!
If you make it to The Apostle Islands the ferry will take you to the town of LaPointe (my wife's maiden name). She's the (I don't know how many times great) grand daughter of Joseph LaPointe, one of the original fur traders of the area, early 1800's. Also if you continue along the shore of Lake Superior into the Upper Peninsula of Michigan check out Fort Wilkins or the coast guard station at Whitefish Point. Hope you plan to make your way through Wisconsin headed south. Either along Lake Michigan or The Mississippi River.
As you have noted Lake Superior is the largest freshwater Lake in the World. The other lakes in the Great Lake system are also sizeable. In the early 1980’s the US State governors & the Canadian Provincial Governors signed a joint pact to never export Great Lake anywhere else. Any diversion of Great Lake water has to be approved by a governmental body made up of the US States & Canadian Provinces.
Marie every one of your videos is an absolute work of art. You do such a great job of showing the best of the USA wherever you are. Our government should hire you to do PR for us in France. Thank you for an absolute gem of a video. Rich and Mila in Seattle. ♥
If you want to get close to a rabbit, don't look directly at it or walk directly towards it. Walk at an angle that gets you closer and they may think you don't see them. This works well in the forest and somewhat in the open.
Beautiful places. I haven't been to Minnesota or Wisconsin, but have been to the Upper Peninsula of Michigan and the terrain and water color is the same. I love it up there. Thanks for the kayak journey. It was lovely. I've hiked up there several times and it reminds me of it. Thanks again.
I am a new subscriber. I have greatly enjoyed watching & listening to you about not only my home state but also my father’s - Wisconsin. I am so very happy that you got to see the North Shore of Lake Superior in all its beauty. If you ever decide to come back to this area, I would come when the trees are changing colors - we have beautiful fall (autumn) colors.
Haha, you drove right past my workplace in Superior, Wisconsin on your way back to Duluth from Pattison State Park. You didn't film it and not that you missed much 😂 It's a small modern bottling plant in a 110 year old dairy building with an old water tower that still has Twin Ports Dairy painted on it. It's days as a creamery ended more than 40 years ago. I live in far western Duluth in a neighborhood called Gary-New Duluth. Enjoying your videos of the Norhtland 😊👍

After spending all this time visiting Lake Superior, I'm sure you heard the Gordon Lightfoot song.
When GL died last year, they rang the bell 30 times, 29 for each man on the Edmund Fitzgerald, and once for GL.
I thought that was beautiful.
The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald
Gordon Lightfoot
The legend lives on from the Chippewa on down
Of the big lake they call Gitche Gumee
The lake, it is said, never gives up her dead
When the skies of November turn gloomy
With a load of iron ore twenty-six thousand tons more
Than the Edmund Fitzgerald weighed empty
That good ship and true was a bone to be chewed
When the gales of November came early
The ship was the pride of the American side
Coming back from some mill in Wisconsin
As the big freighters go, it was bigger than most
With a crew and good captain well seasoned
Concluding some terms with a couple of steel firms
When they left fully loaded for Cleveland
And later that night when the ship's bell rang
Could it be the north wind they'd been feelin'?
The wind in the wires made a tattle-tale sound
And a wave broke over the railing
And every man knew, as the captain did too
T'was the witch of November come stealin'
The dawn came late and the breakfast had to wait
When the gales of November came slashin'
When afternoon came it was freezin' rain
In the face of a hurricane west wind
When suppertime came, the old cook came on deck sayin'
"Fellas, it's too rough to feed ya"
At 7 PM, a main hatchway caved in, he said
"Fellas, it's been good to know ya"
The captain wired in he had water comin' in
And the good ship and crew was in peril
And later that night when his lights went outta sight
Came the wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald
Does any one know where the love of God goes
When the waves turn the minutes to hours?
The searchers all say they'd have made Whitefish Bay
If they'd put fifteen more miles behind her
They might have split up or they might have capsized
They may have broke deep and took water
And all that remains is the faces and the names
Of the wives and the sons and the daughters
Lake Huron rolls, Superior sings
In the rooms of her ice-water mansion
Old Michigan steams like a young man's dreams
The islands and bays are for sportsmen
And farther below Lake Ontario
Takes in what Lake Erie can send her
And the iron boats go as the mariners all know
With the gales of November remembered
In a musty old hall in Detroit they prayed
In the maritime sailors' cathedral
The church bell chimed 'til it rang twenty-nine times
For each man on the Edmund Fitzgerald
The legend lives on from the Chippewa on down
Of the big lake they call Gitche Gumee
Superior, they said, never gives up her dead
When the gales of November come early
I shed a few tears when they rang 30 times.
I concur. The best RUclips reactor to travels in the US. She's great 😊

Cheers!
It's the 4th highest east of the Rockies actually.
@@pillarwatch That too!
"Hey" ! Very nice video. The scenery was fantastic and it looks like a had a great time.
Have fun and be safe. :)
I have been to Gooseberry Falls many times and it is my favorite place to go cross country skiing in the winter.
Once again a wonderful video about nature and adventure..Thank you.🤩🤩🤩
My dad was a Park Ranger at Apostle Islands and I grew up just a little bit farther down the shoreline at Little Sand Bay (1981-1991).
What a cool adventure!
I had the privilege of seeing the cave system you explored when it was frozen. They are only accessible when the correct weather conditions are present.
I'm looking forward to your Wisconsin and Upper Michigan videos if you have them.
Bonjour Marie, where do you get your energy? I get tired just watching you 😊
You did so well kayaking. The rock formations were really something
As always, I really enjoyed the waterfalls. They're one of my favorite things in nature.
🇨🇵🇺🇲 ♥️🌹
Marie, I'm so glad that you're enjoying my state of Minnesota. The north shore area has always been my very favorite place.
Wisconsinite here too! Lakeshore area around Manitowoc. Love it here! Wouldn't want to live anywhere else!
My grandfather was in the Civilian Conservation Corps during The Great Depression. Ultimately he ended up in the US army during the Normandy Campaign. You have shown more US history in your videos than you even know. Thank You!
A great video, Marie!
Have a great Labor Day weekend and great Labor Day Marie!
Merci beaucoup Marie for your Saturday and Wednesday vlogs!
This was a fun set of videos. Thank you for coming to Minnesota
"Superior never gives up her dead" means the water never gets warm enough for bodies to decay.
A couple of feet down water temp is 34°F/2°C even in summer.
I was waiting to see if someone would say this.
Can't get enough of your videos lately. Looked like another great day on Lake Superior. Looking forward to the next one! Thanks Marie.
Kayaks are the best way to explore nature
That's what I always heard, took mine to death valley... what a waste of time
@@kingjellybean9795 😂 You can explore death valley in-place and know what the rest of it has to offer.
@@milemarker301 true! I was trying to remember that fact as well
Yup, baikal is deeper but not as wide.
I reflexively ducked my head down as you kayaked into the cave! 😁
This was a Great Video Marie!! C'est Bon!!
Marie seeing firsthand why the French wanted to colonize the land too. Not sure I've ever seen you so happy.
Much of it is from Tamarack and pine needles falling into the upper reaches too, like tea bags do to water.
Had you gotten any farther south from Pattison State Park you would have truly stumbled into my back yard so to speak. Glad you got to discover so much and enjoy it.
That GoPro view reminds me of how long it's been since I was in a kayak. This is my favorite of your videos because of your joy and wonder.
Glad to you got to see some of my beautiful state of Wisconsin!
America is so amazing
P.S. your videos always seem to have a way of making me crave some kind of food. This time I must now go find myself a delicious Reuben sandwich. 🥲❤️
I'm always amazing at how much nature the USA has to visit
I could see people moving to that area to get to that place under the rocks! That's a unique place!
Marie, your videos always bring me joy. May you receive the same joy as well.
In the winter you can walk through the caves when the lake is frozen. 🥶
The hat cam worked great 👍 I love kayaking I'll have to check this out some day
Your video was so enjoyable! Thanks for sharing!
Duluth, MN looks amazing.
Thanks for the video. You do show so much to do .
Awesome kayaking adventure!! Glad you are having a great time. Keep enjoying your exploring!!!!👍...2 Billion? So close! :0) 🐺
Cornucopia Wisconsin is a beautiful place. Those caves in winter are full of icicles. A winter attraction. I have camped at that waterfall overnight.
12:37 good to see the turkeys in wisconsin are just as indifferent as the ones in minnesota
Absolutely loving your videos Marie! Keep em coming!!
Probably not the comment you’d be expecting but.. you look absolutely stunning with your hair down. 😊 I can only remember you having it up in a ponytail with a cap on your adventures
Cornucopia and Two Harbors in one day is covering a lot of ground. Well done!
All the places you see in the summer are so different in the winter. I've been to all 50 states and hope you can explore some in the winter.. Enjoy your trip
thank you for this AMAZING video! 👍☺
Glad you made it to Apostle Islands. I was hoping you would end up going through when I heard you went to the Minnesota/Wisconsin area. Awesome!
Open Sea kayaking is a amazing! When you get to walk the caves when it freezes(which is rare) is amazing!
Welcome to Minnesota, I was born, raised, and have lived here all my life. I hope you get the chance to visit the rest of our beautiful state.
We Kayak on the West Coast all year long, cold, seals, Orca's, boats, and weather does not stop us.
I truly hope you enjoyed my beautiful State of Wisconsin.
Let’s get that title right Manitou Falls. Enjoyed the Cornucopia, WI and Apostle Island tour.
That kayak adventure was so cool. Beautiful place. Love this video. You are the greatest.
I hope you hit Porcupine Mountains in the Upper Pennisula of Michigan! Lake of the Clouds and the whole Park is GORGEOUS!!
I didn't this time! Writing it down for my next explorations though 😁
Amazing! I am sooo jealous. BTW, your hair is gorgeous! I love everything about this video.
Being a Minnesotan since 1978, aged 10, I thank you for these videos. So fun to travel with you! 😊
Loving the vids. Always neat to see where you go to.
What a great idea for mounting your camera to your forehead for filming. Outstanding! Loved being able to see what you could see with your hands free.
